 1 Shout Out! [?]
We can all agree that the story is laughable but the movie itself kicks ass.

Yeah, this movie was the top of the box office when it came out: everyone wanted to see it, everyone loved it, and everyone started gushing over its beauty across the web. But how would people respond if I were to say that this movie is the definition of the word "overrated"?

It's a story we've seen a million times, its characters are forgettable, its message is misanthropic garbage, and it completely banks on its spectacular special effects (which are the ONLY thing people seem to enjoy).

Think about it. By complimenting a misanthropic environmentalist film (like this one), you're saying "we want more movies like this". And, trust me, more people would rather NOT want to see more of this type of film.

Films like this were old decades ago...what makes this one so special?

@Sarge Ray tooooooooooootally agree with you Sarge. Was it a good movie? Yes. Was it a great movie. I guess it could be seen that way. Was it best movie ever that pushed it to #1 in box office revenue? No.

I think it was the spectacle of the special effects, the help of the 3D ticket price and that it introduced us to such a believable fantasy world that people went back again and again to revisit this world. The story was solid but as you said, nothing new.

@Foxwolf

I think that "good" is still a bit too much for this movie. As I said, the story is weak. Granted, I do like the pseudo-science and the effects, but that's all. Nothing else in this movie truly grabbed me.

The GOOD news is that a friend of mine re-imagined the movie and it seems SO much more intriguing with a better message and a more interesting concept.

It should be here...

@Sarge Ray I agree. I liked the movie when I saw it at the theater, but other than the special effects, it's nothing memorable. When the special effects become dated, so will this movie as a whole (though already people have seemed to have begun to forget about it)....

The story is essentially Pocahontas meets Aliens...

@Sarge Ray You took the words right out of my mouth. Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone when I think this movie's overrated.

@Silence

It's also nice to know there are people out there who think the same. Heck, if you looked up "overrated" in the dictionary, you'd see the cover of this movie.
