Considering I dislike both Adventure time and World of Gumball... I actually like this show, I like the character focused writing, the light hearted tone for most of it, it's something I think most male orientated work is missing now

I gave the show a fair shot, and I understand why people just outright adore the show, but there's just something about it that just doesn't really click for me.

I think what I love the most about this show is that even the non-plot important episodes that could ordinarily be considered filler really add a lot of depth to the characters. Even when the Crystal Gems don't show up, there always seems to be a side character that they really add a lot more to.

There never feels like a pointless episode of this show, it never feels like it wastes time and I love it for that.

A friend of mine is a HUGE fan of the show and kept recommending it to me. It's cute, but I honestly didn't think too much of it at first. I stuck with it though, and the more I watched, the more it grew on me. It even ended up surprising me. It tackles so many things I've never seen done in an American cartoon before, and you can just feel all the love and effort that has been put into it. Now, I've *become* my friend. I honestly consider it one of my favorite animated shows ever, and can't help but recommend it to any animation fans I run into. I'm really happy the current generation is able to grow up with a show like this.

This show isn't one of my favorites by any means, but that being said, I do see the appeal for it & I can understand why it has the fans it does. I do find it pretty funny at times, though, the humor is pretty solid in my book.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of this show by any means, but I hold the utmost respect for what this show does. It tackles stuff you'd never expect cartoons to tackle. And that should be commended.

At first this show didn't interest me at all. Not saying that it looked bad, it just felt little too... cutesy (for lack of better term) for my taste. But since so many people (even few internet critics, whose opinions I usually hold in great regard) kept saying how great the show is, I recently took a look at few episodes. And, gosh darnit, now I'm hooked!

@Ad23 It amazes me how much they're able to pack into a 15 minute episode (without it feeling rushed or anything), so I'd definitely be excited to see what all they could do with a movie running time.

I found it interesting how most of the cast is black or asian, not that it's a bad thing. I just hope they were chosen strictly for talent, rather than a political message.

@sailornaruto39 While I don't watch this show, I have to say that considering the historical and systematic biases that affect the entertainment industry even today, I'm very pleased to see the creators of this show generate opportunities for women of various ethnicities.
said at 3:22 PM on Tue Jul 21 2015
@sailornaruto39 All actors and actresses involved were undoubtedly chosen based on their individual ability to create a distinct character. The only reason their race could be at all considered unusual is because you want to make it out as such.
said at 2:15 PM on Tue Jul 19 2016
@CatsTuxedo No, I don't, it was just an observation in the context of today's political climate. But I will admit I was looking for something that wasn't there, my bad.
But please don't accuse me of such things

@sailornaruto39 the only option other than talent could be location. Auditions might have been held in an area with a population of mostly blacks and asians, but it's probalbly litle more than coincidence.

Man this StevenBomb was awesome.

I just love how this show is progressing.

Connie training in the ways of the sword, Finding out what Peridots main reason for coming to Earth and Steven being able to communicate with other gems in his dreams.

Rising Tides/Crashing Skies was also really funny.

Apparently we're going to have a new gem be introduced in the next StevenBomb....I cannot wait. :D

Yesterday I Finally Caught up and am now up to date on Steven Universe.

I have say without a doubt this is one of the greatest cartoons made in the last couple of years. It's funny, got a unique story, unique character designs, cool world building, great characters and character dynamics and some really well done voice acting especially from people that for the most part haven't done much in the past prior to this. Rebecca Sugar is probably one of the best people currently working in the industry, having made some of the best Adventure Time episodes and now made one of my new favourite cartoons yet.

I know it's probably tiresome hearing praise for this show but I say the praise is truly warranted. I don't know where I will end up ranking this at the end of the decade when it came to the best cartoons of the decade but I know it will be in my top 5, that I know for sure.

and also I liked the Uncle Grandpa crossover episode. I'm sorry guys I thought it had some funny parts.

One thing i really, really like about this show is how literally NO ONE makes fun of Stephen's feminine personality, or how Steven feels his feminine is a bad thing. It embraces and tells male viewers that they can be feminine, and that is really good in a show.

This is easily one of the best shows on cartoon network, hell maybe one of the best cartoons on to date. You know it's good when 1) when all the main character are so good & likable that's hard to decide who's the best, 2) the when you see a trailer for it I you think it looks so dumb (thanks cartoon network), but it ends up being a really deep & thoughtful Episode 98% every-time, & 3) everything has there place even characters who get barely any screen time has such rich characteristics. so yea this is easily one of my new favorite show of all time thanks Rebecca Sugar.

I disagree with him, the episode was rather awkward with awful pacing.
It also was not a good crossover, Uncle Grandpa and the other characters from his show got most of the jokes while the Crystal Gems were made fun of, there were no balance. Also Pearl acted very out of character.

I needed to make btva account just to gush about how much I love this show, everything in in it, where to even begin, just the voice cast alone is amazing, particularly the Gems. And the character design and the writing, how much being nice and trying to find a peaceful solution to everything is empasized, and the background mythology is very intriguing too...

So yeah I probably don't have anything new to say, just wanted to add my voice to the choir. :)

2 Shout Outs! me, the Gem fusions sounded like perfect mediums between their respective participants, with no voice warping even involved. It seems they call upon music stars Aimee Mann and Nicki Minaj to do this sort of thing. I wonder- did they ask them when they figured out how the fusions would sound?

Now this is a great show people. Rebecca Sugar proves that she is both a great writer, and show creator. In fact, her work on Adventure Time proved that she was an excellent writer and composer. Steven Universe alone proves that she created something great. Plus, Steven is one of the best written child characters I have ever seen, and it's hard to create a well written child character like Steven. Also, what I really like about this show, is the portrayal of the Crystal gems, they're not supermodels like most animated women are. These women are a variety of skin colors and body shapes. IE Garnet is tall and busty, Pearl is skinny and flat, and Amethyst is short and chubby. As a feminist (Not feminazi), I find this empowering because it shows that any woman can be beautiful in their own way, and they don't need to live up to society's standards to be seen that way. In fact, Cartoon Network in general has been bouncing back well. So Weather you like them or not, Adventure time, Regular show and the Amazing world of Gumball, all have huge fanbases for a good reason. No doubt, Steven Universe is in these ranks, and more writers can be inspired by Sugar to create shows like this.

@VctrBnsn I am, but only because as a cartoonist, it's a relief to see basic competent character design after so much unwieldy blandness in all the action-based stuff. Representation's nice and all, but it really shouldn't have anything to do with simply making the characters recognizable, functional and appealing.
said at 2:03 PM on Tue Jul 21 2015

Maybe I'm just old school and set in my ways, but i grew up in the 90's with all the good shows (everyone knows what i mean, so i'm not giving a list) and i just don't find the modern stuff on CN as entertaining as the old school stuff. I can't stand what they did with Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. Now Regular Show is hilarious, and Adventure Time is pretty cool, but other than those 2 there's nothing i consider "good" on CN anymore.
