Description:
Echoes of the Fey is an English-language visual novel series that combines the magic of high fantasy with the mystery of the classic detective novel. You play as Sofya Rykov, a private investigator operating in a town on the contentious border between the Humans and Leshin (Elves). While her job is to uncover secrets, Sofya has a dangerous secret of her own: unlike other Humans, she can use magic. It's a handy trick for solving cases in the rare instances she can control it.

Released episodes:
Episode 0: The Immolation - http://store.steampowered.com/app/585990/
Episode 1: The Fox's Trail - http://store.steampowered.com/app/511320/

The Last Sacrament will be the second episode in the series. Sofya's loyalty grows divided when politics clash over the town's water system. Her childhood love, who also happens to be the Emperor's daughter, seeks Sofya's protection from mysterious threats. But a ruthless politician wants to obtain a fourth drop of the Sacrament -- a forbidden act that is the greatest heresy against the Church--and he will go to any lengths to ensure that Sofya delivers it to him.

MATURITY
This project will have some curse words and adult themes. The overall rating is expected to be equivalent to Teen or PG-13

PAYMENT/ WORK LOAD
- Payment will be $0.50 per line. Lines are categorized as each block of dialogue that appears on the screen at once, and can range from about 1-40 words, typically 1-2 sentences. Payment includes at least two takes of the line, preferably more
- The amount of recording needed is not yet set in stone. Shortly after choosing the cast we will request a recording of expression lines (30-60 short lines of expressive dialogue). After that, we will request some scene dialogue over the next few months as our budget allows

CHARACTERS AVAILABLE FOR AUDITION

Collapse/Hide All Characters Expand/Show All Characters

Katerina Konstantinova Lapidus

Katerina Konstantinova Lapidus
Name: Katerina Konstantinova Lapidus
Gender: Female
Age: Teenager
Characteristics/Notes:
Katerina has a kind and empathetic nature, but she also grew up as the daughter of the Emperor during a time of warfare. Her kind nature is frequently in conflict with her need to firmly represent her father's interests and crush her opponents. She rejoices in any opportunity she finds to kick back and behave like an ordinary young woman. She hates being called "princess" or any other unnecessary flattery. This is why she enjoys Sofya's company so much. Sofya has never cared for politics, and always knows how to forget about all problems and have fun.

Katerina will mostly appear as an adult in the story, but there will also be flashbacks to her as a young teenager meeting Sofya for the first time. Therefore there are audition lines for both adult and teenaged Katerina (around 13 years old).

I imagine Katerina has having a soft, feminine, sensual voice

Line 2:
"ADULT KATERINA (angry): I thought people might throw vegetables at me or tag my carriage. Not actually take a SHOT at me!"
Line 3:
"YOUNG KATERINA: PLEASE don't call me that. I'm so sick of everyone sucking up to me. Just call me Kat!"

Nikolai Fyodorovich Melinkov

Nikolai Fyodorovich Melinkov
Name: Nikolai Fyodorovich Melinkov
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Characteristics/Notes:
Nikolai Fyodorovich Melinkov is the eldest heir of House Melinkov. House Melinkov is one of the wealthiest families of the west and one of the staunchest opponents to Imperial control of the borderlands. They are led by Nikolai's grandmother, Alma Melinkov. Nikolai is the heir because his father (Alma's son) died during the war and Alma's daughter is a church matriarch.
Nikolai never wanted the responsibility of leadership. He is a man who enjoys fine dining and classy entertainment. If he had his way, he would run a theater or prestigious tavern rather than control his family's domain. He also believes that his dying grandmother, Alma Melinkov, is much better suited to protect the family than he is. For this reason, he will use whatever tools he possesses to extend Alma's life and protect the family's interests in the meantime--even if that means breaking the most sacred law of the Krovakyn Church and blackmailing Sofya to help him.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We would like Nikolai to sing at some point in the game. Payment for recording song vocals will be a flat $50. Please include a singing sample with your audition

Audition Lines:
Line 1:
"You will do as I say, Lady Rykov. My sister has ten copies of this photograph. If I do not wire back to Volgrad with other instructions within the hour, she will send it to Patriarch Arkady here in Vodotsk. However, if you deliver the Sacrament to me, I will destroy every single copy of the picture and the glass impression."
Line 2:
"We are GOING to build a dam, and we'll make the Leshin pay for it!"
Line 3:
"Please include any singing clip here. It's best to include a background track with your voice so I can tell whether you're following the song's pitch and rhythm"

I Got a little ambitious with song choice but I have been playing it on repeat for a while and felt I had to do it in this voice lol. If you want me to resubmit a more reasonable audition let me know. Thank you for your time.

