 1 Shout Out!
With the game being out for a while, I thought I'd make a list of my top 5 best voices, as well as my least favorites.
My favorites are-
Kira Buckland as Eirika- She nailed every aspect for the characters personality and made her quite likable IMO.
Byrce Papenbrook as Raven- I am aware that this is an odd choice, but I really enjoyed his performance and it was nice to see Bryce steeping out of his comfort zone.
Patrick Setiz as Hector- This casting choice was truly perfect. Sure, he did sound a bit old, but he fitted quite nicely.
Grant George as Sigurd- He nailed the whole tragic part of the character quite well and I enjoyed his performance a lot. As a matter of fact, everyone from the Genaogly banner deserves praise for their work, because there wasn't one voice from the banner that I didn't love.
Wendee Lee as Maria- This is an odd choice yet again, but Lee was so cute and endearing in the role I couldn't resist it. I love her performance quite a lot.

My least favorite voices are-
Cindy Robinson as Peri- You know that face Peri makes sometimes when she's crying and all of her makeup is coming off? Thats pretty much the face I made when I heard her voice for the role. Don't get me wrong, she isn't a bad VA but her Peri was plain insufferable TBH.
Bryce Papenbrook as Karel- Where do I even begin? His Raven was good and his deep resister is nice to listen to, but it was not a good fit for Karel in the slightest. What were they thinking when they made this choice?
Yuri Lowenthal as Merric- It's not that I disliked the voice he used, it was just to similar to Marth's, which could easily become a huge problem.
Karen Strassmen as Hana- I adored her as Hana back in Fates, but she sounded like she was trying way to hard here and it was rather grating IMO.
Mic Wingert as Dancer!Inigo- I didn't really have any problems here it just sounded a bit...off to me? I really don't know. I'm only really putting him here because I needed one last performance to bash.

Toshiyuki Morikawa is absolutely PERFECT casting for Sigurd. Wow.

@Shaun Ince This appears to be his first one.

@NCZ Yeah, both his English and Japanese voices couldn't be more perfect even if you tried. The same can be said with every character in this banner. Although the casting choice for Tailtu, was the most surprising. I never would've expected Heather Hogan of all people to show up in this game.

Now we wait for next week to see who voices Ayra and Arvis.

@MHUltimate2013DW It's Brina Palencina and Xander Mobus. I honestly couldn't be more pleased.

So...everyone has been talking about a Genealogy Banner. It would be nice to see Sigurd in the game. But who to voice him... my top choice would easily be Johnny Yong Bosch, but I can't wait to see who does end up getting cast. I just hope it's someone new to the franchise (I do feel that it should be that way whenever a lord is getting cast)

@Soul-dragon

If Sigurd is part of this banner, then they also better bring his wife, best friend, and sister with him as well.

Arvis was also rumored to be a Grand Hero Battle.

If they were going for a Halloween theme, instead of giving us Camilla dressed up as witch...why not give us Rinea as a witch...a REAL witch. Now there's an idea!
Soul-dragon
said at 5:19 PM on Fri Sep 22 2017
@PeachesDaisy Really? My top choices for a Halloween Banner would be Eirika, Alm, Julia and Hector (I'm already coming up with potential costumes and stats). However, I don't care just as long as we don't get anymore Awakening and Fates characters!
PeachesDaisy
said at 12:48 PM on Sat Sep 23 2017
@Soul-dragon That's it...just blow off my idea like its nothing and give your idea...4 characters we already have...great! Your a genius! We don't want any Fates or Awakening characters...but give us a bunch of characters we don't have! YEAH!

But I digress. Considering there was a witch class in Fates I'd expect to see someone from Fates, or maybe Tharja (or maybe Rhjat?)

