@HienFan
Yeah, that is pretty much the story in a nutshell.
Though if I could defend this game a bit is the gameplay is actually pretty well done.

@Music Meister Yay let's see our hero go into the trailer with some women and then wake up without any clothes to face this woman who sent him to the underworld and his clothes are flying about and he puts it all on stylishly jumping about while objects censor the worst parts, how cool is dat?

 4 Shout Outs!
After hearing Dante say "What in the shitting hell was that?" and hearing Vergil claim "I've also got a bigger dick," I realized that this game sounds like a Judd Apatow film.
It sounds like it was written to appeal to the Facebook generation. There is no attempt at any character development, and the characters just constantly swear and never have anything interesting to say.
Not to mention, the voice actors for Dante and Vergil are terrible. Even with the new designs (and the fact that Dante's appearance is meant to resemble his actor) the voices don't fit the characters in the slightest, and even if they DID fit the characters, the actors don't try to convey ANY emotions or make the player feel ANY connection whatsoever. There is nothing but nonstop monotone dialogue between these two, even during the more "intense" scenes.
The new Dante is disgusting looking. I'm not bitching about his hair color. He's just really unsightly. Dante is supposed to be cut. Not "ripped" necessarily, but physically fit. The new Dante looks like he's never even heard of food.
And I'm fairly certain that this was added to intentionally piss off the fans of the original series, but Vergil DOES NOT use guns.
SPOILER ALERT! Vergil is the bad guy. Big surprise. It's seriously very annoying that they tried to "surprise" us at the end. Despite all the very significant and (usually) very bad changes they've made, Vergil will NEVER be the good guy.
So, the lead voice actors are terrible, the lead characters have lost ALL likability they had going for them in the original series, Dante and Vergil's designs suck, and the dialogue sucks.
So you may be asking. Is there ANYTHING I like about this game.
Well, yes actually.
The gameplay is very good. It's actually similar to how I wish the earlier Devil May Cry games would have been. I always hated the fixed camera angles and the cramped environment. DmC allows for more space to land some good combos and kick some serious ass.
The story, while trying too hard at some points, is not the worst. I kind of like the idea of Mundus posing as a power hungry dictator, and the world of Limbo within the real world.
That being said, Kat is cool. I like her WAY more than Trish, but I like Lady a tiny bit better. Still, she was a great addition in my opinion.
Some of the enemies were alright. The Bob Barbas boss battle is awesome.
The Succubus battle was kind of lame. It was really nothing more than a shit-talking battle. A little funny though, I guess.
The baby battle was... unsettling, to say the least.
All in all, this game was okay. I just think the characters were WAY too bland and the lead voice actors DEFINITELY need to be replaced if they ever make a sequel. Maybe I'm being too critical of them, but I can't get over how bad they are. Especially considering that they play THE MAIN CHARACTERS for God's sake.
But the gameplay itself is good.
As much as I'd like to rate it lower, I will be fair and take all things into consideration, and I will give it a 3/5.

@RenoRebirth I think the idea of the cursing and miscellaneous vulgar speech was really there to show how much Dante had changed over time. I myself am not one for foul language, but I thought it made the game entertaining, and I thought it fit well with the characters' personalities. I also think you're being too hard on the voice actors. I understand that you may have a different perspective, seeing as (if I understand your profile correctly) you are one yourself, but I loved Dante's voice acting - he's the reason I came here to check out who the actor was. I never had a monotone feeling about him. Vergil seemed very monotonous in his speech, but I think his character allowed for that, and while it may not have been the best job, I never stopped and thought "wow, what an awkward voice actor" while listening to him.
Being new to the series, I thought the characters fit their roles well as is. I don't think the idea of the game was to say that Vergil was a good guy, just to say that he at one point had good intentions (if you haven't played the Vergil's Downfall DLC, it elaborates on how he became completely corrupt after the events of DmC). One more thing I'll add is that it didn't seem to me like the idea was to surprise players when Vergil turned out not to be one of the good guys. When I saw it (although I was a bit surprised, since i was not familiar with the series) i was thinking more about how surprising it was to Kat and Dante. The game would seem ridiculous if they just blew it off like they saw it coming all along. just my two cents. Your opinions are still valid, I just thought I'd share my perspective as well.

