Lucius Fox

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Lucius Fox with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Batman

Lucius Fox is a known secondary protagonist in the Batman series whom made his debut appearance in the comics in Batman #307 in January of 1979. Lucius is primarily known as the CEO of Wayne Enterprises whom is not only aids Bruce Wayne in his business and private finances but also aids Batman in the technology he uses to fight crime (in which Lucius is generally aware of the fact that Bruce Wayne is Batman). But there are some aspects about Lucius that do differ depending on the continuity such as if he is middle-aged or elderly, or when he is introduced in the story did he meet with Bruce Wayne recently or is he an old friend of the late great Thomas Wayne.  But still much like Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner James Gordon he is known as a father figure to Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Hello folks today on the Batman VC section we take a look at the CEO of Wayne Enterprises... LUCIUS FOX! And since this is a fairly big VC I shall say that well to be honest this is a tough as just about all of these guys have done really well with this role here. The weakest performance out of all these guys is probably Leif Anders but even still its a fairly good performance nevertheless. Overall while I am certain that Morgan Freeman will most likely be a popular choice and I can certainly understand why but just about all of these guys did really well with the role here as well.

Nothing pithy to say, Here are my Top 5 Favourite Voice for Lucius Fox

5. Morgan Freeman/ Kevin Michael Richardson
4. Ernie Hudson
3. Brock Peters/ Mel Winkler
2. Dave Fennoy
1. Louis Gossett Jr

Future VA Suggestions:

I think Alvin Saunders would be solid as Lucius Fox, using a calmer, more paternal version of his Puppet Master voice.

I also think Harold Perrineau would solid as Lucius, using a similar voice to his Blade performance.

I also Recommend Jonathan Adams, Rodney Saulsberry, Scott Williams and LeVar Burton.

I usually tend to very much agree with the majority of voters' thoughts, but this is an exception: I'm failing to see what people see in Morgan Freeman's Lucius Fox altogether- maybe it's just a bad clip used for his performance here, but he sounds pretty monotone and his delivery seems kinda stilted...I don't know, maybe it's just me...? Don't get me wrong, Morgan Freeman has an epic Narrator voice & I like him as a actor in general, but...not feeling it here at *all* from him.

I do, however, really enjoy the performances of Brock Peters, Mel Winkler, Dave Fennoy, and Louis Gosset Jr. of the group. Each of them imparts this really wise, intelligent figure who is quite knowledgeable, and can also be fatherly as well as caring- in each of their performances, I got the feeling I was listening to the CEO of Wayne Enterprises who helps Bruce no matter what the circumstances are, as well. It's pretty hard to choose between them for me, honestly.

As for Kevin Michael Richardson, I'm glad he at least adjusted his timbre to match Lucius' age more, but for me he's too recognizable here, and thus a little bland as a result of that. I like Ernie Hudson's acting itself a lot, but his voice sounds a little young for me for that incarnation of Lucius, and EJ Knight is just really generic, and his delivery is off a bit.

@WrightWay I feel that is a recurring problem on some of the voice compare's where they have the celebrity voicing a character they have portrayed on film, consistently leading the poll regardless of whether or not the performance is good or not.

That being said, the notion that the celebrity performances are always better is completely false. If that was true, then all the celebrities that voiced the characters they've portrayed in film would all be at the top. Thankfully things aren't that way.

Morgan Freeman was fantastic as the live-action Lucius Fox, but I'd agree that he wasn't very good here, unfortunately.

@EPA Deane I think some people vote celebrities because of familiarity, or at least, that's how I see it.

@EPA Deane What I meant was "The Voice Direction in the Video Game Definitely did a number on His Performance".

I certainly noticed that the voice direction made Katie Holmes' performance more flaccid and annoying.

@WrightWay "I'm glad KMR adjusted his timbre to match Lucius's age"

Isn't KMR about 50 himself though?
said at 7:41 PM on Mon Jun 12 2017
True, but I guess I should've clarified that I meant that KMR didn't just use his standard voice for many roles he plays for this one, and tried to distinguish it/vary it up, my mistake.

