I actually have this on VHS along with the Disney version. This was one of the first anime things I ever saw and one of the Darkest animated movies I saw as a kid. I personally recomend it because It is very true to the original story, though I have nothing against the Disney Version. Though this one came out first, many people nowadays are probably going to think it's a Disney ripoff. As a kid I thought that me and my sister were the only two people in the world who saw it. I'm glad there's such thing as IMDB and the internet where I got to know other people who have seen, heard, or own this movie.

Interesting. This looks like a movie the Nostalgia Critic would review.

This one was heartbreakingly true to the original Andersen fable, and so beautifully done.

Should this Little Mermaid belong in the same franchise as the Disney one?

@JayGirl10 Idealistically it should since the original story and characters of The Little Mermaid are attributed to a single author, as is the case with Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio.
