Voice Compare » Ape Escape » Natsumi / Natalie / Katie
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Natsumi / Natalie / Katie with sound clips and images.
Natsumi (renamed "Natalie" in English-speaking territories and named "Katie" in the United Kingdom version of the first game) is the determined and unyieldingly spirited granddaughter of the Professor. Initially a caretaker of his laboratory, she eventually develops an inventing prowess that matches her grandfather's.

EDITOR'S OPINION
This is a somewhat sizable VC, so I'll try to keep things short. Crawford and the unknown UK VA, besides sounding too old for the character, are pretty wooden in their performances, and while Preece is more age-appropriate, she also falls flat. Mumolo gets the character's age right and does some decent acting, but she plays the character as a stereotypical valley girl, which contradicts her canonically intelligent nature. Lee and Lillis aren't too distinctive in the role, but they play the character relatively well (Lillis pretty much reused her Misty voice in her case, so she gets less points in originality). Hood, while still not terribly unique, best captures Tomoko Kawakami's essence in the Japanese version and is pretty convincing to boot, so she gets my vote here.CatsTuxedo

She sounded the cutest, most natural, and unique. Of course, Amber played the character's more caring and motherly side very well, yet still maintained a strong presence. I would even go as far as to say that it's probably her best work!
#2 Wendee Lee
As usual, she's good in everything she does, as she's always been one of the greatest actresses in the industry, and her work in Pumped & Primed is no exception. It's a fine example of the voice-over work in that game, I say. Wendee is a natural when it comes to young girl voices, and with her experience, she really knew how to bring out the character, so it's kinda shame that she never reprised the role. On the other hand, her voice for Natalie has little variety from her other voices. It's very good, but I felt that she wasn't using her range as much as she normally does.
#3 Rachael Lillis
Natalie looks and very much acts like Misty, so Rachael was an obvious choice for a stand-in. I like how she had more spunk and attitude, and really made a strong presence. I'd go as far as saying that she's probably one of, if not the best performances in AE2. But much like Wendee, her Natalie is too similar to her other roles, and thus doesn't stand out as much. Still, she suits the character well, and again, she'd have improved over time had she been given the opportunity.
#4 Annie Mumolo
I like her voice, not the accent. It's not a terrible one, but it doesn't fit the character, and she sounded too much like a ditz (no offense). Still, she did a fine job, and I'm sure she would've done better had she not been directed to use that accent.
#5 Christiane Crawford
The voice acting in the original Ape Escape was decent at best. Nothing is flat-out terrible, but it could've definitely used at least some improvement, and Crawford's performance is no exception. She sounded too old, pretty generic, and atrociously wooden. Still, she's nowhere near unbearable, and back then, the VO industry wasn't anywhere near as big as it is now. Heck, there's even the nostalgia factor going for her at least.
#6 Rachel Preece
Again, acting is a bit of an issue, but what can you do. Not much else to say though...I guess she's ok.
