We got robbed of so many amazing castings, like Kaplan as Magneto and Spisak as Deadpool. And I’m really curious as to who would’ve voiced the rest of the X-Men

I don't like how Captain America looks in that picture.

It's cool that they got Colleen O'Shaughnessey back for Wasp. And Neil Kaplan as Magneto and Keith Silverstein as War Machine are great casting choices.

The dub is probably going to be good, but the anime is probably bad.

Is This Show ever going to have its English Dub released on DVD?
said at 1:51 AM on Fri Oct 6 2017
@EPA Deane Fraid not (in terms of US release). Marvel I believe doesn't want stuff like this to clash with their American produced shows and I can bet you, if that new Avengers anime series gets dubbed it'll go through the same song and dance as this. Sad thing but seems to be the truth.

said at 5:10 AM on Wed Oct 11 2017
@EPA Deane Yes, besides they hardly even release the shows over here nowadays American or not, we only got about 10 or 11 eps of Ultimate Spider-Man and that was it, nothing from Avengers Assemble or anything else here.

& with the sad takedown of that episode 6, goes the only footage we have of Robin Atkin Downes in an anime dub, & the majority of our evidence of Robbie Daymond's Spidey (now, hopefully we get that Spidey 2018 going so we get to hear it outside a dub). As well as the only audio I could get of The Wrecking Crew (FWIW, I think Piledriver sounded a lot like Dave Wittenberg, & Bulldozer maybe Roger Rose)

Ah well, at least that's motivation to save the rest of the clips somewhere...

I have this weird hunch that Akira might be Amanda Celine Miller. She has been working at Studiopolis for awhile (including, on a Marvel property, which is pretty rare & significant for a newer VA) & also voiced Boruto around the same time, also under Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.

It has been stated that Akira sounds like Mona Marshall, & it hit me a few minutes ago while my young brother was watching Boruto, that ACM's young boy voice sounded like Mona Marshall's. So I figured it's worth asking. Guess I'll have to wait & see...

I've actually never seen this show properly but from what I've heard, the English voice cast does looks really good, a mixture of actors we know and love as well as new voices for some characters.

Just a shame that us English and American audiences can't see the dub since it's only available in Malaysia but I can sort of understand why. It may be because Marvel doesn't want a show like this to clash with their American produced shows.
said at 1:50 PM on Thu Mar 9 2017
@RetroPokeFan It's even more of a shame since this is one of the most interesting & probably really good anime dubs of the last couple years. Can you imagine they'd get Robin Atkin freakin Downes for this thing? When he's not even in dubs produced for the major English-speaking markets? You'd think it'd be much easier to get him for something like JoJo or OPM since those are currently popular shows. Damn cheap dubs/rich Disney-Marvel, lol.
said at 1:55 PM on Thu Mar 9 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed Yeah, i know. Real shame that American fans are missing out on Robin Atkin Downes's first proper anime? Also they've just recently announced a new anime series is being made which'll focus on the Avengers. I bet that's gonna go through the same song and dance as Disk Wars considering we have Avengers Assemble.
said at 1:58 PM on Thu Mar 9 2017
@RetroPokeFan Exactly. Marvel American cartoons are made for us, in English. JP gets anime made for them, in Japanese. It'd be cool if regional/language barriers were no issue - then we wouldnt have to worry about budgetary restrictions in dubs either.

I wonder who's voicing Cyclops in this dub. It's either Scott Porter who voiced him in the X-Men & Wolverine anime's. I would be surprised if they got Nolan North to reprise him, since he has no history of being in an anime. You never know, it could be someone else entirely.
said at 11:01 PM on Wed Mar 8 2017
@Shaun Ince I would suspect that it is someone common in anime dubs that is consistent with past portrayals of the character. One (as we discussed elsewhere) possible name being Grant George. He & Nolan North share Ant-Man & Nolan voiced Ant Man under Jamie Simone, who undoubtedly supervised this dub. It strikes me as a possibility.

tbh I wonder why so many VA's are reluctant to go into detail about this. NDAs have been off for ages, & Marvel credits are an awesome thing to have on your acting resume.
Shaun Ince
said at 7:29 PM on Thu Mar 9 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed Nolan voiced the Hank Pym Ant Man, & Grant voiced the Scott Lang Ant Man. 2 different Ant men, but Ant Man nonetheless.

As for why some of the actors haven't gone into detail about who they voiced in this dub is a mystery to me. I know one thing. Some of them were not aware that the NDA's had expired. So they have free reign to talk about their involvement.

