Hey, everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that, if you want to, they have BTS submissions for the previous season up as well. I already submitted all five of mine and they were a lot of fun to do!
Judging by that one vote for me, someone around here either has ears of iron or enjoys pain :/ It's kind of odd that the first vote I ever get from these behind-the-scenes things is for my worst voice recording yet.
TheMisakiDubs wins my vote. Why? She not only gave good performances, she also provided a little differentiation between the two voices, not much, but hey, at least she did it. Most of the other people I listened to just used the same voice for both of the characters. It's not hard to differentiate a hero and a villain, it is easy!
First time voicing Transformers and I must admit I had never heard of the two options we were given so I went with my gut and created my own take on them.
@AWIG Just so you know for future, while none of the rounds are meant to be imitation rounds, if you want to listen to the characters' voices to use as a reference, you can usually just look them up here on the site. Most of the time they have sound files for them; every character used in this contest has so far. Some even have voice comparisons, so you can hear the different ways some characters have been voiced by different VAs. I find it can be helpful to listen to the different ways the characters have been voiced and hear if any of them are similar to something within my range so I can use one as a base to help form my take on the character. You might find it helpful to try that one time. You still did a good job without a voice reference though. ^_^
@The Flaming E Thanks, I totally forgot to check if they had sound files for them. Originally my Cyclonus was going to be scrawny with a foul voice but I decided for a pompous voice.
Wow, if I'd actually listened back to the clip and heard how horrible the sound quality was (seriously, I have no idea how that happened), I never would've submitted it. I may as well warn you all right now to just not bother listening to my clip; it's close to unlistenable.
First time i tried to do the voice of Wheeljack. The only voice i've been doing this year was Optimus, Starscream and Soundwave... And Soundwave is really rough on the throat.
Atleast, it wasn't the G1 version of Wheeljack.
Self-commentary time:
My Wheeljack is basically a bad Jim Cummings impression with some Italian accent thrown in (the red, white and green on Wheeljack's person steered me in that direction). Beforehand, I thought about how thick I should make the accent before it gets in the way of the acting. Then I decided I should just pronounce what feels natural as I'm doing it (the trill on "Rotorstorm" came out of me spontanously), so if the accent seems to slip in and out through the performance, that's probably why.
While I'm starting to consider the possibility that deeper voices just aren't my strong suit in voice acting, I nevertheless based my voice for Cyclonus in Lloyd Sherr's version of Saruman as heard in the video game Lord of the Rings: The Third Age.
You can bet that my throat was kinda sore for a while after recording for this round :P
@CatsTuxedo While I don't feel that it fit the character, I REALLY liked the voice you made for wheeljack. But you really need to mind the static! There was so much I got a jolt from my mouse!
