So I've been watching this show for a while now despite been delayed because of homework. And what can I say? For a historical anime it's well done. Has a nice atmosphere, great world building, good characters (expect Farangis who comes off as a Mary sue to me) and nice fight scenes. Is it the anime version of Game of Thrones like Batcool claims it is? Nah. If so than three quarters of the main cast, including the main character, would be dead before the second season. It's more like some old war epic (in a good way).
That being said it does have some flaws. I feel like there's a bit to much narration going on between episodes as well as in them. Keep in mind this might be because of my CinemaSins addiction but it feels like a bit to much for me. But my biggest complaint is that the show can't seem to go all out with it's gore. When fights scenes occur all we really get is the occasional splash of blood which wouldn't normally be an issue...if the show hadn't shown that it could go all out before in the second and fourth episodes. I wish it would go out more and not be afraid show us even more gore because chances are that's what some people came for. The art style is also a bit inconsistent at times as well but it's good more often than not.
I've been watching it subbed since and I've got to say the Japanese version of the show is very well done acting wise. Yusuke Kobayashi is great as Arslan and it's an excellent show of his range since it sounds nothing like his Subaru. And when I'm on the topic of Re Zero Yumi Uchiyama is unrecognizable here as well given that Etoile sounds nothing like Puck. As for Daryun...I honestly think he might be my favorite Yoshimasa Hosoya role to date. He brings out the fierce warrior persona of the character perfectly as well as the fierce loyal side.
I will admit that I've never touched the dub once expect for the clips on this site and it seems solid to me. Both Jerry Jewell and Lady Deadpool do a great job as Gleve and Etoile and Jad Saxton and Vic Mignogna are perfectly cast. Going off his Kyosuke Munakata Ricco Fajardo seems like a great choice for Daryun even though he has huge shoes to fill. Christopher Bevins as Narsus does worry me a little mainly because the only role of his I know besides Japan is Hagakure and I'm a bit terrified he'll being using that voice...As for Aaron Dismuke and Justin Briner a part of me feels like they should've swapped roles (keep in mind just looking at the cast) but I'm open to hearing how both will hear. If someone could make a compilation of the dub up to episode 14 it would be a huge help (preferably on Viemo since my school computer blocks every video on Youtube expect kid friendly ones and the the first Highschool DxD ed...) but for now I'm just going to try to finish it.
All in all so far an 8/10 show I'd recommend.

@Soul-dragon Don't worry about Christopher Bevins as Narsus; he has a more natural tone of voice befitting a strategist like Narsus.

As for the Game of Thrones comparison; that might be giving it too much praise. While there are multiple factions to keep track of, we're mostly focused on Arslan's group and their exploits, while only getting brief glimpses (at most, one episode dedications) to what the other factions are up to.

That said, I've enjoyed this dub and the dub of its sequel series "Dust Storm Dance."

@VocalChameleon Ah thanks for clearing that up. I take it it's an accentless Japan than?
Yeah the Game of Thrones thing didn't sit well with me either when it was first brought up. I've always considered that to be Berserk or the third Fire Emblem game (but than again that's only because it had it's own red wedding and somewhat likable Joffrey ha ha).
