Street Fighter 3

Street Fighter 3

Street Fighter 3

Release Date in USA: February 04, 1997

Franchise: Street Fighter
There were three versions of the game: Street Fighter III: New Generation, Street Fighter III: Second Impact (adding Akuma, Hugo, and Urien), and Street Fighter III: Third Strike (which redid all of the voice acting while adding Chun-Li, Remy, Makoto, Twelve, and Q).

Ryu and Ken were not originally supposed to be in the game. They appeared in the final version mainly due to fan backlash, while Akuma and Chun-Li returned in the later editions described above.

No doubt Street Fighter III is one of the best titles I have ever played... And I'm not joking around when I say that. I remember going into a place called 'Fun Fun Fun' (the title is obnoxious :/) and it had an exact arcade cabinet of this game and Street Fighter Alpha 3... I never knew what to expect, but personally, I enjoyed this one more. The music is top-notch, graphics/character models were killer for its time, and best of all, the gameplay engine was so fleshy and attractive that most SF gamers will admit this was a damn excellent installment... And also look out for the Online Edition coming for Playstation Network and Xbox Live this summer, all you Street Fighters out there to relieve your cherished memories! Overall, my opinion is:

Street Fighter III > Street Fighter IV, since Street Fighter IV would've been a better title if it weren't for how bad the character models appeared, or the incredibly sappy, but dramatic Ultra Combos.
