I do wonder whether they'll get Nolan North in this show at some point. He hasn't been in a Ben 10 cartoon since the original series back in 2005.

The casting just feels like they picked random Va’s to voice the aliens.

@Voiceactorfan1 still better than overusing Dee Baker

@Voiceactorfan1 None of these castings come across as random, at least to me. Most of these castings are new. They want to try new actors in these roles.

First Ben 10 cartoon had Steve Blum & Fred Tatasciore voicing the majority of characters. The 2008 cartoon had Dee Bradley Baker voicing the majority of the aliens, replacing voice actors in the previous show. The 2012 cartoon had Eric Bauza in a lot of the roles. Infact he has the most amount of credits in that show compared to anyone else.

For this show, it's David Kaye that's taking up most of the characters here. Cartoons like this with a large ensemble of characters are going to have lots of actors in them. It's also more cost efficient to have one actor take on multiple roles & it gives them a chance to show off their range.

I will say this, though I think it counts for all the Ben 10 franchise as a whole, regardless of what you think of each show individually, you have to admit, it does make great use of the voice talent. You get some new voice talent that you wouldn't expect to do voice work in these shows(Todd Haberkorn for example) And you also get the chance to see & hear how versatile some of your favourite actors are.

As for what I think of this show overall? It's decent. Not my favorite Ben 10 cartoon, but it's not that bad.

@Abdullab Yeah the 2008 cartoon overused Dee Bradley Baker, to where most of the characters he replaced former actors on, came across as miscast. For example when Cannonbolt was cast to Dee, it just doesn't sound right. He's done deep voices before but you're better off casting someone who's voice has a similar sound to Fred Tatasciore. That's why David Kaye & Travis Willingham worked while Dee did not.

While the series is still rather meh overall, the four part season 1 finale was honestly pretty amazing. I honestly had no idea what was going to happen, the action was pretty on point and it was dramatic when it needed to be.
I highly recommend checking it out...even if you skip the rest of the episodes.

Half the aliens sound like teenage surfer dudes and don't fit their designs at all. And Vilgax don't get me started on Vilgax whoever is in charge of casting should be fired.

The show's not perfect, but it's harmless and fun. It helps that the original creators Man Of Action are in charge of this series.

@Kruner White I honestly don't understand why either. But at least it gives different voice actors a shot at voicing these characters from the Ben 10 franchise.

Why is it that CN keeps putting out these "cutsie" animation, what ever happened to the creativity of Steven Universe or Regular show

@Coolpika1 I dunno about you, but I wouldn't really call Steven Universe or Regular Show's animation style leagues "better", "mature" or "creative" than what this show gives us... These all kind of seem on par with one another.

Is this a prequel to Ben 10 Alien Force/sequel to original Ben 10 cartoon or is this remaded from the original Ben 10 cartoon? I haven't seen this part of show yet since I left off right at Omniverse.

@Pancake_Scoodle John & Travis's voices are pretty similar. John is a bit lower & rougher, but usually more boisterous, he does the big dumb brute thing better. But both do it well lol.

Has Cartoon Network been going through budget cuts lately? I feel like this is a bit of a quality drop art wise compared to the original which went for a more anime-style.
said at 5:19 PM on Sun Dec 25 2016
@Unknownsage13 It's more probably trying to cash in on the past success of shows like Adventure Time or Steven Universe, which have somewhat similar styles to them.

Though the fact that the "imitation-anime" trend that was a thing back in the original show's day has long gone out of style by now might have something to do with it too.
said at 1:32 PM on Mon Dec 26 2016
@Unknownsage13 Just saying, anime tends to be much lower-budget than American cartoons like Ben10.

I'm going to be honest, the worst part of this isn't the animation, or the different alien voices, or the apparent inconsistent storytelling.

It's no Paul Eiding as Grandpa Max. :(

I mean David Kaye is probably the best guy they could get to replace him, but it still stinks not having Paul back.

>Art Style way too reminiscent of other Cartoon Network shows as of late.

>inconsistencies with continuity

>doesn't know whether it's a continuation or a reboot

>a lot of miscastings (IMO at least) with most aliens sounding TOO normal and human.

>NO Paul Eiding as Grandpa Max, I mean David Kaye is my fav VA but c'mon Paul IS Max.

>a few reprisals but very far inbetween. Feels weird having Tara Strong as Ben and Dwight Schultz as Dr. Animo back yet not having Paul Eiding as Max or Khary Payton as Hex.

>also feels weird having certain VA's who have been in the franchise before but as other characters like David Kaye, Dee Bradley Baker, Eric Bauza and Fred Tatasciore but not in the alien roles I know them before.

>Not having Dee Bradley Baker as any of the aliens, feels weird for the first time ever this happens.

Yeah I don't like this.

However this entire comment isn't completely negative.

I will say though I do like Todd Haberkorn's take on Grey Matter that said. Also nice having both Todd and Max Mittelman in more cartoons.

also heh Napoleon the pigs. I see what they did there. :p

I'm sure kids will love it but it's not for me.

Hopefully whatever comes next for the franchise is something that will appeal to me more.

also I bet the recording sessions are great for the amount of talent that's in them.

@Autovolt with a grandpa max THIS goofy I’m glad it’s a replacement. If I it was Paul it just be a waste of his talent.

It seems like the alien voices here have a tendency to just sound too plain. Like it's just the actor speaking in their normal voice. Really weird when the ones who do go for a more character-y voice sound pretty good.

@Nightmare Crusher
It is weird, Cannobolt and Fourarms excluding, they went with younger actors. Well Josh, Todd and Roger do change their voices for the roles.
It's an odd choice to say the least.

The animation took some getting use to, some of the jokes fall flat, it does the thing where it's a reboot but it also seems to also tie into the original series (like it implies Ben and Animo faced off a few times but then introduced Zombozo for the first time) and it sorta just misses the charm of the other series.

That said, I did chuckle a few times (mostly from the actors delivery than the jokes themselves and a few visual gags), there are some clever ideas, and the overall voice casts are pretty good. Not my first first choices for some of the recasts but I can't really think of a bad voice in the bunch.
I say a solid C, it's hit or miss with the misses not being too bad but the hits aren't too amazing either.

Oh and I did like what they did with Gwen. I liked she acted more like a kid instead of being over the top "mature" kid. She doesn't always look down at Ben, the two actually play games together and get along more but still argue. It's a nice change that still makes sense.
said at 9:07 AM on Thu Dec 22 2016
@Music Meister Yeah, that's a weird thing cartoon network does when they bring back older shows. Sort of half reboot them, where some things happened, but then others don't. It's at least the second time I know they've done this and I think PPG did it too at some point. Though it may be that for whatever reason when they start a new show, they almost always air episodes out of order, so maybe the other episode where Ben met Animo hasn't aired or maybe they're doing the half-boot again.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of these "requels". This show isn't the worst example (Xiaolin Chronicle would probably take that place) but I just feel if you are going to reboot something just do something new from the ground up.
Requels to come off as too safe.
said at 8:28 PM on Thu Dec 22 2016
@Music Meister Honestly it seems less safe to me. It ends up alienating both the returning and new audiences. The returners are confused by what happened before and what didn't and the newcomers aren't introduced to certain ideas and topics so they build less of a connection to those parts when they could just start over and have neither problem.
Music Meister (Moderator)
said at 2:56 AM on Fri Dec 23 2016
Very true, I guess I meant safe was the wrong word. I was more talking about how by making it both a continuation and a reboot it means they don't have to be as creative. Like why make an origin episode when we can assume they know what it is.