But I'd rather NOT see another Lucina, or another Camilla. But yeah, anyone you mentioned wouldn't bother me, wouldn't make me happy...
Soul-dragon
said at 5:21 PM on Sat Sep 23 2017
@PeachesDaisy I disagree on getting someone from Fates. Yes it is likely, but both Fates and Awakening have had all of the love and crossovers in the world and I think I speak for everyone when I say that I'm honestly sick of it. I'd really like to see a costume banner that mainly focuses on the older games instead of the new ones, as well as another Tokyo Mirage Sessions that focuses on the older games.
As for the characters I mentioned they would make a lot of people happy (even if it doesn't please you). Especially Hector. Everyone seems to love the Hectorcopter, heck someone even suggested putting him in Mario Kart! As for Alm, I know a lot of people enjoy him (he's one of the most asked about characters when it comes to Warriors) and who doesn't? He's extremely dorky and he feels a bit more human than the other lords. And Eirika? She definitely has her fans (I know because I'm one of them) and she needs a bit more attention (still mad she wasn't in the bride DLC. I mean really? She's the mascot for the class! I would've disliked the banner a lot less if she was in it instead of Cordelia or Charlotte). But I definitely agree on Camilla and Lucina.
HylianBelmont
said at 11:51 PM on Fri Sep 29 2017
@Soul-dragon Eh. If I'm being honest, I am a Fire Emblem veteran ™ and I totally understand why those two games (Awakening and Conquest) get the most love in that regard.

Though yeah, I wouldn't say Fates "in general" gets all the love because Hoshido always gets shafted in those event things (Hell, it's basically CQ Corrin who only makes an appearance in the story mode of Warriors as well)

Also... I'm not too big on Alm personally, but he would've been much better than Celica. Won't lie there.
Soul-dragon
said at 4:21 PM on Mon Oct 2 2017
@HylianBelmont Yeah, Hoshiado doesn't get that much love compared to Nohr. Kind of sad considering that I enjoy the Hoshiadian siblings a ton. And Alm is definitely better than Celica. I do like her, but she was extremely dumb in the third and final act. Heck, in a translated support conversation from Warriors Xander tells her off for being dumb. XANDER. That's a huge sign that you need to be smarter.
HylianBelmont
said at 4:49 PM on Mon Oct 2 2017
@Soul-dragon I mean Xander, overall, despite having some genuine character flaws (which also make him more enjoyable as a character to me) IS a fairly intelligent, wise older brother figure. So it's hardly surprising IMO.

(On a side note: the "Story!Xander and Support!Xander are two completely different characters" is a goofball mentality)

 4 Shout Outs!
Black Knight is one of my favorite characters from Fire Emblem and I actually started playing Heroes again just so I could get him when he comes out. Roert Clotworthy is probably one of the last casting choices I would have expected, but I hope that means it pays off. After all, Imari Williams as Valter was a pretty out of the box move and that turned out great.

@Nightmare Crusher

While he's not released to players yet he has voice clips on the wiki since they were datamined. He sounds pretty good IMO.

@Nightmare Crusher Yeah, he's doing a fantastic job. It's kind of cool how many VAs got to play against type in this game. For example, I would've never thought of Amanda Celine Miller for Elincia, and honestly? After hearing some of her performance (when I summoned the character first try) and I think I'm warming up to it. Also Bryce Papenbrook was an odd choice for Raven (in the beginning), but I honestly ended up really liking his performance! Here's to hoping, we get more odd choices that work well!

 1 Shout Out!
Glad some more PoR hero's are joining. Pleasantly surprised with Bryce as Oscar, I think he sells it well. Ditto on Julie Ann on Nephenee, happy they didn't exaggerate her country roots.

Not too sure on Amanda Miller as Elincia. Her register as Cherche seems more fitting IMO for Elincia than what she's using, but I'll see if I warm to it.
Soul-dragon
said at 1:21 PM on Thu Sep 14 2017
@SNaG TBH I kind of wish that Amanda Miller and Julie Anne Taylor had swapped roles. It would've been a bit more fitting, since Elincia needed something a bit more regal and Amanda sounded rough on the edges, which would've worked better on someone like Lucia.
Now then. Who will voice the Black Knight? He's uncredited on the wiki, meaning the identity of his VA is a mystery. I'm hoping for Chris Telifera honestly.
SNaG
said at 1:32 PM on Thu Sep 14 2017
@Soul-dragon

