Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Ice King with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Adventure Time

The Ice King is an elderly sociopath who rules the Ice Kingdom and the main antagonist of the series. His main objective is to capture princesses in the hopes of marrying one. He is able to freeze things with the use of "frozen lightning bolts" and fly using his beard. These powers stem from his crown; his powers disappear when the crown is removed from his head.

In the original short aired on Nickelodeon, the Ice King is voiced by John Kassir. In the main series on Cartoon Network, he is voiced by Tom Kenny.

Kassir gives a shrill, shrieking performance that, while suitably manic and evil-sounding, doesn't suggest that it allows for too much range. Meanwhile, Kenny's relatively lower-key take captures the persona of a lonely and neurotic old guy quite well while still being able to pull off the character's evil, more aggressive moments. My vote's going with Kenny here.

Tom Kenny is excellent as The Ice King, he can make him work as both a comedic villain and a really tragic character too.

John Kassir maybe could have done the more tragic depressing aspects of the character had he stayed on for the series but as is it isn't too much to go with but for the most part he did the role well.

Tom Kenny's had more time in the role and pulls off all aspects of his characterization. He's got my vote for sure.

Kassir works for the pilot, sounding both intimidating and funny. But I don't think that voice could convey all the sides the character has in the show, especially the tragic element. Kenny on the other hand plays each part of Ice King perfectly, and so earns my vote.

John Kassir by a long shot. Tom Kenny is decent but I don't find him terribly appealing in the role. They should of stuck with John Kassir for the show.

I like both, but Tom Kenny is excellent in this role and does a great job showing off all facets' of the warped Ice King's personality from his anger to his goofiness to his sadness. One of the best roles in which Tom has been able to demonstrate his versatility and broad range.

VERY tough call, since they both sound so similar and crazy. I'm giving it to Tom Kenny because he had more time and experience with the character.

They are both similar though Tom is better but John was kinda funny.

Ice King is such a tragic yet entertaining character, and Tom Kenny captures the persona perfectly. I have a hard time believing John would be able to pull the more tragic scenes off.

Kassir may have a good crazy guy and he worked for sure, but Kenny had it everything else. I honestly think this is his best role he's ever gotten. He has great comedic timing, and he handles the more sympathetic moments very well. And he does a good job in making him sound sane at certain points of the show. True, he's been at it longer, but...even in his earlier bits, Kenny just had more than Kassir ever had. I'm giving it to Tom Kenny here.

Both are good, but I'd have to go with Tom Kenny; he's much more versatile and adds lots of dimension to the character (though to be fair, he did voice him MUCH longer).

Kassir worked just fine for the pilot, but it wouldn't have worked well-enough for the series. Kenny manages to show different sides of the character in his portrayal so I'm definitely going with him.

I dunno! John has a very unique voice for the Ice King; a lot of anger and comedically pitchy. His seriousness allows for some humorous irony and contrast, but the joke probably would've gotten played out if they had kept him. Tom adds depth to the character and makes for more comedic situations.

I think Kassir played a good "mad evil bad guy" type, but Kenny captured the humility and humanity of the Ice King. Plus, his voice is easier to relate to to me; it's almost like he tries too hard to be wicked and mean, but it's endearing.

Kassir is fine, but Tom brings a hilarious neurotic quality to the Ice King that has quickly made it one of my favorite roles from him.

I like John Kassir's just a little more. Sounds a tad more villainous and slightly more comedic, but Tom Kenny makes for a good replacement.

I'll say John Kassir. I like his voice better; sounds unique and I think it fits the character slightly more than Tom Kenny's take.