Hi there! This is my very first audition for voice over work, I would absolutely love to hear your feedback! What did you think, how could I improve? I hope to hear back!

@avaandwar Well done for a first try! I would suggest including multiple takes for each line in future auditions, trying a few variations for each take, to better demonstrate your range. For Katerina I'm looking for slightly deeper, older-sounding voice than the one you used

@mccannvoicestudios Nice job! I think your audition came really close to hitting the mark. It's hard to think of how to suggest improving it, other than the voice needs a bit more nuance--it sounds fully angry and cold throughout, without hinting at more depth to the character. Sorry if that's a bit vague but it's the best I can offer in terms of critique; nice job overall :)

@Kiteera Thanks for your audition! I liked your performance. However, I do imagine a softer, slightly higher-pitched voice for Katerina. Feel free to submit a retake to jenny(at)woodsy-studio(dot)com

@Kicammo22 Thanks for the audition! I appreciated the increasing degree of emotions you tried in your takes. Some of the takes fell a bit flat but I liked the bout of anger you gave Katerina in the last take of the second line. I'll keep you in consideration!

@Kayla Ott Thanks for the kind words and your audition! To be honest, the emotion in your reading felt a bit flat to me. I'm not sure if you practice any theater, but that could provide some good practice for you. I hope that's helpful!

@WoodsyStudio I haven't done anything like that. This is mainly a hobby that I'd like to take further. As of right now I can't afford any extra schooling, so I'm trying to basically do self teaching. I'm just really starting off with a good mic so I'm still trying to control my voice and put more emotion behind everything. ^_^

@arakachi Thanks arakachi, great audition! I like the emotional range you demonstrated between Katerina feeling scared and worried to getting angry. My main critique is that the recording itself was really quiet and I had to crank up my computer volume to hear it. You'll definitely be in my final considerations!

Regarding that singing clip, I'm happy to redo it with something more demonstrative of range if you'd like. It'd help me quite a bit to have you select the song, if that were the case.

@Paladin Great audition, it shows a lot of promise! Quick note: Nikolai should have just a clean American accent, but you had some takes in that style which sounded great. For the music clip, could you try including a background track with the song? I'm flexible with whatever song is convenient for you to use, but if you do need a suggestion, perhaps try a little of the "Phantom of the Opera" song?

Some questions on the singing clip:
Can we change the key to something comfortable?
Do you want it acapella or is it okay to add a backing/guitar track.
Should it be unprocessed as is typically requested with spoken lines or is it okay to add a little reverb etc.
Will there be flexibility on the key of the song in the game?
WoodsyStudio
said at 8:04 AM on Sat Mar 4 2017
@iDeeVoice You can change the key to something comfortable, no problem. A background track would be great. Unprocessed would be best. And yes, there will be at least a little flexibility of the song's key in the game, as it is an original piece that can be altered.

@Hangman Thanks for the audition, I thought it showed a lot of promise! I particularly liked the second version of Nikolai's voice you used in Line 1, which had sort of a casual menace to the tone. My main critique is that it sounded like you couldn't quite decide whether to give him an accent of some kind; he should speak with a clean American accent. The singing clip sounded promising, although I'm going to add to the description that it's best to have a background track so I can tell whether you're on key (sorry for not specifying sooner). Anyway, nice job and I'll certainly continue to consider you!

Any particular voice you had in mind for Nikolai?
WoodsyStudio
said at 2:08 PM on Thu Mar 2 2017
@Hangman Thanks for asking, but I'm open-minded at the moment! I imagine his voice as being in the deeper range, but it might occasionally sound somewhat pinched/flippant due to his conceit and high class

HELP
  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
• Why is there a limit to 4 active projects per member?
While a project owner is welcome to have as many active projects running as they wish outside BTVA, the limit is imposed because having too many active projects can be somewhat "unrealistic". We want those who are auditioning to feel that each project is getting the attention and quality it deserves given auditioners themselves are putting in their own time and effort. Once a project owner flags a project as "Completed", they are welcome to create a new project.
• Can I audition more than once for a character?
The system is built to allow ONE audition per character. This is to avoid having a number of auditions from the same member and making the project owner have to listen to all of them. For now, if you or the project owner wishes you to submit another audition, the project owner will need to "Delete" your audition. The project owner can do this in the "Edit Character/Manage Auditions" link.
• How do I flag a character as being Cast?
As a project owner you will see a "Edit Character/Manage Auditions" link for each character. Clicking it will allow you to Cast, Backup or Pass an audition. Casting a character will prevent new auditions from being submitted for that character.
• Why do I need a valid email address?
If you audition for a project and are cast in a role, you will notified by email.
