 2 Shout Outs!
It's a shame that we'll never get an uncut English dub with the Ocean cast as despite the censorship and Americanization (or do we call it Canadianization in this case? lol), a lot of the supporting cast fit their parts well and would've been great in a uncut version.

I mean isn't it a bit amusing that Kero, Yukito and Toya were voiced by Ed, Edd And Eddy respectively?

I also thought Brian Drummond as Sakura's Dad and Richard Newman as Keroberos were pretty awesome casting choices.

That said it was always a bit bizarre to me how Carly McKillip a then pre-teen cast as Sakura somehow managed to make her sound a bit older than she should've been. A part of me wonders how she would approach the role today if she were to reprise. Though I wish Andrea Libman was cast as Sakura when they made the dub, she'd sound almost just like Sakura Tange but in English.

If only Nelvana had the foresight to make an uncut dub with the cast they had then like Ocean got to do with The Vision of Escaflowne (even though Funimation would re-dub it in house anyways).

Still I don't mind the Funimation cast they plan on using for the new anime and i can only imagine at some point they will go back and re-dub this show and the movies for consistency's sake. Hopefully Cardcaptors Sakura will get the faithful dub it truly deserves much like Viz dub of Sailor Moon.

While I'm not finished binge watching it on Crunchyroll, I'm enjoying it so far, it's a lot of fun filled with heart and charm. I love the fact many of the seiyuu's in it were on Sailor Moon.

@Autovolt Did you know that an uncut English dub for this show can be watched on Crunchyroll as well? Animax made it though, so don't expect a super-top-notch dubbing job.
said at 11:12 PM on Thu Jan 25 2018
@Autovolt Only thing that complicates a potential re-dub of the original series is NIS America already has the rights to it, so FUNimation will either have to wait for their rights to expire or try to work out a partnership with them. Further complicating matters is the fact NIS already has the original series available on Blu-Ray, so they might not see the point in releasing another version so soon.

That said however, I have a feeling FUNi will redub the movies. At the very least, the Sealed Card movie. It has yet to get a re-release on streaming or home video and a redub with the Clear Card cast would add extra incentive for even people who got it the first time around to double-dip.
said at 7:13 PM on Fri Jan 26 2018
@1dbad I'd prefer it if FUNI just dubbed the first movie with the trip to Hong Kong.
said at 5:09 AM on Sun Jan 28 2018
@1dbad Funimation has stolen franchises from NIS before (stares at Love Live, Danganronpa and Hyperdimension Neptunia). They can do it again.
said at 7:03 PM on Sun Jan 28 2018
@Soul-dragon It's more of the fact that the original Sakura Blu-Ray is so recent that worries me than FUNi being able to get the rights. But I sure hope they do!

Looks like Funimation got the license to the new series, the Clear Card arc. One would probably wonder if they're gonna have the VAs that voiced the CCS characters in Tsubasa to reprise their roles, OR go for a brand new cast. I would be okay with it either way, but Monica Rial is my #1 choice as Sakura, tbh.
said at 9:05 PM on Thu Dec 14 2017
@MizukaS looking how funimation are right now. I think they going to it themselves. I highly think that because what @1dbad said there 2 dub but yet neither of them satisfies the biggest fan of this series. Because LA uncut only dub second movie. While the series and first still have the backlash cut Canadian dub.
said at 9:19 PM on Thu Dec 14 2017
@MadDude657 also that they are simuldubbing this new series as well so they need to be fast.
said at 9:27 PM on Thu Dec 14 2017
I mean, I'm pretty sure Funimation is using their own in house cast. I just wanna know if they are going to let the VAs that voiced the CCS characters' counterparts in Tsubasa reprise their roles, or use other VAs in their pool, that's all.
said at 12:38 AM on Sat Dec 23 2017
@MizukaS I could see them keeping Monica as Sakura, but they might recast Shaoran due to him being younger here.

In any case, I can't wait to see how the Clear Card arc dub turns out! It's exciting having a good uncut dub to look forward to. I'm not sure how likely it is, but I would love to see them redub the original series as well.

