From the images, I think the characters look better in the show..

Finally took a look at this movie, i thought it was amazing, beautiful animation, great voicing, surprisingly dramatic yet exciting story and a waaay better Starlight and Twilight becoming friends moment (Now that is how you get a backstory and feel remorse after it)

but i can sorta see why there is mixed feelings, but i honestly loved it, though i really wish Discord, Starlight and Shining Armor was in it but oh well, was still a great movie over all and for any die-hard my little pony fans, this will please you

Hope they bring Tempest back in the future though, i know it probably won't happen, but we got Sunset Shimmer back in a short before, so i am optimistic XD

Wait a 'mo. How'd you guys managed to get proper credits so fast? The movie's not even out of theaters yet!

I mean, that's cool and all, I'm just generally happy and surprised--who's responsible for this sorcery? XD
said at 10:58 AM on Tue Oct 10 2017
@MasterBlaster The movie got leaked in HD a while back.

Speaking of which, try to see the movie in theaters if you can.

@SpongeBat1 Ah, I see. Had a feeling it was something like that. XD Thanks for clearing that up! :)

I will if I can--heck, I plan to! Just a bit scrapped for money for the time being. :D

If it helps a bit, I looked at imdb. The movie has three voice directors. Terry Klassen handles things with the main crew in Vancouver like on the main series. On the US side of things, the voice directors are Curtis Koller and Jamie Thomason.

Not going to lie the art style looks fantastic! And I'm glad they kept the VAs the same instead of hiring celebrities (unlike SOME MOVIE I CAN THINK OF). Anyways, I wonder if it'll be a hit. The MLP fandom is big (and somewhat toxic), but will that be enough to make it a success?
said at 9:47 AM on Sun Sep 10 2017
@Soul-dragon Aren't there plenty of movies based on ongoing animated shows that keep the same voice actors?
said at 10:25 AM on Sun Sep 10 2017
@immblueversion I was mostly referring to the Lego Ninjago movie (why).
said at 11:14 AM on Sun Sep 10 2017
@Soul-dragon Ninjago doesn't have the name brand value to justify not replacing the relatively unknown voice cast from the show. My Little Pony, at this point, has proven many times over to be a major success and can safely rely on its brand alone to get people into the seats, so the usual players are safe. Same goes for SpongeBob, the Simpsons and the Rugrats by the time they got their own movies. Compared to the likes of them, how many casual moviegoers can identify any character from Ninjago, let alone who voiced them?

This gotta win an Oscar or A Golden Globe. This movie is going to be a masterpiece. I can feel it. THIS MUST WIN THE OSCARS OR GOLDEN AWARD OR IMMA SMASH THAT GLASS OF APPLE CIDER ON MY HEAD!!!!!!
said at 6:30 AM on Thu Aug 24 2017
@ashviolet20117 It might win because there is no other competition this year.

@JonSeitz114 Implying the Oscars would give an award to a non-Disney movie

@SpongeBat1 which they have done repeatedly throughout history...
said at 1:27 AM on Sat Aug 26 2017
@OptimusSolo Oh, yeah. Could have worded that better.

Still, given how the Oscars treat animation, this movie will sadly more than likely be snubbed.

It makes me so happy to see a 2D animated film with a wide release in the theater again. Haven't seen one of those for...8 years I think

There was Spongebob even though that had CGI and live-action scenes. I think the last one I saw was Winnie the Pooh... Still can't believe how insane it was of Disney to release that on the same day as Harry Potter. Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.
said at 2:57 PM on Thu Jun 29 2017
@NCZ I still will not understand to this day why Disney chose to release Winnie the Pooh against the Final Harry Potter film? :/
said at 8:48 PM on Thu Jun 29 2017
@skeletonking1234 Traditionally-animated films (in North America at least) would probably have lasted a little longer if the TV-to-film trend hadn't basically gone bust in the early-to-mid 2000's.

Wait, what happened to using the actual voice actors who does those roles? I know Tara and Tabitha actually voices those pony
said at 6:41 PM on Wed Jan 11 2017
@kisa tiger Um... they are voiced by the actual VAs.
said at 6:17 AM on Fri Jan 13 2017
@kisa tiger What gave you the impression that the actual voice actors aren't in this movie? They're listed right on this page...
said at 8:50 AM on Wed Jan 25 2017
@kisa tiger Yeah like what are you even talking about? the original voices STILL and ALWAYS HAVE voiced the ponies
said at 6:57 AM on Wed Jun 14 2017
@Coolpika1 Given that Hollywood tends to prefer celebrities over voice actors, the characters being recast with celebrities actually was a possibility. For example, Janet Waldo reprised the role of Judy Jetson for Jetsons: The Movie, but her dialogue was rerecorded by pop singer Tiffany, who was originally going to do the singing for Judy. A more recent example is a the Ratchet And Clank movie, where Kevin Michael Richardson originally reprised the role of Chairman Drel from the video games, but the part was recast with Paul Giamatti. The fact that all the principal voice actors for MLP reprised their roles is satisfying.
said at 12:16 PM on Wed Jun 14 2017
@sofiablythe2014 I think it's more that stuff like The Jetsons, Ratchet & Clank and Ninjago (to throw in an extra example) aren't nearly as profitable as My Little Pony, The Simpsons or SpongeBob have proven to be, so when franchise value isn't enough, they have to compensate by promoting a big name or so to get people into the seats.

