Wait, are people legitimately upset that they didn’t cast DeVito as Pikachu? It was a funny concept, but getting him on a Hollywood movie nowadays is expensive - on a presumably non-union game dub he’s a pipe dream.

Considering how much Pikachu sounds like Kaiji Tang, it seems like we’re looking at another LA dub. And in my humble opinion, it’s currently more on par with Origins’ dub than Generations’. Make sense, since they’ve had about two years to work on it.

This is what happens when people take jokes too far.

@technickal Not to mention he literally has no clue what Pokémon is so it would have been written down as an absolute miscast.

@RetroPokeFan How does not knowing what Pokémon is make it a miscast

@technickal OMG are people actually mad about that?

Just wait a bit more, guys. Y'all will get your English dub of the game soon. Good news just keep coming!!!!!

@MizukaS But it could be LA made? Or even from New York?

Might be a UK dub for all we know. There was another Pokemon game that got an European only release, and it was the typing game for the DS.

@MizukaS Oh yeah, forgot to read the Eurogamer part. XD

So since Ultra Sun & Moon is the final Pokémon game for 3DS I guess that means this is never EVER seeing a proper translation now is it?

Gee, I hope that ain't the case. I'd say port it to the Switch, get it dubbed, and make it happen. It's too unique to pass up on.

Looks like 2003 Roy Mustang has went on to be Pikachu to a bunch of vaguely freaky looking humans

Danny DeVito, please.

@TeridaxXD001 ...and he's refusing.

Also, kind of weird how only one of these characters has a Japanese name.

@TeridaxXD001 get his vocal stand-in Robert Costanzo on board then

Honestly, I totally don't see Danny nailing the role at all. Just because you extract several of Danny's clips and plaster them onto the Detective Pikachu trailer, that doesn't mean it fits. It's a meme at best. I just don't think the voice fits. There's also the factor that Danny doesn't even know what Pokemon is, and doesn't seem interested. The fact that he didn't reprise for Phil in the Kingdom Hearts games, despite the fact that KH is a VERY high profile franchise, shows even less of a chance of him appearing in a Pokemon spinoff game, which does not even have an Eng release date at this time.

Kirk Thornton would be my pick for Detective Pikachu. Games are usually dubbed in LA, and he seems to be a realistic choice if the game is getting dubbed. Plus, Kirk is constantly providing voices for dubs; games and anime.

@MizukaS The Kingdom Hearts games don`t get every reprisal even people like Miguell ferrer to repise Shan Yu despite the fact that he was known to dabble in voiceover at the time.

In most superhero movies most of the actors casted are not aware of who the character is. e.g Alfred Molina was not aware of Doc Ock when he was casted and now people really praise his potrayl of the character.

I know not everyone from the Disney movies reprised their roles in KH games. But for those that didn't, they at least got 90% identical soundalikes for them, so that's excellent. Seeing as this is not a KH thread, ping me in the KH3 thread if you have anything else to add.

I'm now kind of worried they're going to use the English speaking actors in Japan for this dub now...assuming it gets one.

@Autovolt I don't understand how they can announce an American movie based in this game without announcing an American release OF the game.

@TeridaxXD001 It's a little bit like how they can release an American CGI movie without dubbing the FFXV anime - different markets, different priorities.

@huzaifa_ahmed Here's hoping it gets released, anyway.

Here's a few corrections.

1) The FFXV CGI movie was produced in Japan. It's not American made.

2) FF has always been made for the Japanese market. It's got nothing to do with priorities or whatever. FF has always had a big Western demand, and that's a fact.

Going to back to this game... yeah, gonna have to take Teridax's side on this one. It's ridiculous how there's resources to spend on a live action adaption (which is probably gonna be pretty bad like most other live action adaptions on anime), but not on an actual localization of the game.

But if it's getting a dub, I highly doubt we have to worry about expats voicing them. That pool has never touched a single Pokemon entry. It's likely to be dubbed by either LA or NY VAs.