Tsubasa Syaoran isn't that much older than middle school Syaoran; he's like 13 in this season. Jason Liebrecht will still be my #1 choice, but I wouldn't object to other fitting choices that Funi has in mind. Will be on the lookout for the cast list.
said at 11:57 AM on Fri Jan 5 2018
@MizukaS I was thinking they might go with an actress to match the Japanese casting, but they might not. I really liked Jason's Syaoran so I'd certainly be happy to see him reprise. We should be getting the cast list in the next week or so, with the anime premiering tomorrow. Looking forward to the cast list!
said at 10:19 PM on Sat Jan 6 2018
I'm not entirely sure on Syaoran, but for Yukito, I'm almost certain that Robert McCollum is coming back for him.
said at 4:11 PM on Sun Jan 7 2018
@MizukaS I'm happy to hear that! Man...I haven't been this excited for a dub cast since Viz's Sailor Moon redub, haha.
said at 4:27 PM on Sun Jan 7 2018
The cast list still isn't out yet, so there's no confirmation on Robert returning. It's more accurate to say that I'm *hoping* for him to return as well, like Jason. Though he's more likely to return than Jason due to the character's age - Yukito's a college student in this arc, and he's always been voiced by a male VA in all the dubs.

That said, I am SUPER hyped on the cast list, too. Should be out this week or next week, I think.
said at 3:22 PM on Thu Jan 11 2018
@MizukaS To be honest, I'd actually prefer Luci Christian as Sakura with Monica Rial as Tomoyo instead. Then Brina Palancia as Syaoran, Maxey Whitehead as Kero (small form), and John Burgmier as Yue. Anyway, once we get it dubbed, I hope the voice compares for CardCaptor Sakura go beyond just Sakura and her dad. Like, almost as many voice compares as Sonic the Hedgehog gets. And I REALLY want Meilin to come back. There were hints that this might be a version of the Clear Card arc that follows the anime's continuity, and if it is, (and it should be in my opinion) they have no excuse for not bringing Meilin back.
said at 5:14 PM on Thu Jan 11 2018
I don't see any reason why Funimation should recast the CCS characters that already have established Eng voices to other VAs, especially when the established ones are great to begin with, and are hardly unavailable.

Yes, John Burgmeier would undoubtedly work as Yukito, since he does excellent bishonen voices, but I would still prefer Robert to reprise than recasting it to John.

And if Syaoran is gonna be more mature in this arc, then I'd much prefer Jason reprising than him sounding like he's still 10.
said at 5:31 PM on Thu Jan 11 2018
Also - I find Meiling to be relatively annoying. Her entire purpose in the first anime was to stand in Sakura's way in the pursuit of Syaoran's affections. Essentially, she was a romantic rival. Now that Sakura and Syaoran are an official couple, there's no doubt that she's packing all her things up and skedaddling back to Hong Kong.

I don't really mind if Meiling comes back, and I would prefer it if she doesn't.
said at 11:58 PM on Thu Jan 11 2018
@MizukaS Ah, gotcha.

No cast yet, but FUNimation has confirmed that the simuldub will go up on their site January 24th, so we should have a cast list by then.
said at 2:14 AM on Fri Jan 12 2018
Simuldub castlists usually roll out a few days before the official dub release. We should see one by the next weekend.
said at 11:47 AM on Fri Jan 12 2018
@MizukaS Awesome! I have a feeling we're getting Tsubasa reprisals, based on some stuff I'm seeing around social media.
said at 2:29 PM on Fri Jan 12 2018
It's heavily implied that Caitlin Glass is the director for the new arc, with Monica reprising as Sakura. If those sakura petals aren't a giveaway to this theory, then I don't know what is.
said at 5:48 PM on Fri Jan 12 2018
@MizukaS Caitlin would be great, and I'd be happy to see the Tsubasa cast reprising. I wonder who Natalie Hoover would be playing? Kero?
said at 1:55 AM on Sat Jan 13 2018
Could be the new girl for all we know. I don't think Natalie has ever played male characters for as far as I could recall.
said at 5:48 PM on Sat Jan 13 2018
@MizukaS That's a great guess. If not her, I'm guessing she could be one of Sakura's female friends or something.
said at 4:11 PM on Mon Jan 22 2018

Good news: Monica and Jason are back! :) No word on the rest of the cast yet, but I'm assuming they'll be bringing back all of the Tsubasa VAs...?
said at 10:03 PM on Mon Jan 22 2018
YEAH, I HEARD! YEEEEEEEEEEES! I have so MUCH incentive to watch the series now. This is the BEST news to wake up to on a morning!
BTW, the new series now has a page on this site, so I think we should continue further discussion there.
said at 10:59 AM on Thu Jan 25 2018
@MizukaS I was wondering if you've seen the second movie because Meilin was in it.

