 2 Shout Outs!
So much to talk about... I wanted to play the hell out of this title the moment I saw its announcement trailer. The first PXZ got me hyped for sure, but looking at it retrospectively, it was only... good. Not amazing - just good. It was great seeing some of my favorite characters and the script could get pretty hilarious, though the game's handling of that excuse plot could've been better, repetition was something I encountered often, and Kogoro/Mii... Didn't care for either one of those leads tbh.

For this sequel, the dev team thankfully axed those two and made the lovable Reiji/Xiaomu pair the main protagonists again, and Ouma the core threat. Seeing how this installment was released 10 years after Namco x Capcom and even makes callbacks to the latter, I find all this fitting.

But to move onto my actual feelings of the game, personally I'd say Project X Zone 2 is a *giant* improvement over the last entry. There's a better sense of coherent storytelling this time 'round, bigger stakes, new mechanics like Mirage Cancelling and the Shop feature make for a fresher experience, and you notice seemingly higher production values in spite of the game's shoestring budget (?). Speaking of production, the music is phenomenal, especially taking into consideration the live environment that the soundtrack was recorded in. I'm not gonna sit here and list specific pieces, though the intermission theme (i.e. menu screen) is *sexy*. Another positive thing to note regarding the OST is no songs were cut when the game launched internationally... unlike what happened with the predecessor due to licensing rights, I suppose.

The writing is snappier and a lot less jumbled compared to PXZ2's predecessor. Even the interactions and overall dialogue are way consistently funnier. Xiaomu of course has many memorable lines, though Segata Sanshiro's and Sheath's are very amusing as well; the English localization for the latter is brilliant.

Now to get onto the reason why many people are at least curious about these crossovers: the roster. There's more in the way of fan favorite choices here. {inhale} Axel from Streets of Rage, Mega Man X's Sigma is an enemy unit, Ryo of Shenmue goes solo and is lookin' for sailors, Vergil's here to tell the player that might controls everything, Phoenix/Maya via Ace Attorney, etc. Hell, Fire Emblem (a Nintendo IP) has playable representatives in the form of Chrom/Lucina. What a pleasant surprise! My girl Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution made it in, too. There's returnees from NxC like Captain Commando who I was super jazzed to see make the cut. In general the selection's great.

And yeah, at the end of the day, I'm gonna be that guy and deem Project X Zone 2 a near-perfect 3DS game. My only real complaint is that it's easy when stacked next to the last one. The fact that I beat the final stage on my first try was an indicator, and even when I got game overs, that was less on a mission's end so much as it was on mine for charging headlong. It'd most likely be harder whenever I get to playing NG+, yet that raises the question, "Is New Game+ for PXZ2 still quicker to get through than the New Game+ mode for PXZ1?" Something to think about.

Feeling a decent 9 on this mother. I do apologize if somebody gets a migraine from reading this post.

You have to wonder who else they could add for a potential 3rd game in this franchise. I was surprised to see Fire Emblem characters in this game.

Might be a long shot but if we got KOF characters in Project X Zone, I'd be satisfied with that.

I just LOVE Sheath! Getting to fandub as her is the verymuch funny desu!

Fire Emblem characters?! Now I definitely didn't expect that!! I'm still not sure about getting the game, but I'll at least try the demo.

I love how hilarious they made Sheath in the NA translations desu~

They did a good job in the cast, superior dialogue than the first game.

Downloading this game now, oh the excitement!

@BrooklynDizzy Just did the notice that the comment was made at Sheath. Sheath also have done the download of the game now desu! (I swear after you cast me as Sheath I started talking like her non-stop!)
said at 8:12 AM on Sat Feb 13 2016
Is it true that the game is getting a full translation? English speaking VA's too? I was just curious cause I read it somewhere and wasn't sure if it were true. But if not I love the Japanese VA's, no one can beat them...except my fandub cast XD

@BrooklynDizzy The text is being localized into a bunch of languages (English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Korean), but the voices are going to be Japanese-only.

@NCZ Well that's a relief! That means I can continue my fandub project for the full version! Thank you for the information ^.^

If there's any character I'm surprised isn't in this, it's Bayonetta. She would fit in perfectly!

(Plus we would finally get the chance to have her and Dante in the same game...)
said at 2:31 PM on Fri Feb 19 2016
@NCZ In fact, Kamiya was offered but he refused, now he sorta Regrets the refusal.

@SonikkuAensland Ahh, I saw that last night. That's interesting to see.

If his reason is that he wants to make the DMC and Bayonetta crossover himself, well, now THAT's something I'd really like to see.
said at 5:57 PM on Sun Jan 31 2016
Played the demo, the game IMPROVED a lot, however, my complains are that I have a limited set of moves usage, and the enemies became a little bit too easy.
said at 6:15 PM on Sun Jan 31 2016
The demo increases in difficulty the more you beat it.
said at 12:33 PM on Fri Feb 5 2016
@VaisuKaguya I know, but compared to the first game is a lot of easier, I know the difficulty increase.
said at 1:56 PM on Fri Feb 5 2016
You mean the demo is easier then the entire first game? Kinda goes without saying.
said at 5:59 AM on Thu Nov 26 2015
What if Sonic the Hedgehog was included?
said at 1:11 PM on Fri Nov 27 2015
@Marusero He'd be nice, but it's unlikely.

