FUNimation announced on Tuesday that they have acquired the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo. The announcement came after FUNimation's Facebook page acquired one million Facebook "Likes". The film was also picked up in Australia by Madman Entertainment for a theatrical release. FUNimation has yet to confirm their release plans for the new Evangelion film.
Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo is the third film in the four-part Rebuild of Evangelion film series, which reboots the series' universe. While the first film was a remake of the events at the beginning of the original Evangelion TV series, the subsequent films beginning with the second take the series in a different direction, making the series more understandable for viewers unfamiliar with the original show and films.
FUNimation has previously released the first two films to theaters in the United States, and the first film has also been shown on [adult swim]'s Toonami block. In addition, FUNimation has also released the first two films to DVD and Blu-ray in both remastered and standard editions.