I could be wrong, but since the new characters have not been updated into the game yet it cannot be datamined. The wiki lists Junji Majima since he was the voice in PoR (I believe) but the lack of an English voice right now on the wiki doesn't mean there isn't one uncredited a la Laura Bailey. We'll see tomorrow.
Soul-dragon
said at 2:04 PM on Thu Sep 14 2017
@SNaG Yeah let's hope for that. However, Imari Williams credit for Valder was datamined, so I see no reason his shouldn't. Oh well. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

said at 3:31 PM on Thu Sep 14 2017
@SNaG Wasn't Nephenee mentioned to have a fairly strong accent in Path of Radiance though?
SNaG

@Soul-dragon

Ah, maybe I didn't make it clear. Imari was datamined after the game updated to include Valter (always can tell if characters have been added in by the Catalogue) so that's where he was datamined. Most likely, the PoR update will hit tonight and then the datamine will reflect who his VA is. Can't datamine non-existent data, after all.

Well, it looks like neither Laura Bailey or Jason Adkins are reprising their roles for the "Choose Your Legends" event. That being said, is it safe to assume both have been permanently replaced?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 12:28 PM on Tue Aug 29 2017
@Soul-dragon

Way too premature in both instances, especially Ike. Big difference between having an understudy when the main actor is unavailable, and permanently recasting someone because you want to go in a new direction.
Soul-dragon
said at 12:35 PM on Tue Aug 29 2017
@NCZ Was it confirmed that Chun is a temporary replacement for Adkins?
technickal
said at 12:47 PM on Tue Aug 29 2017
@Soul-dragon I wouldn't say permanently, but definitely for the time being. Also, Lyn suddenly went uncredited. Recast or personal decision?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 1:46 PM on Tue Aug 29 2017
@technickal

Still Wendee.

@Soul-dragon

I mean it's not confirmed to be permanent? Jumping the gun a bit here. A single game out of all the times Ike has appeared isn't enough to say anything is permanent when the simpler conclusion is Greg Chun was already available and it would have been too difficult/time-consuming/etc. to outsource to Bad Animals for just a few lines. If it happens again in a bigger appearance maybe there'd be something to it.
Soul-dragon
said at 3:40 PM on Wed Aug 30 2017
@NCZ Well...I found this. https://comedyngaming.com/news/interview-greg-chun-fire-emblems-new-ike It appears as if the previous VA wasn't mentioned even once and it's being treated like it's permanent. But then again, I guess it's not smart to jump to conclusions.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 3:57 PM on Wed Aug 30 2017
@Soul-dragon

If I'm reading it right my takeaway is he was offered Ephraim and Eldigan based on his audition and cast as Lukas and Ike directly. It doesn't sound like he knew there was a previous VA for Ike, but there are many instances of VAs voicing characters and not being informed they aren't the first to play that part. It's also not the whole story since Nintendo's side as to why they made this casting decision isn't there. When even as recently as Fates and Codename Steam Nintendo went to the trouble of outsourcing to Bad Animals to get Jason Adkins back, it's too early to look at one game with fewer lines than both of those and think anything is permanent.

@Soul-dragon

Recording voices for stuff like this is done several months in advance fwiw, so chances are Laura probably still wasn't available at the time of these events' recordings depending on when these were recorded. There's a good chance all of the Heroes' DLC events were recorded within the time frame that Laura was working on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and a bunch of other large scale projects so it's possible that she still wasn't available at the time. Alexis is probably serving as more of a long-term substitute whenever they can't get ahold of Laura due to availability reasons. LB is generally pretty busy so which VA will play Lucina in hypothetical future appearances will probably depend on whether getting Laura is possible within the time period. She's been scheduled out of multiple other dubs before, so it's not like it's Nintendo's own decision here. They may try to get her back for a hypothetical future appearance if they can get her back. Plus based on Twitter and some of the stuff Laura has said before, she seems to really value her role as Lucina so she'd probably be willing to reprise the role if she could (she's also said many times that she has no problem with the prospect of returning for older roles as long as scheduling allows her to commit to it).

Yep, BS Fire Emblem. Pretty obscure. I think that's one of the few Satellaview games that still gets acknowledged. Inoue being brought back for this and Echoes and its maps being remade in New Mystery of the Emblem.