I honestly wish someone from Marvel who worked on this show could drop a whole credits list. And maybe some sound clips. Would solve all of our problems. Also the Marvel voice compare's would get a huge update.

We just have to work with what we've got and look at past Marvel casting history to try & figure out some of these voices.

said at 7:30 PM on Thu Mar 9 2017
@huzaifa_ahmed As for the one reason as to why Nolan North being in this dub is a possibility, is based on the fact that Robin Atkin Downes is in this dub. Which still shocks me to this day.

So, this is something rather sensitive, so out of respect for his privacy, I won't post a screenshot, but I'll mention that Robbie Daymond PM'ed me something on Twitter. Mods, if I can go on with what he said, please let me know.

But let me say that earlier today, I posted a video of English Disk Wars Spidey, in response to a tweet of his about playing iconic characters.

& he is no stranger to my (a well as Auto's) general online tirade to track down these VA's.

Anyhow, as Nightmare Crusher (just realized, what an awesome online handle) pointed out, many of these actors may simply be unaware of the expiration of the NDA's.

So, yeah, if someone would permit me to type out the message, it might help pinpoint how & whether to pursue this further.

What I really don't get is why this only airs in Malaysia, yet they got so many talented and big name actors on board to voice so many of these characters.

If it was a Malaysian English dub like the Speedy dub of DBZ then I'd understand, but it isn't, so this just leaves me scratching my head...

said at 5:35 PM on Tue May 24 2016
@NCZ & that's great. Good for Malaysian kids they get to watch this dub.

But it's Marvel. They're head of operations & largest source of income is North America. If they're going to produce a dub for their own foreign show...why not air it here, as well? There's an obvious market for it.

Lemme guess, "I don't have the answer to your question" :D
NCZ (Admin)
said at 6:03 PM on Tue May 24 2016

Multitude of possible reasons.

- Not wanting to cannibalize your own product/oversaturating the market by competing with both ongoing marvel cartoons + merchandise from the films

- Not wanting to create confusion between the various cartoon lines

- Possible difficulty of finding shelf space in retailers + timeslots on Disney XD

- Who would be the target audience for this series?

Also from the sounds of things, this is really just a toy tie-in anime. Those seem to not be the proven guaranteed hit they were years ago and in general we're not missing much by not getting that kind of thing.
said at 6:13 PM on Tue May 24 2016
@NCZ I realize that, but I just don't get why they won't let it air in North America as well, especially when it's largely associated with American VAs that would most likely like for their work to be seen.

It doesn't make much sense to me.
said at 2:33 PM on Wed May 25 2016
@Metabad I think the least they could do is either do a DVD/Blu-Ray home release or put up the entire dubbed series on a streaming site or something, I mean Marvel tends to upload most of their own shows on their site, no reason why they couldn't do that with MDW.

It just feels like a waste to spend all this money unionizing the dub for MDW and not show it when we have non-union dubs that actually get air time on TV.
said at 6:37 PM on Wed May 25 2016

My first point would have been "most of these VA's have fairly regularly worked non-union, &/or have close non-union-working counterparts [Fred Tatasciore - Paul St. Peter, Travis/Patrick; RAD - Matthew Mercer (hell, as a non-fan, I thought Abomination WAS him first listening)]

"It just feels like a waste to spend all this money unionizing the dub for MDW and not show it when we have non-union dubs that actually get air time on TV."

...but when you put it that way...I'm sure Aniplex prices could *EASILY* fund constant union dubs. I mean 100's of $ per season, & like 3000 sales. If it's done ala 99.9% of video games (i.e. directly by the original licensor)...the tiny extra fees for union dubs (or even higher, video game-level pay)'d think it'd be a non-issue.

I mean, if something like *ahem* "Laws of the Universe" can get that sort of dub...yeah. to start a Disk Wars limited release/Internet streaming petition?

We'd hopefully get quite a bit of momentum from this forum alone.

The further this cast goes, it makes me sad we'll never see the dub because this sounds like a perfect cast mixing of the current voices and the EMH voices
said at 3:05 PM on Tue May 24 2016
@skeletonking1234 I'm not very fond of it, personally; I was hoping for the potential dub to be its own separate entity away from any past incarnation (like the original Japanese version of PPGZ was), but the fact that they're just rehashing most of the old voices again works against that. That and it just seems kind of pointless considering the American audience those voices are meant to cater to won't even see it.
said at 3:48 PM on Tue May 24 2016
@CatsTuxedo "the fact that they're just rehashing most of the old voices again works against that."

