I'm not really a fan of this series, but the theme song in Japanese is pretty good.

I have one question that bugs me why didnt Kara Edwards reprised Videl in this series. she reprised Kid Goten but that was archivial footage.

Was it because of shedueling conflicts, she did live very far away so it made sense that she couldnt have time to record for the series but she reprised Videl and Goten in all of the video games and movies relased during that timeframe or was it because Bevins felt that her voice for Videl didnt fit for the character that age and used Susan Huber

Kara actually wasn't that into animation voice over before she came to the realization that fans LOVE her roles as Videl and Goten. There's also the fact that she has a higher pitched voice (or at least, she tends to be cast as higher pitched characters), so maybe the casting director thought her voice didn't fit Videl's older incarnation.

Based on this, I'd say a combination of both aspects that led to Kara not reprising.

@MizukaS not an actual reason but your version of the story. But I'm open to opinions. Still like I said she did reprise videl in all the games and movies that were released during GT timeframe.

I mean u could argue asking bevins or kara about this on social media since how actives they are there but out of respect for both professionals I won't ask this

I think watching the entirety of the GT series is all that I care about it. If anyone else wants to uncover the real reason why Kara didn't reprise, they are free to play detective.

@MizukaS Um okay but u should know actors deserve respect too, asking this sort of question to them would make them feel uncomfortable because who knows how bad the reasons behind it really affected them

on the bright side bevins would later use kara in his other dubs in the future and she enjoys working with him

To restate what SupremeTarantulas told me on the character's VC, she moved to North Carolina after Z wrapped to continue her radio career (radio was how she got her start in the 90s, with the "Squeege and Kara Show" from Radio Disney based out of Dallas, which she did with Kyle Hebert).

During this time, Lucy Small was promoted from Young Pan to GT Videl (Kate Bristol taking over the former role), and though Kara came back for the yearly video game (or 2), she did not have the opportunity to dub Videl in GT, not even for the Remastered sets in later years (much like the case of Monika Antonelli's Kid Chi-Chi in DBZ).

Anyway, Kara eventually decided to go full time on voiceover, moved back to Dallas circa 2007, and has consistently voiced Goten and Videl ever since.

Actors deserve the most utmost respect, yes. In no way am I denying that.

@rosebr10 that`s a good legitimate reason. I`ll take it. With all respect to Susan, she`s good in other stuff her db roles are meh for videl she was serivceable at best, I prefer Brina more when it comes to becoming a susbstitute to Kara Edwards`s Videl

although I liked her pan better than elise, a bummer she got replaced in the kai dub for elise(I`m not a fan of that potrayl) but atleast we got Jeannie Tirado now so that`s good.

I don't care what anyone says; I still love GT, just as much as DragonBall and Z.

I think the best way to summarize this show is missed opportunities. They have some good ideas but not really executed well.

Blue Water's GT dub has a more accurate script translation, while FUNimation's GT dub has better voice over work, to me: pros and cons to both dubs. FUNimation included the Japanese score for GT on their DVD releases, so I can't hold that against their dub now, although I will say as much as we like to rag on Bruce Faulconer/Scott Morgan, that score was tolerable compared to Mark Menza's score for this Series.

Also domething worth noting. While Blie Water had better scripts, why did they feel the need to change General Rild/Rildo to General Lock? That change made no sense to me & it still doesn't 13 years later.

@Shaun Ince OK I must have been drunk or something because I spelt Blue as Blie. I really need to proofread my stuff before posting it.

In regards to the dubs for GT, neither are perfect. Blue Water had better translations & not so great voices
(For some, not all) FUNi's version did have some good voices, but the script has the same problem as Dragonball Z's script. It heavily deviates from the original.

@Shaun Ince I will say this, FUNi's dub of GT is much more tolerable with the original Japanese score.

Another controversal post but I kinda like this more than Z, it's a fun comedic series while Z is mostly a battle heavy series which I don't have a strong appeal to

For all the wrong this series did. I love the opening theme.

I think I like Vic Mignogna's English cover more than the Japanese version.

I also have a soft spot for the Blue Water GT opening since I grew up with it.

I was first exposed to Dragon Ball because of GT, I will admit Funimation is more consistent of the two dubs while Blue Water is very very hit(Android 17, Giru in particular) and miss(KRILLIN)

I feel GT's biggest problem is it had good ideas but poor execution. I like a lot of the ideas...for the most part. The beginning of the series is pretty weak, most episodes had a more 'filler' vibe to them (technically the whole series is filler since there isn't a manga but still) and the thing with Goku being a child is just...stupid, really stupid. I think I would have accepted making Goku a kid again if they used that as an excuse to not have him be the main character and had like Gohan or someone else have the focus.

Baby was actually a pretty cool villain, the Super 17 Saga had an interesting concept, and the Shenron saga wasn't that bad either and had really interesting villains. They could have been awesome but they weren't used to their fullest.
I actually like Pan even if she did get annoying at times.

@Music Meister I actually completely agree with you on this one.

@Music Meister I agree with you, totally. This series had some interesting ideas, but they were not executed very well. I found kid Goku to be annoying and didn't like that he was stuck that way for the entire series. If he was only a kid for one saga and it was used as a way to make him Super Saiyan 4, but then he become an adult again(all of the time), then I'da been OK with it.

Baby was an interesting villain and I liked the Super 17 idea. The Shadow Dragons were a really cool concept, but IIRC most of them were more comedic in nature and didn't really seem as threatening as they could have.

One really big bother was that Goku had to fight pretty much everybody, and that all of the other Warriors are left in the dust. Trunks was on, however since we didn't get much of Goten we never got to see an older Gotenks which could have been fun. And why didn't they use Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo and Uub/Majuub more? I was really bummed that they killed Piccolo and left him dead. And I didn't like that the Saiyans surpassed him so much. I liked that part in Z where he was almost on the same level.

Having seven Shadow Dragons at the end should have allowed for other characters to fight them and not just Goku.

@Polyester Funk That was something I forgot to mention, the lack of others. While Goku is the main character GT seems to forget that the others were just as important. Heck, each saga had a good amount of time where Goku wasn't even there.
GT just has Goku be the only one strong enough to do anything and the others just didn't seem important, even Vegata was only good for being controlled by Baby or fusing with Goku at the end.
