EDITOR'S OPINION

Today on the VC section for SNK games we have the other main protagonist of the Art of Fighting series the Italian/Spanish rich Playboy ROBERT GARCIA! In the first two Art of Fighting games he was voiced by SNK employee James W. Hove and while one could in a way appreciate the novelty of Robert not having a Japanese voice in the US release the execution did not turn out well... Seriously James' Robert Garcia voice and delivery were so monotone in the 1st game (but to be fair he did somewhat improve on the 2nd game though.)

In the Art of Fighting Anime OVA's English dub he was voiced by New York VA Nick Sullivan whom is actually pretty good for this role. While the anime did play up his "Smug Smooth-talking Rich prettyboy" side up a lot during the earlier more light-hearted part of the OVA in which Nick did do a suitable job portraying Robert Garcia on how Rob was never the most humble man around but not make him too obnoxious. While when the OVA gets a bit more serious Nick's performance is still pretty good but to me his performance felt the most natural during Robert's more light-hearted moments in the OVA.

In King of Fighters XII's English version he was voiced by Japan-residing English Voice Actor Greg Irwin. I will at least say this much that unlike the other two at least Greg did make some semblance of trying to go for an accent for Robert (Italian in this case). However the accent didn't come off that well as his Robert Garcia voice sounds a bit goofy to put it mildly. Well to be fair the performance wasn't too bad, not really great mind you but there has been worse for this role. Overall I am definitely going with Nick Sullivan the most here while the other two are at a rather distant second.

Nick's not anything special, but I'll vote for him, since there's nothing better. To be fair, I think James's "Rats! Let's mix it up!" line is downright hilarious.

Greg's clip was too short.

The anime was a horrible rep of the Art of Fighting game, but Nick did a good job of capturing how smooth Robert is.

Greg did a good job of capturing the battle cries we hear from Japanese VAs.

James was a pretty dry read. I mean death valley dry...