Usually with adaptations of established TV shows they compromise by keeping the main TV show cast and having stage/screen actors as guest stars. Nickelodeon movies, The Simpsons Movie, this, even the '86 Transformers movie took that approach.

Michael Pena and Liev Schreiber in My Little Pony The Movie.

Who actually saw that coming?

Especially Liev of all people.

I'm guessing he'll be the villain?

I mean the show already has another Sabretooth actor as a villain (Mark Acheson as Tirek) it'd be awesome if we had another one.

What? Liev Schreiber? Liev Schreiber in a my little pony movie? What is this?
said at 4:06 PM on Sat May 21 2016
@Lord Vok What's so odd about this? The show gave us the likes of John de Lancie--one of the coolest recurring actors in any Star Trek series--and paired him off with a character I can only describe as the cross between Satan, Darth Sidious, and Cell from DBZ. If the show can do that, there really is no limit to the kinds of actors and characters this series can give us.

Fun fact about Emily Blunt: her role in "The Devil Wears Prada" was the inspiration for Sassy Saddles. Now she has come full circle and landed her very own role in MLP canon.

Finally a My Little Pony movie worthy of the big screen.

I'm sure we'll see brand new characters voiced by celebrity talent. I hope they are at least are well cast choices.
said at 9:33 AM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@Autovolt I hope not because I'm a big fan of the Vancouver cast. Maybe there will be celebrities in the movie like John De Lancie and Wierd Al again. Other celebrities that would be cool to get would be Brian Blessed, Ben Kingsley, John Hurt, Tim Curry, Christopher Llyod, and maybe Kevin Costner.
said at 3:11 PM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@Autovolt Even if they do decide to go out of their way to get a well-known name or two on board for this picture, it'll likely only be for one, maybe two characters. I don't see DHX straying very far from Vancouver-based talent when they've shown themselves to be so capable already.
said at 4:56 PM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@CatsTuxedo I was hoping that there could be a connection with Watership Down and Freddie as F.R.O.7 with MLP: FiM. Most of my choices were based on those two movies (John Hurt for Watership Down and both Brian Blessed and Ben Kingsley for Freddie as F.R.O.7). Ben Kingsley actually narrated an animated 10 Commandments movie that had a Vancouver cast (also with Christian Slater and Elliot Gould). I just hope that they don't go for the route of The Jetsons Movie where they replaced one of the voice actors on the show with someone who was popular at the time (Tiffany).
said at 6:05 AM on Wed Feb 18 2015
@CatsTuxedo I'm hoping that's their plan.

There is no way I want to see the mane six replaced with celebrity talent.

Also I wonder what kind of plot this movie will have?
said at 9:59 AM on Fri Feb 20 2015
@Autovolt I just hope that they don't go in the same route as The Jetsons Movie where Judy Jetson's voice actress got replaced by a celebrity who was popular at the time. I did some research on The Powerpuff Girls movie and from what I could understand, Tara Strong, Cathy Cavadini, and Elizabeth Daily complained that they weren't getting paid a fair wage and Warner Brothers threatened that they's replace them with big name actresses if Craig McCraken didn't pay them a higher wage.
said at 2:42 PM on Fri Aug 7 2015
@CatsTuxedo How about Kristin Chenoweth? Is she a "well-known name"?
said at 2:59 PM on Fri Aug 7 2015
@Dogman15 She certainly has a degree of clout outside of voice-acting, so I'd say she qualifies.
said at 3:23 PM on Fri Aug 7 2015
@CatsTuxedo I'm wondering if they're interested in getting William Shatner because they want him for the movie. Having him in the show itself would be frickin' sweet, though. I can picture him as either a villain or Star Swirl the Bearded. And if they somehow get him in a scene with Discord, it'd be the closest thing we'd get to an exchange between Kirk and Q.
said at 9:34 AM on Sun Aug 30 2015
@immblueversion It'd be a good use for William Shatner's involvement having him voice in this movie.

and yes it'd be amusing if his character interacted with Discord/Q.