I'd imagine the main reason that most of the Japanese Marvel actors didn't reprise is because budget. I mean they got Yasuyuki Kase as JARVIS (which he was in the film), but no Keiji Fujiwara as Stark, Yuichi Nakamura as Cap, Miyuki Sawashiro as Widow, etc.

keep in mind this is past, not present, it's just some internal bungling of affairs that keeps it from airing here.

"That and it just seems kind of pointless considering the American audience those voices are meant to cater to won't even see it."

Most people from Malaysia watching this on *ahem* unofficial sources...also recognize the 2012+ cast.

So, it's not like it was totally pointless to use many of the major players in this.

Though you have to wonder how they got RAD of all people to voice in this.
said at 6:52 PM on Tue May 24 2016
@CatsTuxedo If you could be a dear & delete that tidal wave of my previous reply...that'd be great.

Anyhow, what sort of cast would you have preferred for this dub? & what do you think of the Japanese cast for it?
said at 2:33 PM on Wed May 25 2016
@CatsTuxedo I think if they recorded it at Ocean, it still would have felt like a waste since 1.) we'd still not see in the west and 2.) it'd make tracking down the dub credits even more difficult since there are less past castings to work from.

Otherwise I would have agreed partially on this, if only because I want to hear the folks at Ocean do more things.

Still I think it was nice to hear some of these VA's reprise their roles like RAD as Abomination, Colleen O'Shaughnessy as Wasp and Wally Wingert as Hank Pym from Avengers: EMH and other reprisals from other more obscure projects like Matthew Mercer as Iron Man from Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore even if I'll probably never get to hear it in full.

also huzaifa_ahmed if Ocean were to dub it I'd imagine it'd go along the lines of this.

Iron Man - Trevor Devall or Michael Daingerfield Hall (depends on avaliability)
Captain America - Paul Dobson or Clay St. Thomas
Thor - Michael Adamthwaite
Hulk - Mark Gibbon
Wasp - Kira Tozer
Spider-Man - Sam Vincent or Andrew Toth
Loki - Jonathan Holmes
Wolverine - Brian Drummond
Deadpool - Kirby Morrow
Akira - Cathy Weseluck or Kathleen Barr

Just searched SAG signatory database (as I rather obviously should have earlier) for "Disk Wars" & it was recorded in 2001 (as all anime are, apparently) at Studiopolis, which was similarly obvious from the start.

Keep in mind, I'm not a big Marvel fan, but going by the BTVA voice compares, Hawkeye's (ep 6) is really close to Matthew Mercer's take.

Silver Samurai also sounds like Matt.

It's rather obvious Tim Gilliam is Todd, he just won't admit it FWR.

I'm on mobile, but there's a young Malaysian child's upload of (herself watching) some episodes, & I managed to pick out Tara Jayne's voice in Edward Grant. Ben Diskin was the tall teenage kid, which I will actually confirm with him ASAP, because he's a bro on Twitter.

Anyhow, Tara told me she was on the show, although I was bumbling enough not to confirm the character with her. Just sent her a hopefully final tweet.
said at 7:07 PM on Wed May 18 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed Further development:

Tara Jayne: "yep I played Edward"

Ben Diskin: "Yes, I'm Chris on Disk Wars"

Matthew Mercer: "Iron Man, Diablo"

If anyone wants to help pinpoint VA's, here's the videos of the dub:

@D.A.V.E. "Blum doesn't do anime anymore."

Hell, I am certain he was Wolverine in this, especially with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn directing.
said at 9:14 PM on Wed May 18 2016
@huzaifa_ahmed After listening to the voices from the clips I am very certain that's Kate Higgins as Jessica Shannon, since she normally does her anime voice-over these days at Studiopolis and she sounds like Sakura from "Naruto". Joel Murphy is Ben Diskin due to his voice sounding very similar to Ban in "Seven Deadly Sins", and Abomination is most likely Peter Lurie since he sounds a lot like Sabretooth and Leatherhead.

Not sure about the rest of the characters since the second video it was hard to hear the voices due to the different people speaking in the background, but I think that Hikaru Akatsuki is Steve Staley, Fred Tatasciore is the Hulk, Pepper Potts is Kate Higgins, Tim Gilliam is Todd Haberkorn and Roger Craig Smith is Captain America.