@XtremeHairball I agree to an extent. Maybe I was a bit harsh on the voice actors. But I honestly laughed during the final battle. The grunts and battle cries between them were pathetic.
It makes sense for somebody that is new to the series to feel that way, and in all honesty, the Devil May Cry series as a whole is a tiny bit underwhelming.
The first game is kind of boring and you never really seem to go anywhere. The second game has the worst story of all of them and is incredibly boring. The third game has the best story in my opinion, and introduces Vergil. The only problem I see with the game is that it's one of the hardest games I've ever played. I don't remember much about Devil May Cry 4, but I recall I enjoyed it.
As much as it seems like I hate the series with all that I just said, I actually like it for what it's worth. It had a good formula, Capcom just didn't know how to administer it. But rebooting the entire series (especially the way they chose to) was a bad move. At least in my opinion.
DmC does NOT show Dante changing over time, however. It's not even the same Dante. There is no CHANGE exactly. It's just a completely different character.
But to be fair, he's pretty much a different character in every game, so there is that.
Yes, for someone new to the series, it is understandable that you might find my opinions a bit harsh.

Okay, forget about the game from the way it looks and look at it gameplay wise. It's pretty damn good.

I played the game and while I haven't played the orignal series this game was fun. Gameplay and level design were done well...everything else wasn't. It's one of those games that yells "LOOK HOW DARK WE ARE, WE'RE EDGEY!" A lot of the characters aren't all that rememberable and the voice acting from most most are generic, no one is really all that rememerbale.
Still, the combo system just feels right, able to change weapons and each weapon is different in many ways. A lot of games will have one weapon seem mroe pwoerful but all the weapons have their stregnth and weaknesses. A lot of level designs are really nice to look at, espcially the Fox News parody level and Lilith's Club level.
It's a good game if you don't mind annoying/generic characters and times where the games yells at you that it's "dark and edgey"

So much butthurt going on here. I feel like I'm the only fan of the series here who's going to give this game a chance. All of you are just pissed off because of Dante's redesign.

@LordofEvil96 It's more than just the redesign. The whole game tries WAAAAY too hard to be "edgy" and "mature", with bland "realistic" graphics, a tryhard "gritty" storyline and characters that seems like something a 12-year-old would find cool (think Shadow the Hedgehog, but M-rated), an overly-excessive amount of swearing and violence, you get the idea. It's downright embarrassing. Also, the fact that Capcom is currently one of the worst companies in gaming does not help. Compare it to its main competitor, Metal Gear Rising, which shows promising gameplay, adds change while staying true to the series, and is developed by the beloved Platinum Games. As UltimateCharm said, ultimately DmC is a mediocre game made worse by the fact that it tries to pass itself off as Devil May Cry.

@LordofEvil96 Not only that, I heard that the creator of DmC didn't even like the original games that much. This was probably just a generic grimdark game that got Devil May Cry's name slapped on it for marketing. I've never even played a DMC game and I think this is stupid.

I saw clips and game footage of DMC and... I don't know. It seems run-of-the-mill to me. There doesn't seem to be any, how you say, "Wow" moments that make me want to stand up, throw dollars and the screen and scream "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" In other words, it looks mediocre.

I'm surprised Capcom didn't charge us extra on-disc DLC to access the code to see the BTVA DmC page. :P

@D.A.V.E. Odds are, the next time we do something for the Mega Man franchise on the site, Capcom sends us a cease-and-desist.

Stay tuned for the Activision and EA-published DmC 2: #YoloYoloSwag Edition, featuring a story by Stephenie Meyer and soundtrack by Nickelback, with Dante voiced by and modelled after Nicolas Cage. Also, Dante will wear Crocs and use Internet Explorer to visit 9gag, his favourite website.

@NCZ Late response I know, but with a game like this, I'd expect a soundtrack from Linkin Park sooner than Nickelback.