Hold on a second, Segata Sanshiro? THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER!

Wait a minute. I thought that's a Namco-Capcom-Sega crossover game. But what is Fire Emblem doing here?
I don't want to be rude, just curious.

@bogcsa1013 Fire Emblem AND Xenoblade.

The first Namco X Capcom was developed by Monolith Soft. At the time, they were a studio owned by Namco.

Around 2007, Monolith Soft was sold by Namco, and purchased by Nintendo, becoming one of their main first-party studios.

They went back to Monolith in order to develop the first PXZ, which means that it is technically a Nintendo-developed game. So because of that, in the sequel they decided to take things further and include characters from a few Nintendo series. Xenoblade is especially a funny inclusion since it was made by Monolith under Nintendo as a spiritual successor to Xenosaga... which was made from them while they were under Namco. (Hopefully in the next game Square will be involved so we can get Xenogears in there too.)

I'm still crossing my fingers for Baten Kaitos representation because the stars (Namco, Nintendo, and Monolith) are completely aligned on that front.

@NCZ I could imagine Mario or any other Nintendo characters joining this crazy-cross-over, but I'm not sure how this would fit in the shoes...!

I never got around to the first one because I heard mixed things about it but man, I am really liking the look of this character lineup. So many franchises both legendary and obscure are receiving love, and the lineup consists of some of four amazing companies' best and most memorable characters, and Ingrid. The voice cast alone is shaping up really well. I'm seriously tempted to buy this just because of how much I like the character roster.

Also, we now have Ryo Hazuki and Kazuma Kiryu in the same game. We've come full circle.

@NCZ I'm just really curious to hear Wakamoto as three different characters in one game.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 10:18 AM on Wed Oct 7 2015
@VaisuKaguya Oh, definitely. I thought that was really funny when I noticed it.

If Barbatos or Yoshimitsu (SC) were in this game, then Wakamoto would be voicing one character for each of the four companies involved!
said at 1:43 PM on Wed Oct 7 2015
@VaisuKaguya Morikawa as Three Capcom Characters too!
said at 2:11 PM on Wed Oct 7 2015
@SonikkuAensland Pair (Dante), Solo (Leon), Enemy (Black Hayato). He's pretty much got all bases covered lol.

@SonikkuAensland He'd be four if they didn't recast Ryu.

@NCZ They made a neat nod to how he use to voice Ryu

@VaisuKaguya Ahhhhh, that's amazing. I love it.

Takahashi's been doing a great job with Ryu but I do miss the classic sound that Morikawa brought to him.

I actually liking this lineup than the first game.

I know Lucina's got an amiibo, but you'd think Nintendo would've wanted characters from Fates included instead.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 11:19 AM on Sat Sep 26 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 Fates may be newer but Awakening is the best-selling Fire Emblem game. In comparison, Fates is "just another FE game". Understandable decision to me.
said at 2:29 PM on Sat Sep 26 2015
@NCZ So basically, Nintendo has free reign to plaster Awakening's characters everywhere like Atlus has done with Persona 4's?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:46 PM on Sat Sep 26 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 I hope to god we never reach that point.
said at 3:20 PM on Sat Sep 26 2015
@NCZ At least Nintendo got a sequel to Awakening in 3 years, while Atlus took 7. Still though, the Awakening characters being here is almost as strange as Link and Zelda using their Twilight Princess designs for Smash 4.

said at 3:43 PM on Sat Sep 26 2015

Yeah, IntSys have done well at ensuring Fire Emblem comes out on a timely basis, while Persona seems to do two games, then take a break for the better part of a decade. But then they make up for it by milking P3 and 4 to death until we're completely sick of them, so I suppose it evens out.

Keeping the TP designs in Smash was understandable to me since Sheik and Ganondorf don't have any post-TP material to draw from (Hyrule Warriors being a spinoff and likely came too late to be considered considering there's no acknowledgement of it at all in SSB4). I what's really weird thing in this is that Vesperia is the only Tales game to be represented even though it was old news by the time PxZ *1* was out.

