EDITOR'S OPINION
And as for the 6th Voice Compare we have Resistance Member (and "Big Brother" of Kei) Ryu.In the 1989 dub of the movie we have VA Steve Kramer as Ryu. On one hand this performance does get some points on how I couldn't tell that it was Steve at first and that the voice work itself is not so bad. (Though on the other hand I am sure there were folks who didn't like the fact that he was called Roy then.)
In the 2001 Pioneer dub he was voiced by Robert "Gene Starwind" Bucholtz, now the 2001 dub of Akira was a fine dub and Robert Bucholtz is a good VA. Though to be honest I wasn't quite if this was the best voice for him, the acting was just fine but I am not sure if the voice was perfectly fitting. (Oh sure its not bad in general but still.)
Neither are perfect for the role but I am slightly going with Steve Kramer here to be honest, I know that the Pioneer dub is far more renowned than the Streamline one (and I can understand why) but still.

The problem I have with Kramer's rendition is that he sounds rather deadpan, as if he's just reading from the script. It's a mediocre performance overall.
Buchholz is probably a bit TOO recognizable if you're familiar with him as Gene Starwind from "Outlaw Star", but having said that, he still gives the superior performance. He sounds far more believable and fitting. And at the very least he puts more life into it.