@doodlebugfour Good ideas. I think I might suggest some more as well, just because several of the characters I've mentioned have gotten casted, (note, this is going to be quite diffrent from yours)
Lyon (SS)- Kyle Mccarley (for reasons involving Nier)
Lucia (POR)- Brina Palencina
Finn (GOTHW)- Sean Schummel
Lute (SS)- Faye Mata (but Michelle Ruff is a nice headcanon voice as well)
Mareeta (GOTHW)- Morgan Berry (not going to happen, but it would be super cool to see)
Sothe (RD)- Erik Krimer
Joshua (SS)- Derek Stephen Prince (Yes, I am well aware that is an odd one, but if Elincia can have a rough voice, who says that Joshua's voice cant be somewhat soft? But J Michael Tatum would be a good fit as well)
Lyre (RD)- Christine Marie Cabanos
Jake (several games)- Patrick Setiz
Ethlyn (GOTHW)- Dorothy Fahn
Venessa (SS)- Natalie Hoover
Ishtar (GOTHW)- Kira Buckland
Marisa (SS)- Alexis Tipton
Lewyn (GOTHW)- Chris Teliafera
Karla (BB)- Caitilin Glass
I wonder if I should create a forum for Fire Emblem dream casts. It could be interesting, but then again I only make fancastings so I can learn more about the older characters.

I think one major upside to having multiple Fire Emblem games, depending on who the voice director is, they can bring in people that you wouldn't expect to be in this game. In the case of Kris Zimmerman Salter, she was able to bring in Elizabeth Daily which was so unexpected. I like it when they do that.

Also the fact that there can be new voice compare's that can be made from this. Which I find most intriguing.

I hope Kris Zimmerman is the one doing FE Switch. Since Cup of Tea got to do this, Echoes, and presumably Warriors, I think the timing seems right for the pendulum to swing back to her side of the court.

I haven't seen her direct any games since Fates, so it'd be nice to see her back for Switch. If Nintendo hands the game over to Formosa we could also see James Mortellaro in the directors seat.

I'm just worried that the game could be affected by the strike if it's done at Formosa.
NCZ (Admin)

@BlueHeracross

If they go non-union again there shouldn't be an issue, I don't think. If they wanted to unionize it and go with Formosa that's where trouble would start to set in.

Jamie Mortellaro... Hmm. Part of it was probably also on the writing (since the voiced dialogue in general was a bit flat) and that they had most of the actors affect English-ish accents, but I felt like at the end of the day BOTW's English dub was passable for the most part. I was hopeful for it and it got the job done, it just didn't blow me away as much as some other things. Of course like I said, there's probably a variety of factors that led to that. But that's true, Formosa does have a few directors they could end up using if Zimmerman is working on something else. I wonder what she has up her sleeve, now that you mention it.

@NCZ I would love to see Zimmerman return (especially since I imagine FE Switch will feature extensive voice acting) but I'm a bit concerned that the mixed reaction to various aspects of Fates' localization might keep Nintendo from enlisting the team tied to that game. It'd be a shame if that ended up being the case. While a couple of localization choices irritated me (Jakob's "mean cup of joe" in his C support with Kana, Saizo ending a sentence in the Mitama paralogue with ",man!", and someone already brought up the unnecessary Saizo Beruka support change), the quality of the voice over was by and large really strong,. However, I'm still admittedly a bit cynical they'll go back to that studio.

@ScottMyers I mean, they did still have Treehouse do Heroes (Which is on-going) and I assume are the ones doing Warriors as well. But yeah I'd like to see her return for FE Switch as well.

Funny thing, this is kinda unrelated but I also remember finding Edgeworth ending one of his sentences with "man!" a bit odd as well back in the day haha.
ScottMyers
said at 9:16 AM on Sun Jul 23 2017
@HylianBelmont That's fair. I just feel like since some of the complaints crept into the voice production as well, it might influence Nintendo's decision making on that matter. Although it's entirely possible that Nintendo will look at the bottom line (extremely well-received by critics, high sales-number, an overall positive reaction from players), and not let that influence their decision making. It's the uncertain nature of it that makes me cautious.

