We have two English dubs of the series, but neither completely satisfies. It's a shame the uncut dub wasn't with the movie's LA cast.

I think Nelvana (and the great Karl Willems) had assembled an excellent cast for the first dub. Rather than the voice acting quality, I think the edits are the main reason people dislike the dub. I mean, it's hard to go wrong with people like Brian Drummond, Venus Terzo, Maggie Blue O'Hara and Sam Vincent in the cast. Honestly speaking, I have too much nostalgia for the first dub to hold the edits against it.

I will never stop bemoaning the fact that we never got to hear Carly McKillip in a lead role again. She wasn't perfect, but I think she performed admirably given her age then and the restrictions that always come with anime dubbing. Plus, if her page is any indication, Sakura was her VO debut. That's kind of impressive.

I hope I don't sound rude when I say this, but, I can't help sniggering every time people say Carly sounds too old for Sakura. I can understand not liking her performance, but I find it amusing considering that she was eleven when when she started work on this and wrapped up both the series and the first movie before she turned thirteen.

The LA cast for the second movie was really good, too. I never knew Kari Wahlgren was capable of sounding that cute (HNNNGG!!), and I can't help but wonder how Steve Staley and Johnny Yong Bosch would have fared in their respective roles had the TV series been dubbed in California and not Vancouver.

@mweloo It's ironic, but not entirely strange. Sometimes people sound older or younger than they actually are. Like I have one friend who is in his 20s, but still gets mistaken for a middle or high schooler when he talks on the phone. I like Carly's take myself, but I can see how people could think it sounds older.

Heard both the dubs, to be honest I prefer the Animax dub voices over Nelvana, they are a bit stiff but their voices are okay enough(and not as bad as their Blue Dragon and Inuyasha dub) and it didn't have the edits Nelvana had

@HienFan I haven't watched this show, but out of curiosity I checked out a comparison.

To me, the Ocean voices definitely have better voice acting quality. But Animax at least is uncut and has the characters actually sound more like little girl voices rather than sounding more like grown women. It's probably an above average dub for Animax standards, compared to other samples I heard of dubs they did. Still suffers from flat performances at times.

Maybe my standards have been skewed on dubbing since seeing Speedy's dub of DBZ, but the Animax dub isn't really bad. Far from the best dub, but not as bad as many people make it out to be. The main problem pretty much stems from the fact that practically all the characters are voiced by the same people.

Keep in mind, this is the opinion of someone without nostalgia bias on this series.

@whyofbladez Gah Speedy DBZ don't get me on their Sailor Moon dub...

Another thing about Animax dubs is it seem to have a lot microphone issue the voice actors at least tried to sound different from one role to another but it's kinda uneven

So cute, I prefer the Japanese version though

I was wondering why this page has cast members who only appear in the second movie, and now I think I know why: it seems this page includes information from the TV show AND the movies.

@immblueversion that might be the case. this page was originally created on BTVA version 1 when there wasn't a movies section.

can you make a forum thread indicating which ones are the mistakes? thanks

@Foxwolf Sorry I took so long. It would appear that everything has been sorted out, save a few movie-exclusive characters.

@thomwim True. I don't think they are bad. Sakura is the same as the Japanese, just pronounced differentl I like the name 'Madison' too
