Congrats to Keith and Tia & Robbie and Kira.

Pretty interesting to see a lot of new faces and first time VA of the Year nominees.

I wonder who'll make the cut for the next awards.

Ugh, voice actors is tough. Your really going to make me choose between 3 of my favorite voice actors Robbie Daymond, Josh Grelle, and Greg Ayres :/ Voice Actress is just as tough for me can't decide between Brina Palencia, Caitlin Glass, and Tia Ballard >.< I'm torn.

Four categories? What a shame we waited 12 months for this.

Can't tell if you're sarcastic or ignorant. If you're new around here the General section for Anime has always been 4 categories. TV & Movies have 5 categories each. What more do you exactly want? Anime (dubs in particular) are pretty niche to begin with. If you want cartoons and video game stuff there's the main awards for that which are a separate event...

Wouldn't this make more sense to have this be for 2017 (shows that did finish recording)?

As some people already mentioned the awards can be delayed if the staff are waiting on movies that were released theatrically but are not yet available digitally or on disc.

Also if you think about it why have it for 2017? Technically there are still some simuldubs airing and although they'll carry over into 2018 what if some of their final 2017 episode had great material for clips.

You saying the staff should ignore possibly better performance material and choose earlier but weaker dialogue all for the sake of a faster launch?

Also FWIW I agree it's a little confusing but here's how I remember it.

The year the awards happen e.g. 2017 is always for the year BEFORE in this case 2016

So whenever a 2018 awards happens it'll be for 2017 work not 2018 work.

A better example is this

the 2018 Oscars. It happens in 2018 right? But it's not for 2018 movies because the year is still young and only a fraction of eligible movies have been released. They recognize movies from the previous year being 2017.

Long story short

BTVA Award Year does not = Year of Work Recognized

So, I'm abstaining from voting on either Breakthrough category, because I didn't watch any of the shows those actors are in.

Surprised Jessica didnt get nominated this year since AOT s2 had a bigger role for her
said at 2:40 PM on Fri Dec 29 2017

AoT S2 = 2017 not 2016. Maybe she gets nominated next awards (in 2018 for 2017 work).

Btw one role wouldn't make her VA of the Year. This section seems to be heavily based on quantity; a couple big roles isn't enough to get a nomination but I could be wrong. Staff probably have their guidelines for own these things are decided.

I'd be shocked if Vic Mignogna doesn't win People's Choice so I look forward to the Staff Choice.

Also doesn't feel that long ago that some of these people were nominated as Breakthrough VAs and now they're among some of the best. #TrustTheProcess