@ScottMyers Most people who didn't judge the game's VO on one or two lines of dialogue seemed to enjoy the game's voice work overall as well I believe. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens I suppose.

Hmm, so you think is this game in general recorded waaaay in advance? Cause Palla and Camus (who were in at launch) have different VAs in Echoes. I guess it makes sense if they recorded all the extra Echoes characters when they recorded Echoes though.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 7:02 PM on Thu Jul 13 2017
@SNaG

That's a funny subject. I actually think there were a few recording sessions for the game, and you can basically try and guesstimate when stuff would have been recorded just by examining patterns in DLC casting choices, and even looking at the two other FE games for this year.

First -

BASE GAME + BLAZING SHADOWS (Binding Blade characters Karel through Ninian):

This one is simple enough. The base game would have been recorded in mid-2016. Sometime around fall is when Sarah Blandy listed a Nintendo game on her resume, so a bit before makes sense logistically, considering the release schedule. Note also that FE Heroes was supposed to release before the end of last year, but got bumped back to make room for Super Mario Run (which Nintendo thought would be a better mainstream followup to Pokemon Go). So sometime around summer 2016, ending around September to record would make sense.

I believe that the Blazing Shadows characters were recorded at the same time. You'll note that the Echoes characters, and some of the other post-launch people like the various Genealogy/Thracia characters are all voiced by new VAs who weren't in the base game. However, the Binding Blade six are all voiced by people who already were in the base game, and for most of them rounds out their roles to a full 3.

Following up on that point, here are all the recording sessions that I believe would have happened post-launch.

ECHOES OF MYSTERY (New Mystery of the Emblem) + FAMILY BONDS and SIBLING BONDS (Sacred Stones, Genealogy/Thracia, Sanaki)

This one is clear-cut. Kira Buckland, Greg Chun, Christian La Monte, Edward Bosco, Cristina Vee, Cassandra Lee, Erin Fitzgerald, and Chris Smith exclusively voice characters from these packs. There is no overlap between this group of VAs and any other set (EXCEPT Greg Chun) or the base game. Clarisse and Legion might've been recorded around the same time.

The rest gets trickier, but they all clearly occurred after the base game.

Spring/Summer/Bride Festivals + WORLD OF RADIANCE + ECHOES CHARACTERS

This is where I think more overlap started taking place. This session I definitely think happened in the same timeframe as Warriors, and there *may* have been some overlap with Echoes itself (DEFINITELY its Heroes characters). Note that both the Heroes events and Warriors involve previous characters plus their VAs coming back. Between these events and Warriors, we have Matt Mercer, David Stanbra, Kyle Hebert come back, and Alexis Tipton take over as Lucina. Since the overall casting, and which VAs reprised roles for both games is similar, I think they might have been done around the same time. Also note that Brianna voicing Charlotte here gives her four characters, one more than she originally would have been cast in for the base game, so that plus Laura losing Lucina shows that this would have all been done after Heroes itself.

Finally we have the Radiant characters. I believe this must have been around the same time too. Note Misty Lee pops up there and in the Spring Festival. Also note the presence of Greg Chun and Kyle McCarley. This creates overlap with the additions of Alm and Lukas to Heroes and may suggest that Echoes (or at least its characters in Heroes) were done around the same time. Since Echoes' characters are cast identically between the game itself and Heroes, and the circumstantial link with the Radiant people, it seems like it could be possible, but I can't prove it. It would make sense if it was done around the same time as Warriors since that ties things up nicely, but I'm not 100% sure if that's where it fits. It's also entirely possible they just had the Echoes cast members handy because they were working on another Cup of Tea game around the same time. There's so much overlap between Cup of Tea game casts that it would make sense as well.

The one oddity between Echoes and Heroes is that Keith Silverstein is credited under a pseudonym in the former name and not the latter.

tl;dr For FE Heroes itself, there were at least three major sessions.

