I think the first Sonic game that had voice acting was actually either Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car or SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter. Yes they had (some) actual gameplay.

@TeridaxXD001 Did they really? Looking them up apparently they did.

I'd heard of those games long ago but didn't know they had VO. Doesn't help that they were pretty rare and obscure with little documented info until recently.

@NCZ The other problem is that we don't know who voiced Sonic in them. They haven't been dumped either, so that greatly reduces the amount of info on them.

@NCZ AND turns out SegaSonic Popcorn Shop also had voices:

@TeridaxXD001 Not sure where they've got it from, but Japanese wikipedia claims that Toshio Furukawa voiced Sonic in those early games as well as in a commercial for the original game (the very end of this one:, with Kusao taking over for SegaSonic and the Popcorn machine. I'm going to have to look into that later, though.

Funny thing is I remember reading a thread on NeoGAF a while ago where someone wanted to get ahold of the WakuWaku ROM so they could dump it. Guess nothing became of that, huh?

@NCZ There's an entire Undumped Wiki, and it has contact with several dumpers. I think they take donations and buy rare games with them, then obviously dump them.

I HAVE seen at least one of the kiddie ride Sonic games on the Chinese-run arcade shopping site Coinopexpress, but it's not there anymore.

@TeridaxXD001 I take that back. SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter is currently listed for $1811.52.

@NCZ Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car and SegaSonic Popcorn Shop are now dumped and readily available. Maybe there's something in the ROMs that will help identify the voices. They probably don't have credits, but sometimes developers hide their names in the data.

@TeridaxXD001 Ah, I'd heard people finally got ahold of them. Great news. I'll keep that in mind for the future.