Seeing Chrom and Lucina made me so happy and even more hyped for this game.
said at 9:01 AM on Sat Sep 19 2015
Imagine if Project X Zone 3 would have the Fire Emblem cast and we finally get to see what the original SMTXFE would have played like since the teaser had every franchise having 2 characters, Chrom and Lucina were shown at the end so this is a callback to almost 3 years ago.
said at 6:41 AM on Sat Sep 19 2015
 1 Shout Out!
Wow! I seriously wasn't expecting Fire Emblem's Chrom and Lucina to appear in this, as well as Fiora from Xenoblade. Would be cool if Kid Icarus characters were also included, along with a remix of "Boss Battle 1" from Uprising. Now that would be pretty awesome!
said at 8:53 AM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@GuiltyBadguy Well the Xeno developers have been working with them since the first game and Kosmos is still their character, so its fanservice for Xenosaga teamed up with their recent cybernetic character. Chrom and Lucina made my jaw drop, just shows how incredibly popular Awakening is in Japan.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 1:12 PM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@GuiltyBadguy Kid Icarus is one of the few major Nintendo series that has realistically-proportioned humanoid characters, so if they ever wanted to include more Nintendo franchises I'd say it's probably among the next in line.

I guess there aren't a ton of Nintendo games that meet that criteria. There's Zelda but that might be a bit too high-fantasy for the tone that PxZ has set for itself. After that there's probably F-Zero, Golden Sun, Metroid, Sin and Punishment, and then we start getting into the really obscure stuff like Trace Memory or Famicom Detective Club or Soma Bringer.

@ErronDio You probably know this already but Monolith Soft used to be owned by Namco, and they were purchased by Nintendo in 2007.

Seeing Xenoblade and Fire Emblem characters is really cool, even if I think not having an Ephraim and Eirika Pair Unit from the latter series is a mixed opportunity. Hope to see a tag-team of Shulk with either Dunban or Reyn too.

And on the subject of Nintendo/Namco/Monolith franchises... Baten Kaitos, anybody? Make it happen!
said at 2:17 PM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@NCZ Now that I looked at the character line-up above, I think the developers for this game could use some more cartoony characters (Pac-Man and Sonic, please, they're still the international company mascots after all).
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:22 PM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 The character lineup above is the exact reason those characters won't fit in. :P

PxZ generally spotlights more niche/"hardcore" series which incidentally tend to use realistic human characters. It's not a balls-to-the-wall crossover like Marvel VS Capcom where they can throw in whatever character they want with the insanity being a major part of the game's aesthetic. As much as I'd like to see Viewtiful Joe or Klonoa or whoever I get that they'd conflict too much with what this series sets out to do.
said at 2:27 PM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@NCZ Lack of cohesiveness didn't stop Klonoa from sneaking into Namco X Capcom, but I see your point.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:48 PM on Sat Sep 19 2015
@Scrappy-Fan92 That is true. Namco X Capcom seemed to have a lot more variety in its character choices. A lot more non-human and stylized characters there.

The only thing I can really think of is that then, they were dealing with only two companies instead of three (and now, four) so a bit of heterogeneousness here and there seems less noticeable. Whereas if you're dealing with multiple companies and franchises there needs to be some level of cohesion so it doesn't look like they're throwing everything at a wall.
said at 11:08 AM on Sun Sep 20 2015
@NCZ Yeah I know I'm saying they paired up their past popular character with their newer character for fanservice, like if Megaman is paired up with Beck, Yooka and Laylee paired up with Banjo and Kazooie.
said at 5:36 PM on Mon Sep 21 2015
@GuiltyBadguy An humanoid character who would fit is Captain Falcon, especially his Smash Bros persona! n_n

Toshiyuki Morikawa voiced both Leon's, i see what you did there Capcom lol.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 7:09 PM on Tue Jul 7 2015
@RykoMD Who's the other Leon? ...Dante?
said at 7:56 PM on Tue Jul 7 2015
@NCZ Dante, exactly. Because both of them were created by Hideki Kamiya.

said at 8:26 PM on Tue Jul 7 2015
@RykoMD The best damn developer in the industry.

(I'm sure you know this already but Devil May Cry was even supposed to be a Resident Evil game.)

Not surprised by the delay to be honest. I always thought the idea of a worldwide launch for this kind of game seemed a bit optimistic.

The real problem of the first title was the excessive linearity,I hope that in this sequel they put missions with various conditions of victory like a true strategic

A sequel? Eh, I don't know. I never finished the first one, due to losing interest. Though, I did get stuck on this one level. But since this one will include Leon Kennedy and Phoenix Wright, maybe.

@DravenRoth994 I heard mixed things about the first one, especially regarding its length and writing. The devs claim to be addressing some of the more common criticisms this time around. But yeah, best thing to do is wait and see, being cautiously optimistic.
said at 4:33 PM on Thu May 21 2015
@DravenRoth994 well, when you get with the first one, then juet think about it, ok! :-)
said at 6:01 PM on Thu May 21 2015
@Norozco18 I don't know. I was thinking of selling my copy. Plus, I erased the data I had, so I'd have to start over.
said at 6:24 PM on Thu May 21 2015
@NCZ Yeah, those were some of the problems I had with it too, along with the gameplay, which got tedious to me after a while. Still, I am going to wait and see. I never give up on things that quickly.