1. Base game + Blazing Shadows

2. Family Bonds + Sibling Bonds + Echoes of Mystery

3. Spring/Summer/Bride events + World of Radiance + (possibly) Echoes characters

You can try to work Warriors and Echoes themselves into this schedule but that's where it gets harder to figure out. We'll have to see once Warriors is out and has a cast list of its own. And of course, Heroes will keep getting new characters added which can shed further light on things.

Anyway, that's it laid out to the best of my ability. I'm just a layman observing the trends and patterns here and don't have any sort of inside knowledge so this is all just an estimate.

Dang, my mundane question generated such an excellent answer, thanks! Yeah, it's theory but it's definitely a good theory based on some solid evidence. Makes sense for a VA to record for multiple characters if possible too.

Actually, I remember Kira Buckland tweeting how her other character was out when the New Mystery expansion was released, which is weird wording unless she knew in advance, so that lines up with your theory about Echoes of Mystery and Family Bonds being released at the same time.

Sarah Williams seems to be a kind of outlier in this, but who knows, maybe she recorded Mist along with Nier? Just further speculation haha.

Well get don't get used to the voice acting for some of the old characters because their not coming back for warriors. Seriously. It was just confirmed by Nintendo that only characters from Fates, Awakening and Shadow Dragon will be used to try and reduce the number of sword users (even though they made three new characters that all use swords).
NCZ (Admin)
said at 12:59 PM on Tue May 30 2017
@Soul-dragon

That's not entirely accurate. Warriors' roster will primarily focus on those games, that is true. But

A - That does not mean it will solely feature them
B - It does not rule out DLC down the road (e.g. Hyrule Warriors only drew from three games before its DLC)
C - They said the reason they don't want to use every main protagonist is because it would lead to too many sword users. You have this point conflated with the other here.

All that said I think it's a silly decision. I wasn't a fan of TMS limiting itself to SD and Awakening either. But you have some wires crossed here.

Looking forward to seeing more of the Gaiden/SOV characters as we get closer to release (I'm running with the assumption that the cast here will be the same actors who play them as Echoes, but I see little reason to doubt this and future updates featuring Echoes characters would have different actors).

I'd imagine it will be. Hyrule Warriors wasn't dubbed since they didn't want to break Zelda's then-tradition of not having full VO (beyond the narrator). FE Warriors doesn't have that restriction, plus every main game in the series has been dubbed.
Swiftie Muggle
said at 8:47 PM on Sun Mar 19 2017
@NCZ One never knows considering that the Warriors titles are a series handled by Koei (now known as Tecmo Koei because they partner with Tecmo) and those games always have a Japanese Voice over before they decide to do it overseas and many of the ''Dynasty'' games have been JP exclusives in the recent years. In the case of FE however, it should not be a problem though because the series is originally by Nintendo + the fact that there's a considerable consistency in the English cast , at least for the most ''recognized'' characters such as Chrom , Lucina etc.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 8:55 PM on Sun Mar 19 2017
@Swiftie Muggle

Right, the fact that it's Nintendo backing this plus a well-known IP means there's probably more budget to spare for that sort of thing, and potential returns to justify it. Unfortunately the self-published Warriors games and the anime licensed ones can't always have the same thing said about that, but the ones attached to well-known games (e.g. Dragon Quest) are a different story. Hyrule Warriors also sold very well so I'm sure at the end of the day FE specifically will be fine.

@Webmike1 They'll be interesting to see honestly. Especially considering that some of the Fates siblings that had to be recasted have some pretty good replacements! @Sentinel07 After listening to both Hinoka and Peri's voice clips in Heroes. I agree that, in comparison to the others, they're probably the weakest out of the replacement voices sadly. But I don't think they're outright terrible at the same time though.

@Sentinel07 @HylianBelmont I haven't heard much of her Hinoka, but Cindy Robinson is sooo good as Peri! Squeaky I guess is one way of saying it, but it's such a hilarious take and so overly cutesy and funny sounding despite the dark **** Peri says so I just love how it sounds. Hell, I find myself using Peri just to hear the voice that's how much I like it.

