Mr. Krabs: "Hey, Squidwart. You haven't seen any sign of... you know...[whispers] the cops! Have ya?"

Squidward: "Did you just call me 'Squidwart'?"

It's interesting that Mr. Lawrence was the first choice for the role of Squidward in the beginning (before he has become the voice actor of Plankton).

I'm wondering how his Squidward would have sounded like.

I'm just wondering who his new German voice is going to be. The late, great Eberhard Pruter is going to be one tough act to follow.

I truthfully give all of my empathy to this character. The torture he receives in this new episodes is just cruel and sadistic,on the part of the writers.Whats even more disturbing is how is some of the most recent episodes, such as are you happy now and squidwards enhanced tiki dream they play the philological scars that he received from his tortures in a realistic manner .

This just of of the innumerous sins the post/movie spongebob seasons

@DVJ He's also the strongest cartoon character I know. Even with all the torture he goes through, he comes back in one piece, as proud and self-satisfied as before. What's more, in the last episode we saw him in, he burst on the screen as a certified badass. And he gets superpowers in the latest movie. I think that after all these years, things are starting to look up for the better.

@DVJ And look how he changed! In the first movie, he turns down an adventure without hesitation (understandably). In the second, he is bravely marching up to the surface along with the others. If that's character development, I don't know what is.

@BlankSlate I don't think he will go willingly on that adventure,he will more tha likely be forced into it one way or another.

@DVJ He's tenacious enough. That's what I love him for, his tenacity. Like the Nostalgia Critic.

And both of them share a common ancestor/inspiration: Daffy Duck.

@DVJ Also, he's got a really cool house. Seriously, an Easter Island head as a house? That's awesome!

Poor Squidward, along with Plankton and Gary, he is the only likeable character on the show nowadays, but he always get tourtued like in House Fancy, Pineapple Feaver, Choir Boys, Slide Whistle Stooges, ect. I have to say that some of the new episodes do have a shot at being decent but they either have to put Squidward or SpongeBob in the episode, and when ever one of them is present, SpongeBob will tourture him. SpongeBob was the one who cause the Infamous toenail scene from House Fancy, where it showed Squidward's toenail being ripped off.

@CartoonFreak666 Yes, but House Fancy plays out in his favor! He wins at the end of that one! I do agree with everything else though.

I did like him when he was a funny, kind of jerkish practical joker as well.

I remember watching the later seasons of the show, when poor Squidward Tentacles became the show's only sympathetic character...

Who's the barniclehead that wrote Squidward is an octopus?

@pete I did, because he IS an octopus, despite the name. This has been confirmed by members of the show's staff, including Rodger Bumpass himself.