VC thoughts update

I really like Brock Peters the most as Lucius. His delivery is quite good, and he does have a good warm fatherly sound to his voice, making him quite fitting for the character. He kinda makes me wish that James Earl Jones played Lucius (since both Brock and James have played Darth Vader, it might be pretty interesting to have them both).

Mel Winkler also does a good job at making Fox an advisor to Bruce Wayne, but it isn't as good as Peters. I just wish they had brought Brock back, but I can't complain much. At least Winkler fits Fox better than he ever did Inspector Henderson.

Dave Fennoy is really good too. He sounds like a mix between Brock and Mel, and he does nail the advisor aspect of the character.

Kevin Michael Richardson is pretty good as well. Not much else to say other than he nails it.

Ernie Hudson is a pretty unexpected choice for me (especially since I'm used to him as Cyborg), but he fits so well in the role. He just has a great warm tone, and I really think he's quite compelling in the role.

Louis Gossett, Jr., Morgan Freeman, Leif Anders and E.J. Knight have good voices, but their deliveries can be a little awkward at times.

EJ is a decent Morgan Freeman impression, not much else to say.

Ernie is a good casting and does fine but I think under better direction could have been even better.

Dave is another really good one, I think he lacks a fatherly tone that some others had but he does really well.

Lois Gossett is still my favorite.

Just like the majority here, my vote goes to Morgan Freeman! I think Brock Peters' portrayal is my second favorite, and I don't know how to rank everyone else (I also don't know why Leif Anders is ranked at the bottom for most users who commented here before I did).
said at 5:28 PM on Fri Nov 11 2016
@Jacob M. Keene Probably because he's white. Personally I have no problem with a white person voicing a black character (If a black guy can play Samurai Jack, anything goes in my book) but he doesn't even SOUND black.

I know he's not on here yet, but I'm going to be voting for Dave Fennoy when he gets added here. I think his sophisticated, deep voice works best for the character, and it's also cool to see him pop up in more video games now. He basically sounds like Bluebeard of Wolf Among Us, and Warlord Okeer of Mass Effect 2, only less dickish.

Out of all the new additions to Arkham Knight, Dave is one of my favorites, and my ideal sounding voice for Lucius. Mel Winkler, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Michael Richardson aren't far behind, but something about Dave Fennoy's performance, pitch, and personality resonate with the character better IMO.

@chaosincarnate I like Dave's voice, but his performance is very flat and fake. Maybe he'll get better with time, but he never puts a whole lot of emotion in his performance.

I like what I hear from Louis Gossett, Jr. here, so I'm voting for him. Brock Peters and Morgan Freeman are great, too. Kevin Michael Richardson is good, but doesn't sound quite old enough, and Mel Winkler is pretty good, too.

Morgan Freeman is amazing in the Nolan films so even if his clip from the game isn't brilliant, he still gets my vote for the films.

Mel is 2nd while Brock is 3rd.

Louis & Kevin both do pretty good jobs.

As for Leif, why did U even voice Lucius Fox? Just why? Yeah it wasn't good for him I'm afraid.

Morgan Freeman - It's Morgan Freeman.

Brock Peters - Pretty damn good.

Louis Gossett Jr - Different feel to his voice but I like it.

Mel Winkler - Deeper then Brock's, I like it but would like it better if it wasn't a replacement for Brock as they don't sound that much alike.

Kevin Michael Richardson - He's always good but lacks the sort of aged feel if you will. Still pretty good though.

Leif Anders - Sorry but no.

Louis Gossett Jr is simply the best, you get a good mix of intelligence yet caring. I can see him being a father figure to Bruce.

I am surprised I like Leif Sanders but he did pull off intelligent and I could hear a certain caring feel in his voice.

Morgan Freeman was alright but better in the movie.

Kevin Richardson was pretty good as it did sound smart enough. Only problem was he sounded like a young guy playing an older man.

Brock and Mel just didn't leave an impact for me and thus are kinda forgettable.