@Nightmare Crusher Which is what I said, Robin Atkin Downes doesn't do ADR Dubbing. Guess I should've been more specific that it should be on Anime, because the only known ADR dubbing for video games have been on the Kingdom Hearts and the select Final Fantasy titles.

Practically every game to come out of Japan is ADR dubbed. Robin has done plenty of that, including Kingdom Hearts, which you specifically mentioned.

@Nightmare Crusher And while I'm at it, "ADR dubbing" is redundant. ADR IS dubbing.
said at 3:03 PM on Fri May 20 2016
@Nightmare Crusher Yes, this was grinding my gears the entire time. I think what @DisneyAnimefan1995 was trying to say was "ADR, dubbing" or "ADR/dubbing".

& screwing up both.

& yeah, for RAD, it's about the money, for the most part. No doubt he has a great voice for anime, & definitely an ADR master as well.

Same goes for Josh Keaton, Jennifer Hale, Clancy Brown, & myriad others there's no need to list.
said at 3:06 PM on Fri May 20 2016
@GothamRed He does literally any anime that's 1. union, 2. well-scheduled, 3. casts him in a role. Pay is irrelevant.

He was in like 3 just last year. Kari Wahlgren & Yuri Lowenthal are quite similar, actually, with the caveat that Yuri doesn't seem to be burdened by full union status. He does non-union JRPG's (which have decent scheduling) occasionally.

Crispin Freeman is not as established, but confirmed union & sticks to those roles.
said at 3:26 PM on Fri May 20 2016
@Nightmare Crusher Come to think of it, the Japanese version of MGS (& virtually all anime) is ADR which is "original animation"

Afro Samurai is the only one that I can think of in English. Maybe VHD Bloodlust.

@GreenGoblin75 Yeah it was ROD alright as Abomination, after re listening to the clip and compare it to the audio clips listed on the site. Quite a surprise that this is his first "Official" anime role he's in, outside of doing ADR/dubbing for the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy games. Hope we get to see him in more anime, regardless if it's his only time doing it.
said at 5:41 PM on Mon May 23 2016
@DisneyAnimefan1995 I hate to pressure you on with this, but foreign-language dubbing, while almost always done in ADR, doesn't include all ADR.

I would say that *most* VA's, especially those who don't do a ton of animation, do ADR for live-action stuff ("looping") IIRC Corey Burton does a TON of of it.

Hell, Bill Farmer (who does mostly this), referred to Kingdom Hearts as being "done in Japan, & then we LOOP them into English".

IDRC why it's called looping, but IIRC it has to do with the technology it started out on.

FWR, I don't think the agent takes much out of it (& thus doesn't recommend it), but according to DBB, anime/foreign-dubbing in general is the lowest form of looping, & looping is a lesser job than animation because residuals only come from DVD's.

Of course, for those who only book anime dubs, it's a LOT of money, & there are hints of this in that Debi Derryberry (who dabbles in anime) often mentions being a loop group regular.

& of course, James Arnold Taylor is a looping God. He does tons of voice doubling, which involves looping. He is indeed a likely ADR master as well.

Sorry for this long, drawn-out just had to be said IMO

@Nightmare Crusher I stand corrected on Orion Acaba voicing Deadpool in the show.

But other than that, nice to see we have a hint of the show from one of the voice actors involved in the English dub, not to mention it's nice to see Jason Spisak in another anime role. Looks to be a unionized anime dub at Studiopolis, since they did work on a lot of the Marvel related shows, both the ones airing on Disney XD and the Marvel Anime from Sony. In addition Jason Spisak does work for the studio while appearing in certain anime series like "Initial D" and "Zatch Bell". Hope we get the show in some shape or form either on Disney XD (unlikely) or as a Netflix acquired anime series.
said at 8:40 AM on Wed Apr 20 2016

Apparently, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn directed the dub as well.

&, while the video has been removed for whatever reason, Colleen O'Shaughnessy mentioned in an interview that "I'm doing this thing, Avengers: Disk Wars? It's like Marvel, but it's anime?"

For the life of me, I cannot recall the interview in which she mentioned it, but apparently the VA's weren't told that it doesn't air here, & I wonder what's going on with the handling of the show.

I'd just like to get some official word on it, regardless of whether or not I actually SEE it. :[

I don't mean to sound crude, but considering how no one thus far has attempted to stream an english dub from Malaysia online, this leads me to assume that Malaysia somehow has an influence on prohibiting overseas broadcasting both on TV and the web.

