Horrible acting in Japanese. No excuse, considering this show has perhaps the best Japanese VAs in any show. HOW can such a cast phone in like that?

In Japan, Transformers targets a younger audience than it does in the west. Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Animated, and Prime were all toned down greatly to remove a lot of the dark elements and replace them with screwball comedy.

@NCZ I understand, but still, it's such a shame that the best of the best VAs weren't as good as they should have been.

@AntiSabat666 Yeah it's a shame what they did with Beast Wars in Japan. I mean Beast Wars had its fair share of goofy moments but it was also rather serious and mature when it needed to be so taking that away and just making it goofier is kind of sad.

I agree the cast was talented. I mean Takehito Koyasu as Optimus Primal, that is such a good idea, if he played him a little more seriously. it'd be perfect. Shigeru Chiba was no doubt miscast as Megatron, that should have been Norio Wakamoto instead, maybe even Kenyu Horiuchi could have worked?

Transformers Animated has a surprisingly good Japanese dub even with the goofy ad-libbing, it's probably the closest to sounding and feeling like the show in English all things considered. It has the most hot blooded Transformers opening ever courtesy of the JAM Project.

Transformers Prime's Japanese dub....it has some good performances but umm wow....Yandere Love Dovey Airachnid that is all. XD.

Although the animation hasn't held up the best (though, gosh, it's nearly two decades old, so I cut it some slack), I cannot believe how well the STORY and CHARACTERS have held up.

I often re-watch clips of it on Youtube, and although they're scenes I've seen dozens of times, each time is like new. I enjoy the voice-acting, I enjoy the plots, I enjoy the characters, I enjoy the fun. It was dark, yet comedic. Serious, yet fun. Balanced world-altering arcs with episodes about energon farts.

But seriously, this show is All That.

*Looks up*
And all that's left to do is to preserve Campbell Lane's memory.

@TylerMirage I totally agree. This is still by far my favorite Transformers show I've seen yet, and the others just haven't quite hit the mark for me.

@TylerMirage However, the animation, though from 1996, is still Superior to Energon and Cybertron Lol.

If anyone reading this comment hasn't seen this show before, do not, I repeat, DO NOT READ the favorite reasons in the upper right corner! I got one of the BIGGEST MOMENTS IN THE SHOW spoiled for me! Don't read them!

Definitely the best Transformers series for a bunch of reasons, the voice acting here outdid Prime's, the writing was very consistent, every character was entertaining in some way for the most part, it saved the franchise, the list goes on and on.

@pete I agree with nearly everything you say...

...expect "the voice acting here outdid Prime's". BW and TFP both had phenomenal voice acting in it - so much so that for me, personally, they're tied for awesome voice-acting.

@pete Though I still have yet to finish the entire series, as a VA enthusiast, Beast Wars has some amazing acting.... ....but I think TFP's overall acting is much better (however smug/prejudice I may come off as).

As a whole, Beast Wars is probably the best TF show overall: in terms of FAVORITES, for me, it probably ranks third BARELY being beat out by Rescue Bots, and RB being just ONE measly step behind Prime. I guess it's like choosing a favorite Star Wars film: it's not relatively easy to rank.

@TylerMirage I only said hat because of fun performances here, something Prime lacked. Knock Out was about it with fun Decepticons on that show. I should've added that I only think that by a margin.

@pete I agree with you. With Beast Wars, all of the Predacons had fun, unique voices. Prime had some great dramatic acting and most of them were at least genuinely distinct, but Beast Wars' voice work has an element of fun that's pretty refreshing. I'd say these two shows are about even in terms of quality, it's just a different kind of acting. One is a little more down to earth and dramatic, and one is more fun and exaggerated, but neither are by no means bad.

I do agree that the Decepticons in Prime were a little less distinct and fun, but that's not to say all of them weren't memorable. Megatron, Starscream and Knock Out (cuz come on, a Daran Norris character being boring doesn't happen often) were great, as well as Dreadwing, but that's about all the Decepticon voices I can remember being unique right off the top of my head.

On an unrelated note... I feel that Beast Wars' music and theme song were MUCH better than anything Prime. Prime has one of the most boring intro themes I've ever heard in my life, and I can't clearly remember a single track from the show's score.

@PsychicVoiceSpy Those are the memorable ones I can think of, unless you count Arachnid. Every other character is open to debate.

@PsychicVoiceSpy Oh and I agree on the music too, Beast Wars music made it really intense, can't really remember Prime's too well, but I won't say it wasn't intense, and it probably was once I get a chance to rewatch it, but I'm watching other shows now so I'll check later.