If there's one thing that's nuts about the recent FE dubs, it's that even after they have such massive casts, they keep managing to bring in people from the talent pool who're completely new to the series, as well as making creative use of the VAs they already have handy. It's super staggering.
FUNiman
said at 7:38 PM on Fri Feb 3 2017
@NCZ Extra odd considering this series barely has any actual cutscenes to voice in and it's mostly just little repeated soundbites. That's kinda why I assumed they'd at least skimp on this game's VO but nope. They take this series very seriously.

@NCZ it's weird to think some of the actors all over the place are now just joining, like Cherami Leigh. And then there's still plenty of regulars in the LA dubbing world from the last like 5 years who have yet to pop-up in the series despite the number of characters.
Makes me interested in the cast for Echoes.
huzaifa_ahmed
said at 9:09 PM on Thu Feb 9 2017
@Unknownsage13 The only thing cooler than the current dubs (without spending for the "big cheese", so to speak) would be using Texas VAs. I love how Namco Bandai & Patrick Seitz did that for a few recent dubs. PCB is a wonderful studio, but they really gotta diversify if they want to truly be better than more boutique dubbing studios like Bang Zoom or Cup of Tea. New Generation Pictures would be a great studio to do dubs for future Fire Emblem games.
Unknownsage13
said at 2:01 AM on Tue Feb 14 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed agreed. There are a ton of experienced Texas VAs that for various reasons never travel to LA for projects. Would be great if we had more Borderlands/Battleborn situations where we used that talent pool.

Like looking at the cast of Akiba's Beat. It's crazy to think it took this long for Brittany Karbowski to be in a video game. And then tons of other experienced actors there that have only done Dragonball games.
ScraftyIsTheBest
said at 6:04 PM on Thu Mar 2 2017
@FUNiman @NCZ @HylianBelmont

Yeah, and it really shows. Despite the series having relatively small amounts of voice acting, with such little amounts of VO they manage to imbue A LOT of personality into the characters. The VAs all really bring the characters to life with just the soundbites and the few lines that are actually voiced, and the experience is just that much livelier. It's really awesome. Some of the VAs also really managed to make strong use of their range here too, and the talent pool is quite varied, which is also great.

The FE dubs are really great despite not being fully VAed for those reasons, and they're also really memorable as such too!

Honestly, seeing E.G. Daily, Roger Rose, and Paula Tiso not return isn't a shock, given that they're Union actors. Liam O'Brien isn't too much of a surprise either because he's been having some roles recasted of late.

Now, Gideon Emery not returning is a REAL shock! I wonder what kept him out.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 7:36 AM on Fri Feb 3 2017
@Sentinel07

Honestly I have a feeling those VAs mainly did Fates because it was Kris Zimmerman directing. Obviously I'm sure unions played a part in things as well but it's easy to do a solid for, or take an opportunity to work with a director you're familiar with, like, and work well with.

Not sure on Gideon Emery specifically but he's generally pretty busy not just with VO but live-action or motion capture stuff too. Wouldn't be surprised if there's something already out or upcoming that conflicted with it.
NCZ (Admin)

Now that I think of it, since none of Gideon Emery's characters are in the game, it also might have just been more cost/time-efficient to go with Ray Chase since he was already in the cast.

Ironically, The Other Darrins aren't bothering me as much as some of the actors chosen to play the new characters. For instance, Ray Chase seems like an actor who's voice sounds lower, like an older teenager, rather than the young character Roy is. And Bryce Papenbrook sounds like a bad choice for the intense, angst-ridden Raven, who I imagine with a voice closer to Jason Griffith's. There's always the chance they'll surprise me, though.

@HylianBelmont It's one of those castings which off the bat might not quite seem appropriate given what we're used to, but I imagine he'll do a pretty good job. That said...Ray has been a major character in a slew of dubs recently, & since Roy is a legacy character & a youthful-sounding one too, I figured someone like JYB (notice he hasn't been in a whole bunch of recent game dubs) would've been really good.

Although with that said, a good recent example of a pretty different voice still doing well with the character, would be Lex Lang as Goku.

@DeathGod46 Nope, I think his music makes more money. The ratio of agency:profits I think might be better. As a musician, you can decide more of your own stuff. & (I'm presuming here) that JYB's skill at this profession is more lucrative than his VO stuff. I like his work, but again, English dubs are pretty small projects because we don't really value or demand imports too much. Canada makes less stuff than US, so they generally need more entertainment imported - thus the rates being high enough to bring in a ton of cartoon actors.