I would not mind if a Vancouver or other Canadian country were able to get VAs to redux Cardcaptor Sakura. From what I've heard the Animax dub has some undubbed lines in their version or broadcasts and does sound outdated, not to mention is not uncut as advertised, at least on the Blu Rays and DVDs. But, if they were able to do a great job, I would be all for it.
said at 12:40 AM on Tue Nov 29 2016
We have two English dubs of the series, but neither completely satisfies. It's a shame the uncut dub wasn't with the movie's LA cast.
said at 2:36 PM on Sun Apr 2 2017
to be honest this dub is very outdated but if they let Ocean Vancouver give them another chance with new anime series coming out this can be big improvement. Like look at bad dubs like original DBZ Funi, hellsing and yogioh but now look at DBZ Kai, hellsing ultimate and yugioh dark side of dimensions and see how the same actors/actress improved over time. Same thing can go for this if there give them a chance to redo there work. And besides it's bad enough that Vancouver doesn't get a lot anime to work on and funi screw them over with the shakugan no shana series also there Kai dub being cancelled. But with gintama and would trigger they may be light of hope.
said at 5:02 PM on Sun Apr 2 2017
@MadDude657 I love a lot of Vancouver VAs, so I would be down for hearing them get a second shot. I want more Canadian dubs out there. And I think fans would be willing to give them a chance so long as they did the dub uncut this time around.
said at 3:53 PM on Mon Jun 12 2017
@1dbad I wish whatever company that holds the rights to CCS here would maybe try what FUNimation did for their redub of "Vision of Escaflowne" and try crowdfunding as a way to see if a redub would be financially sound.
said at 7:54 PM on Wed Jun 14 2017
@whyofbladez That's a great idea!

@1dbad They did a great job dubbing Death Note and Black Lagoon.
said at 12:03 AM on Fri Jan 12 2018
@deltanine They did! Sadly the ship has sailed for Cardcaptor Sakura, but I do hope they get more anime to dub soon.
said at 11:00 AM on Thu Jan 25 2018
@1dbad The uncut dub was made in Singappore.

Heard both the dubs, to be honest I prefer the Animax dub voices over Nelvana, they are a bit stiff but their voices are okay enough(and not as bad as their Blue Dragon and Inuyasha dub) and it didn't have the edits Nelvana had
said at 12:51 AM on Fri Mar 18 2016
@HienFan I haven't watched this show, but out of curiosity I checked out a comparison.

To me, the Ocean voices definitely have better voice acting quality. But Animax at least is uncut and has the characters actually sound more like little girl voices rather than sounding more like grown women. It's probably an above average dub for Animax standards, compared to other samples I heard of dubs they did. Still suffers from flat performances at times.

Maybe my standards have been skewed on dubbing since seeing Speedy's dub of DBZ, but the Animax dub isn't really bad. Far from the best dub, but not as bad as many people make it out to be. The main problem pretty much stems from the fact that practically all the characters are voiced by the same people.

Keep in mind, this is the opinion of someone without nostalgia bias on this series.
said at 5:34 AM on Tue Mar 22 2016
@whyofbladez Gah Speedy DBZ don't get me on their Sailor Moon dub...

Another thing about Animax dubs is it seem to have a lot microphone issue the voice actors at least tried to sound different from one role to another but it's kinda uneven
said at 11:02 AM on Thu Jan 25 2018
@whyofbladez Animax's Fairy Tail dub was widely reviled. Good thing we're more familiar with the Funimation dub that truly did it justice. Also, there's a cartoon called Paddy The Pelican which had everyone voiced by the same guy.

I was wondering why this page has cast members who only appear in the second movie, and now I think I know why: it seems this page includes information from the TV show AND the movies.

@immblueversion that might be the case. this page was originally created on BTVA version 1 when there wasn't a movies section.

can you make a forum thread indicating which ones are the mistakes? thanks

@Foxwolf Sorry I took so long. It would appear that everything has been sorted out, save a few movie-exclusive characters.

@thomwim True. I don't think they are bad. Sakura is the same as the Japanese, just pronounced differentl I like the name 'Madison' too
