The vocoder Mr. Frank Welker used to play Soundwave in the first American series version is the Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus! Unknown if it's the Mk1 or the Mk2 version.

Jeff Bennett sounds exactly like the G1 version, but has more musical tone!

Interesting tidbit: when not altered by vocoder, Welker's Soundwave voice is his Dr. Claw voice.
