I realize this movie has its fans, but I still disliked "Wicked City." It COULD have been a potentially interesting film, but there's too much reprehensible sexual content and goriness for my stomach to stand. Visually, though, the film IS well animated and Kawajiri does direct this film as skillfully as any live-action director would, but I just cannot like this one.

@JTurner I for one, LOVE gross, dark, atmospheric, violent stuff like this. But from what I know of the sexual content in this movie... yeah, not my thing. From what I know of it it seems pretty disgusting.

@PsychicVoiceSpy Well, all the more power to you. I'm glad you like that kind of stuff; I get sick to my stomach too easily. WICKED CITY and NINJA SCROLL are both very difficult for me to sit through because of their violent content. It's odd, because the only movie I ever liked from this director was VAMPIRE HUNTER D: BLOODLUST, rather strangely.

@JTurner @PsychicVoiceSpy I definitely agree that this film is too over-the-top. And while I'm not into films like this, I could definitely take the level of violence/sex in Perfect Blue.

@JTurner I don't blame ya, the stuff can be very unpleasant. I tend to enjoy the visceral atmosphere rather than JUST the gore at face value. You could probably remove a lot of the gore from a movie like this, and I'd still like the creepy atmosphere of it about as much.

@Fulgore2005 Well, here's the thing: unlike WICKED CITY, which seems to have shock value just for the sake of it, PERFECT BLUE tells a very meaningful story. It's very much a "break the innocent" movie with very realistic, crushing parallels to what some famous people can go through when some fans go TOO far. That movie exuded a sense of realism. This one, on the other hand, went way too overboard in the gory factor for my tastes.

@JTurner That is very true. Perfect Blue did utilise violence/gore with reason, unlike this film.

@PsychicVoiceSpy Yes, that's exactly how I stand with this. Creepy atmospheres or "Adult" entertainment isn't defined by gore, it should be defined by mood. Had this film toned down the gory aspects I think I would have liked it much better.
