 6 Shout Outs!
I can understand the disappointment over the recasting (I wholly sympathise with Michael Sinterniklaas and the old cast members who were willing to reprise), but I hope the fans aren't taking their anger out on the new cast. The whole situation is out of their hands as well, and it kind of stinks knowing that, to some extent, this dub will be overshadowed by the original one regardless of the effort Michael McConnohie and the new folks put in.

And while I have no industry knowledge whatsoever to back it up, I suspect the Crunchyroll deserves a bigger share of the blame than either Bang!Zoom or Funimation.

@larkchronicles That being said, I'm sure Crunchyroll have their own reasons for not choosing to use the old cast again... I hope we get a clarification soon.

@larkchronicles Always good to give all parties the benefit of the doubt.

I have to say this. While I don't think it's a bad idea to express disappointment about them not using NYAV Post for the new Berserk anime, there has been quite an overreaction when it comes to the new cast.

@Shaun Ince you got a point, You have to see how the cast does in order to fully judge them while certainly you cant outdo the nyav cast, the fact you vas like Kaiji Tang,Steve Staley and Karen Stressman as the iconic trinity might pull off some good performances

 1 Shout Out!
Someone should see if the original cast is willing to do a fan dub, assuming FUNimation doesn't get their head out of their ass and brings back the original cast.
Almost all of the main 1997 and GA Trilogy's cast is on social media.

@Slingshot look as far as I know Carrie and Kevin are happily willing to come back but not for free unless the fan dub can pay as much as what nyav post payed them when they first made it
said at 2:10 PM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Abdullab Of course not. Maybe we put together a KickStarter or something.
I'm not expecting this to work, but it's better to try than to roll over.
said at 2:20 PM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Slingshot Definetly no harm in trying

This is the cast that I love. I just can't support the recasts.

@Unknownsage13 I understand how you feel, but that's just the way of business. They wanted to go with a different voice cast instead of using NYAV Post.

@Shaun Ince Is anyone else getting flashback to 2015 when Funimation announced the dub cast to High School DxD BorN due to how people are reacting to this change?
said at 4:40 AM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Ichigo341578926 Kinda. Although I think people are a LOT more disappointed about this one in comparison though.
said at 5:20 AM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@HylianBelmont I mean the majority of the DxD cast were still reprising their roles. The ones that got replaced were justified.

For Berserk, we don't even get that much. Totally different studio, an almost completely changed cast (except Chris Smith weirdly enough) and there's been not a single word from anyone involved as to WHY this happened.

Crunchyroll knew what the fans were asking for, they've seen Michael Sinterniklaas tweet about it and yet they still seemed to not even make an effort to get the studio or cast back. Fans have a right to be angry and disappointed on this.

@JRPictures Oh, I definitely agree there. It's especially weird that Marc and Carrie didn't return considering they're actually regulars at the new studio as well I believe?

But yeah. Definitely sucks for everyone involved:(
said at 11:01 AM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@HylianBelmont Well with Carrie I'm thinking that they probably didn't think she could pull of how Casca is in the 2016 anime. I know I questioned that while watching the sub. As for Marc I honestly can't figure that one out. On the up side the replacement is actually a good fit so I'm not going to complain about who they got instead (though I still would of liked Marc). In all honesty I feel that the voice replacement that seems like the least fit in this is actually Steve Staley as Griffith.

@Unknownsage13 These recasts don't make sense from an outsider standpoint either. Marc and Carrie were in HxH, a Bang Zoom dub, CREDITED, yet they cannot be in this? Some castings look cool (Mittelman as Serpico looks promising) but as a whole this dub seems phenomenally low effort (perhaps to better align with Berserk 2016 I guess).

@Ichigo341578926 I feel it's more akin to the Shakugan No Shana situation.
said at 4:04 PM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Shaun Ince True. And with both this and Shana I feel that the recast aren't bad (well except with Sato in Shana), it's just the fact that people didn't except the new voices after having the originals for so long. Even if the new ones were still good fits for their roles. I am still going to wait and see on Steve Staley as Griffith because that one I'm not so sure on.
said at 8:14 PM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Shaun Ince I don't think this is a money situation like Shana though. I think BangZoom or people involved in this dub (like possibly Michael McConnohie) just legitimately didn't care.

I guess a comparison to be made would be like how for Digimon Tri, the two Michaels both said no one even contacted them.

@Unknownsage13 That's quite an assumption to think that they didn't/don't care. I think it's best to hear it from the horses mouth themselves as to why they didn't go with the original dub cast.
said at 10:33 PM on Sat Mar 18 2017
@Shaun Ince Sean Schemmel says he knows the reason why they didn't get NYAV Post and that it wasn't money. Am I going to blindly take his word without any proof? No, but I'd say it's a little more likely than a money thing. Especially since Marc and Carrie work at Bang Zoom! and it seems they didn't even try to get them.

I don't have ill-will towards the new cast for taking the job, but my opinion of Crunchyroll, as of now, has been soured a bit.

@PsychicVoiceSpy It's likely, yes. But I want to hear it from Crunchyroll's mouth themselves. At least then we would know for sure.

@Unknownsage13 Even if it *were* a money situation (& I'm sure, in some capacity, being cheaper down the line, is at least a factor in it), the difference between NYAV & Bang Zoom is absolute pennies in comparison to Ocean vs FUNi. The only thing I can think of is: they thought the old VA's might want to bring everyone back, & they felt it wasnt even worth their time to bother with them. Or something like that.

I do think just using NYAV'd have been a tad more expensive than Bang Zoom. I'm not sure exact rates but I can imagine having to support connection between *two* studios takes a toll on budget in some capacity. I feel like maybe it's not that efficient (which is why the diversity may not be enough to get NYAV used more often in general).
said at 1:43 PM on Sun Mar 26 2017
@Shaun Ince It's not exactly a positive reason, so I'm pretty sure there's no incentive for CR to come out & explain why they did it. Clearly they anticipated there'd be backlash, but ultimately whatever negative issues outweighed the potential reaction. Either that or they just didnt care, I guess?

Anyway, as much crap as I tend to give FUNi for restricting their dub talent pool, I'll give them credit for at least not doing this sort of thing. They know what their fans want, & they do deliver in general. They dont exactly up the ante of dubs as a whole, but they *do* respond to fan feedback well, for the most part.

Guts and Griffith voice actors are probably one of the best casting of all time.

I'd say Berserk is one of NYAV Post's best dub in the early 2000's if not one of their best dubs of all time.

@Shaun Ince tbh it'd have been nice if Crispin Freeman had played a main character in this before moving to LA. It's a twisted way of going about this, but it may have given us a union dub for the more recent stuff. I'd never want to replace Diraison's Guts, but Freeman could definitely replicate that sort of performance as well.

The opening and closing songs are in English, despite the fact that they were produced by Japanese musicians.

The outtakes from the Berserk dvds are the stuff of legends. From Carrie Keranen's potty mouth to the legend that is Kevin T Collins singing.