And if that's the case, if Malaysia can prevent the dub from leaking on the internet that much, then I think Malaysia has is it in for english speaking audiences.

@skeletonking1234 I think that might have to do with Malaysia not wanting any content outside of it's country.

I can't believe it's finally getting dubbed and yet it won't be shown on TV in the states. Yes because heaven forbid any kids watch Marvel cartoons better than Jeph Loeb's crap.

with that said I'm sure Fred Tatasciore's probably Hulk again since he's voiced Hulk in Avengers Confidential so as long as its a union dub Fred's got a shot of being in it.

I just need to know who is doing Wasp. I hope its Colleen O'Shaughnessy....Though I wouldn't object to someone like Carrie Keranen or Kira Buckland voicing her.

I'm wondering if we'll see some VA's who aren't traditionally dub VA's like Bumper Robinson voicing Falcon here or Nolan North as Deadpool or we'll see certain dub VA's that have never done Marvel before like Paul St. Peter or Michael McConnohie in this.

If we can get a mix between that, no doubt will I love the dub for this show, with that said I still need to check out the subs.

also I'm glad Crispin Freeman's taking another stab at Loki. I feel he could surpass Troy Baker in the role someday.

@Autovolt To be fair, there was a similar situation with the Stitch! anime some years ago (not to mention Powerpuff Girls Z on CN's end), so this shouldn't be entirely chalked up to Loeb and/or Quesada being dingbats as usual.

If anything, it's probably more to do with American distributors simply not being interested in bringing over foreign knock-offs of properties that they already own.

They've announced an English dub of the show but it seems to be only airing on Disney XD in Malaysia. Which this honestly makes no sense.

The first dubbed episode aired on June 6. I did see some clips of the English dub online and… Matthew Mercer as Iron Man, Roger Craig Smith as Captain America, Travis Willingham as Thor. The others I can't figure out easily but I'm guessing Mona Marshall is Akira.

Hopefully this site can update this info but I doubt it since the English dub isn't even airing in our country.

I'll have to get around to this soon. I mean Takehito Koyasu (Dio) as Deadpool. That alone must be worth the watch to see.

I'm surprised they didn't get the same seiyuus The Avengers had in the Japanese dubs like Keiji Fujiwara as Iron Man, Yuichi Nakamura as Captain America and Kenta Miyake as Thor....oh well.

Though we did get some reprisals like Yasuyuki Kase as JARVIS and Hiroshi Shirokuma as Ronan the Accuser.

The character designs are hit and miss. I'll admit they are unique but some are just strange.

@UltimateCharm Most likely it will be Studiopolis since its Marvel's got to studio whether it'd be cartoon or anime.

Though I'd love it if Ocean got this one, hell I'd settle for FUNimation too especially since FUNi has yet to do anything Marvel related but the Ocean fanboy in me would prefer that.

Either way we'll get some unique castings for sure...I hope. The real question now is can this air in the US without any difficulties?

I mean: Iron Man, Thor and Wasp can fly, Spider-man can web sling, Hulk can jump great distances and Cap... well he's an exception. Point being: why do they even need help from these kids?! I think they can get around just FINE. And besides, the Avengers would have to go to the trouble of saving them if... oh you get what I mean!

TylerMirage (Admin)
said at 9:22 PM on Sat Nov 23 2013
@GothamRed 1.) Beast Wars should also be your favourite series because IT'S FRIGGIN' AMAZING.

2.) Yeah, I'm not sure about the kids. I took another look at them, and for a brief moment I thought that the kids would be some sort of alternate identity for the heroes, a la Digimon Frontier.

I see a kid front-and-center with a red sweater and gold shirt underneath (hmm, that colour scheme seem familiar?), a kid with a green-ish shirt right next to Hulk, a kid with a blue shirt (Cap) and then one female character (Wasp is the only female hero pictured). ... Yeah, it's a big stretch since the comparison isn't perfect, but hey, we have no idea what this show is gonna' be like, so there's a *slight* chance they'd do something crazy like that.
said at 9:51 PM on Sat Nov 23 2013
@TylerMirage Well yeah number 1 goes without saying. And I had that thought too that these kids would transform into the avengers using the titular disks, which would be weird for anyone who knew these characters beforehand but still a possibility. My other thought was that they would use the disks to summon the avengers like captain planet or something, which would be marginally better since it'd be the actual characters and their personalities, but still not great. We'll just have to wait and see.
