Now... Should I clean the trash of the universe?

@CelestialOuroboros So I hear that phrase often around here (maybe I'm paranoid?), & I'm just wondering...what in particular is interesting about that quote?
Replysaid at 8:31 PM on Sat Apr 22 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed It's a reference to one of Piccolo's lines in this game. Just Saiyan
Replysaid at 8:41 PM on Sat Apr 22 2017
@CelestialOuroboros Oh, I know that. Just I'm not sure what makes it so...memetic?
Replysaid at 9:55 AM on Tue May 2 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed It's not so much the line itself, but rather the delivery that makes said phrase quotable as it is. This game has a ton of memorable quotes spoken by the characters, albeit memorable due to how weak the voice work is; even by 90s standards, Final Bout's acting is simply corny af - and not the good kind either.
However, I do think Lex Lang's Gohan and Jonathan Cook's Perfect Cell are relatively decent (keyword is "relatively"). Given much better direction to work with, they'd be solid in their respective roles. Same goes to Brianne Siddall's Kid Goku.

@CelestialOuroboros Well, I think some of these actors are more appropriate tonally than FUNi's "choices"; overall obviously considering Bandai Namco's lack of contact (still way better than Toei's), & short scheduling/lack of time to get into these characters, it's generally not a good dub, yes. However I liked that Milton James sounded regal unlike Saban/FUNi adaptation back then, plus Piccolo sounds much less of a brute than FUNi made him. Kevin Seymour also was...not an actor, but at least fitting for Freeza as the first male English VA he had. I feel as if people don't appreciate these little nods to the original as much. Even the Harmony Gold dub was objectively more accurate than FUNi's.
(I also think Skip Stellrecht delivered a an actual generally good performance actually, probably the most coherent & energetic performance in the whole FB dub tbh.)

@huzaifa_ahmed Milton James' Vegeta, as regal as he sounds in the role when compared to Chris Sabat's earlier performances and Brian Drummond's overall rendition, is also real prissy to the point where I can't take anything that comes out of his mouth seriously. Similar to what was spoken about Siddall, he'd be better under more competent and cautious direction tbh. Kevin Seymour definitely has the honor of being Frieza's first male English VA and also shows *some* promise here and there; he's less grating than Linda Young and Jennifer Bain's portrayals in hindsight at least.
As for Skip Stellrecht... meh. I don't feel and hear much of anything from his Trunks except Ryu whom - for the record - Skip was a superior fit for. Now don't misunderstand: he's not the absolute worst regarding the quality of this dub, but to say he gives one of the more bearable takes is an overstatement IMO.
The worst examples of the FB dub? {inhale} Lia Sargent's Pan is too high and whiny when put next to Yuko Minaguchi's version (who sounded real girlish to begin with), Steve Blum's Goku is pretty much awkward to listen to top to bottom, Kid Buu's Mickey Mouse, and Baby...
"Heh heh. K-k-k-k... Use your brains and think. Do you think you can DEFEAT MEEEEE!?"
I'll leave him at that. This is probably gonna be one of the longest posts I make on the site. Real sorry.

@CelestialOuroboros I can't see Milton James being great as Vegeta under better voice direction. Siddall would be great, but Milton James? His voice just doesn't sound right for someone like Vegeta. Sounds too old and prissy for the role. I don't think I could have taken Vegeta seriously if James had voiced him in an Animaze dub. Steve Blum would have been a million times better than him.
I have to agree with you when it comes to Lia's Pan, Steve's Goku, Joe's Baby and whoever voiced Kid Buu.

I really wonder who directed this dub. I'm guessing it's Kevin Seymour who owned the studio & had regular contact with Bandai? Plus, he spoke Japanese & I reckon that'd help maintaining the story of a Japanese script & direction.
Replysaid at 7:50 PM on Thu Apr 20 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed Kevin Seymour didn't do any acting outside of his own projects during this time. He pretty much has to have directed this.
Replysaid at 8:12 PM on Thu Apr 20 2017
@Nightmare Crusher Well, then it's a shame it seems to have been a rush job. Seymour I dont think ever did anything wrong on a dub.
Replysaid at 8:18 PM on Thu Apr 20 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed I dunno. Kevin Seymour at his best was an incredible director, but I can think of a couple rough patches on his resume besides this one. Either way, I don't think he had a chance on this one. Even Dragon Ball games as recent as Xenoverse provide poor resources for the English dub.
Replysaid at 10:37 PM on Tue Jan 10 2017
I reckon they should redub this game. Just for laughs. But have them voiced by actors prominently heard in video games & western animation.
Replysaid at 1:21 PM on Wed Jan 11 2017
@Shaun Ince Funi has a stranglehold on Dragon Ball as far as American distribution is concerned, so an LA cast like this is never going to happen today.
Replysaid at 7:47 PM on Thu Apr 20 2017
@CatsTuxedo What exactly do you mean by stranglehold?

These voices are the only good thing to come out of GT.

If I chose the actors, I would chose the following including LA actors(with only of the Funimation dub):
Goku(Sean Schemmel)
Gohan(Lex Lang/Kyle Hebert)
Trunks(Quinton Flynn)
Frieza(Seth Green)
Cell(Dameon Clarke/Travis Willingham)
Piccolo(Nick Landis)
Vegeta(Christopher Sabat)
Kid Goku(Stephanie Nadolny)
Pan(Lacey Chabert)
Kid Buu(Dino Andrade)
Vegito(Sean Schemmel/Chris Sabat)
Baby Vegeta(Vic Mignogna)
If anybody has a wish list using some LA actors and some Funimation actors, post right away.

@TrueMyriad "Nick Landis"
I'm pretty sure he lives in Minnesota, at least that's what his blog says.

One of the first game I ever tried, although it was the Japanese version
I actually like Gohan's voice even though some of the others like Pan in particular aren't very good

As bad as this game was, it will always hold a special place in my heart for being the very first DBZ game I ever played. :)
Replysaid at 7:16 PM on Fri Mar 2 2012
Despite the bad acting, I thought this was a really fun fighting game and given that I wanted it for years, I was so glad when I got the rereleased version.
But that said I don't really play it much anymore, I guess its more fun with multiple players and the secret characters than it is just playing by yourself.

Oh my gosh...What is wrong with these voices? All these guys are talented voice actors, so why the heck do they sound crappy?!
Replysaid at 9:42 AM on Sun Feb 12 2012
@Madness Abe I'd probably blame the voice director, if anything... {shrugs}
Replysaid at 10:58 PM on Sat Jan 5 2013
@Madness Abe It's probably because they had nothing to work with. They were probably just given the scripts with nothing to go on except for a character sprite. And the director probably knew even less about DB then they did. It could have also been rushed not giving them any time to rehearse.

Plus this game did start a lot of things that the Budokai series would later use.
