Saw an entire playthrough of this, but one thing I don't get. How come Akainu was responsible for killing Ace in this game? Wasn't it Blackbeard/Marshall Teach that killed Ace in the anime?

@Fulgore2005 Disregard that post. It was Akainu that killed Ace in the anime. It was a while since I saw that scene.

@Kenshin_san Seriously? That sucks.

Can't say it was completely unexpected, though. Koei (the developers) did the same thing with Warriors Orochi 3. They and Namco (the publisher) are REALLY cheap when it comes to English dubs.

@NCZ Yup Shonen Jump tweeted the news a few days ago, but for me personally the moment they said this game was going to be release Digitally for Na, dub chances became very slim. so im not all that surprised :/

@Kenshin_san

Disappointing but I still have some minor doubts.

One Piece is a shonen jump property but I don't see why VIZ would know anything when they're not even involved with this game. Shouldn't Namco Bandai be the company to confirm "no dub" ?

I read some comments on other sites and one fan pointed out that the tweet was from E3. Just because there was no dub included for the demos there (leading to the assumption there would be no dub) doesn't mean a dub isn't being worked on.

At this point I'd be surprised if it was just a misunderstanding and there will be a dub but I won't hold my breath.

Just seems a bit ridiculous that this game is being given terrible treatment for North America.

1. Digital Only means some fans will now import if they haven't already; the possibility of a dub was the only reason for them supporting the local North American release

2. No dub = lower sales and less appealing to mainstream fans

3. If it's sub-only why wait so long to release it? I understand the end of the year is the best time to really big games but now that it's all but confirmed to having a barebones release, I doubt it really stands a chance of being successful outside of Japan.

Guess TPTB wanted to play it safe at the cost of MAYBE having a huge hit. Shame.

@Jackson_H Good point. The tweet was made during E3 and even mentioned it as a hashtag. So maybe there will be an English dub after all?

Wouldn't be surprised if there really isn't, though. WO3 from the same developer got equally lazy treatment; digital only, entirely Japanese.

yep but then again after the game sold over 900 000 copies in japan, u would think namco bandai would be nice enough to use that extra cash to excellently promote the game in other regions (e.g giving it a physical copy in NA and giving an english dub) instead of using it to wipe their asses.

@Kenshin_san Again, Namco is SUPER stingy.

The Tales series is a great example. In Japan, it's super popular and one of the top five beloved RPG series. Elsewhere, they treat it pretty badly. First of all, only about half of the games have even been released outside of Japan. Secondly, all of the games except Symphonia have non-union English dubs. And until Vesperia, optional scenes such as sidequests and skits were unvoiced in order to avoid paying actors for material that wasn't 100% required. In a nutshell, when they DO release a Tales game, they typically do the bare minumum and call it a day.

Some of their games a few years ago also had DLC that was already on the disc, but they thankfully seem to have cut down on this.

@NCZ well said sir, as for the one piece series, Funi is releasing season 4 (water 7 arc etc). which is the part of series that has received a big fanbase. so let's just hope the sales are High enough to make Namco's stingy ass realize japan is not the only place worth investing money in.

@NCZ I don't know about the PS3, but on the 360 WO3 did get released on a disc.

@Nightmare Crusher After looking it up, you're right. I think I'm starting to make some sense of it now. Sony has some strict policies involving Japanese voice acting in games, and since they weren't interested in dubbing it, they were forced to make it digital-only.

@Andy15Tran If it does happen, which character do you think he could best play? Personally, I think he'd be a great Foxy.

@VocalChameleon I thick that he should voice Jabra using one of his aggressive voices

U.S. trailer

Funimation logo is shown at the end among the companies involved with this game.

Strongly implies there could indeed be an English dub.

I want Brook to be voice by Vic Mignogna and Boa Hancock to be voice by Brina Palencia. As for the rest I'll just find out when the game is released

@Andy15Tran

Mike McFarland said in a One Piece episode commentary that none of the main cast will ever play other major characters.

So Brina voicing Hancock is not going to happen.

Besides she's not that good at doing sexy voices anyways so that's bad casting IMO. She should stick to young girls and boys.

Juvia Loxar (Fairy Tail)
Nanase Kudou (Kaze No Stigma)

My English cast guesses for new characters:

Brook: Chris Ayres

Boa Hancock: Jamie Marchi

Jimbei: David Wald

Bartholomew Kuma: Kyle Hebert

Kizaru: Andrew Love

Sentomaru: Jim Foronda

Magellan: Ric Spiegel

Hannyabal: Charles Campbell

Emporio Ivankov: Josh Grelle

Akainu: Jason Douglas

Silvers Rayleigh: Bruce Carey

I'm aware some of my suggestions have voiced other characters in past episodes but they're never seen again.

Really hope it gets a North American release date soon.

Would be great to know which English VAs will voice characters in episodes the anime dub hasn't got to yet (past season 4).

*Brook
*Boa Hancock
*Jimbei
*Bartholomew Kuma
*Kizaru
*Sentomaru
*Magellan
*Hannyabal
*Emporio Ivankov
*Akainu
*Silvers Rayleigh (not sure if the same VA in a flashback will be used, probably not)

@Jackson_H I hope so too. Knowing how well Funimation has looked after One Piece, Im sure that the performances will be great. That aside, I'm also curious about whether there will be new game features or modes.