Yeah, it does sound like they're trying to take that approach. I guess that's the thing, when you have a VA playing multiple characters in a crossover it throws things off a bit. JYB and Yuri Lowenthal had to shake up their Persona roles when they met in the later spinoffs and anime (or for JYB, when Yu started having actual lines). I dunno, personally I think it's cool that they keep Matt around instead of recasting him entirely. That wouldn't really be right since it is his character. Keeping the original VA but getting them to shake things up a bit is probably the logical way to handle this type of situation.

I guess other VAs who've played multiple characters might also have something like that happen (e.g. Travis Willingham, who's now picked up Ogma in addition to Lon'qu - and potentially Garon or Brady).

@NCZ Agreed! I was actually happy they kept Yuri Lowenthal and JYB as those respective characters for similar reasons really.

I think Travis may have to raise the pitch of his Lon'qu voice a little bit. His "Be Silent!" actually sounded a fair bit higher than it did in Awakening. Although that may just have been my ears playing tricks on me IDK.

Speaking of Matt it's kind of a bummer the lack of kid characters means no Shigure. That's my favourite of his FE roles.

@NCZ I've been playing through Heirs of Fate. And I'm about to start the last map... And honestly? I think it's my favourite FE role of his now too. The man freaking nailed the singing IMO.

@HylianBelmont

Yeah, no kidding. I still remember being surprised (pleasantly) to find out that was him. I love when we get to see/hear sides of VAs we don't normally get too often. Very gentle and soothing singing, it was.
Speaking of which, his Ryoma really grew on me to the point I feel like I prefer it to his Chrom. I know it's more-or-less the same voice, but I liked the moments of intensity Ryoma got.

@NCZ I'd say I like his Chrom and Ryoma performances about equally... Except maybe I prefer his Ryoma slightly now, if only for more intense moments, and the final cutscene in Birthright.

@Soul-dragon You can hear her in the video that NCZ posted, and it does sound like Laura Bailey yeah. Takumi still sounds like Roger Rose too as well I think.

@AmericanBuizel Oh wait. I made a mistake in my previous comment it would seem. I myself was actually referring to this one! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AWOcLSD_D1I

You can definitely tell that it's still Laura, and Takumi's "die already!" still sounds like Roger Rose.

What's wrong with me...I don't even care for mobile games but I'm tempted to get heroes just to hear Kaiji Tang's Narcian.

cool to think so many characters from non-voice acted FF games will have a voice now. Though at the same time. Weird how we have situations like Yuri's Marth or Lani's Lyn. Where they never actually voiced the characters in their main games, and yet have basically become the official voices. (Same situation with FF and other long running franchises)

@NCZ I'm pretty sure they might got Lani Minella to voice Lyn along with Rolf, Micahia, and Mia and the other casts from Tellius series since they did get Jason Adkins returned for Ike and got Laura for Male Kanna in Fates.

@NCZ Ah kinda bummed they switched out Lani. Though I guess they wanted to go with someone younger sounding (in Japanese version she's 16).

Hmm... I can't tell if it's Wendee Lee or Mela Lee. I need to hear more.

@Unknownsage13 I'm just hoping they get her back for Micaiah though. Although I wouldn't be surprised if she got recast at the same time...

Yeah it sounds like it's going to be either one of those two playing Lyn I think. And personally I'd be rather happy with either of them as the character!

Fun fact: The reason the narrator was hoping to get Lon'qu (and then also became excited when he got Navarre at the end) is because the Japanese version of the Direct was narrated by Takehito Koyasu.

I'm impressed they took the time to revoice things, meaning actually getting back the voice actors just for a mobile game. Didn't expect Narcian to have such a deep voice. Picture something like Tood doing his ''smug'' voice for him.

I feel like Fire Emblem is Nintendo's most mobile friendly series and this should be a good time waster.

Nintendo giving every character a voice is really going above and beyond other games of this ilk. Two thumbs up for that decision.
