Final - Theme: Star Wars

I recorded the Emperor & Cad Bane conversation last year when the final round of Season 1 was still going. I forgot completely about it until today...figured I should upload it. :)

Congrats to Pgirts, well done! And congrats to Stingervoice, as it was a true feet to come in as a person totally new to VO and make such an impact, I think it's safe to say that I will be hearing both of you in various forms (and voices) for many years to come! It has been great taking part in this competition and I can't thank everyone who voted for me enough. It may not have been my time to win but I am grateful for all of the feedback that I will use to improve on my talent. It has been a great experience.

So we have our first ever AYVO champion!! Congratulations Pgirts on being the standout voice actor amongst a pool of 16 astounding talents.

A big thanks to all our finalists for making this such a fun and successful contest and to our BTVA community who followed and voted.
I have personally had a blast from start to end and cannot wait for Season 2.

Congratulations PGirts! You did a fantastic job against some formidable competition, most notably Stingervoice. My hat is off to you!

I know everyone's on the edge of their seats. The winner will be announced in a couple of hours.

Challenge #1: I am going to be honest, this was both of your weakest one. PGirts, you sounded like you were advertising the next episode of the Adam West Batman, or the Super Friends. Which would have been fine for something of that like. I almost expected you to suddenly say "See you next time. Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!"
Stinger, you sounded more like an actual narrator, but, it seemed like you were not that interested in the story. That may not have been the case, but your inflections seemed to imply a kind of disinterest. Still, your take on it was more fitting of a narration and seemed more serious.

Challenge #2: This one both of you performed much better on. Pgirts, it was very easy to distinguish Sidious from Cad Bane. Both characters had their own speech pattens and sounded like two separate people, the inflections were good, too.
Stinger, while your inflections were solid and the acting solid, unfortunately, they both sounded like you, and not two people.

Challenge #3: Pgirts, your Anakin sounded a little too old at first, I guess you were trying for an out-of-breath voice. Still, you performed quite well as him, the inflections were all there, and you captured Hayden Chistensen's over-acting in the film quite well. As for your Obi-Wan, he sounded a bit too young. It is hard to describe, but something about it just seemed off, the acting was good, and the inflections were well done, there was just this odd feeling of something missing.
Stinger, this was, in my opinion, your best one. I could easily tell Anakin and Obi-Wan apart, and both seemed to fit the way the movie counter-parts were speaking. Your Obi-Wan, in my opinion, was better than PGirts. It seemed more like an older man trying to reason with a student than his did. As for the Anakin, honestly, I think you both are tied on that one.

Overall, you both have done quite should be proud of yourselves.

I am waiting with bated breath to see who the winner is! What an exciting competition to watch! My vote went to Stingervoice, because I really believe he captured the emotion necessary, especially for the Anakin/Obi-Wan part. I think both contestants did a great job, and each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

I have to say it is really upsetting to see some of the mean comments made towards Stingervoice. I know Pgirts has some pretty dedicated fans, and that's awesome, but we can all act like adults, right? Show some grace, guys.

Pgirts and Stingervoice - you guys have both done an AMAZING job! I have followed this competition since the audition stage and I have loved hearing all of the performances!

Good luck to both contestants! You both did a bang up job! It seems you're both very gracious, even in the face of some pretty nasty comments being made here. Good for you for rising above! The only thing I will question is the logic of companies looking for voice actors if they don't hire both of you after this! LOL

Girts, I'm not really feeling your narrator voice all that great. I just feel that Stinger's got the better narrative voice, but all of the other voices you did just destroy Stinger out to the blue. I will question the logic of people if you don't win

As I have done each round, my vote goes to PGirts because each round he has not only astounded my ears but touched my soul. Your talent is boundless and each round you have rocked it out.

Don't stop believing. It's a never ending story. Your voice is magically delicious. Would you like hear that again?

I voted for stingervoice because he had the most impressive voice acting skills, in my opinion, during the entire competition, especially as a beginner. I think the voters shouldn't just vote on the actor just on this week's challenge alone, but they should look over every challenge throughout the competition. Good luck!

Stingervoice was really impressive, thought he brought something new and original to it. By far the best. Hope you win man! You just got yourself a big fan!

I like Stinger's Narrator and Obi-Wan the most, his Anakin is pretty good although I don't know much about his bcharacter before the whole Darth Vader dealy, hell your Anakin sounded like Vic Mignona at times (not a bad thing mind you). My main problem is your Bane and Sidious; Bane is a little generic and Darth sounds a tad too young. Also your acting was awsome in all of the clips

PGirts is awesome, hands down. Stinger did well too but PGirts got him beat!

I really like Patrick Girts' voice acting.

Man, that PGirts is really something!! It felt like he was right there on the floor playing with the Star Wars action figures!! The Force is really with him!!

Hmmm.... this was different. I'm not sure how useful my critique will be, but here I go:

Challenge #1: both takes were interesting, but neither is how I pictured the narration in my head when I read it. Neither were bad, but Pgirts' take sounded a lot like a parody. I know very little about Star Wars, so I have no idea how it was said in wherever it came from, but I thought that, at least in this instance, StingerVoice was slightly better since I felt he sounded a tad more like an actual narrator. It was a little bland, but I thought it worked to some extent.

Challenge #2: This one goes to Pgirts. I could tell both voices were him, but that was only because I knew it ahead of time. If I was watching that on TV, I probably wouldn't have guessed they were both performed by the same person. There were times where it was more obvious than others, but I felt he overall, did a superior job. Now, that's not to say that StingerVoice's performance isn't good as well. His "Darth Sideus" voice was much better than his "Cad Bane" voice. His delivery for Darth Sideus was very respectable even if the voice sounded a lot like a young person playing an older guy, but that's why they almost always cast real older males in these roles (though Troy Baker ad Mike McFarland are both great at old men voices). StingerVoice's Cad Bane voice was kinda "there" at the beginning of the clip, but it got slightly better. There was one point where it sounded almost exactly like his Darth Sideus voice. But on their own merits, the delivery for both characters was very good.

Challenge #3: Here, the best performance was Pgirts' Obi-Wan Kenobi. It sounded like an older (but not elderly) man with a frail voice passionate about his pupil. StingerVoice's take on the character was a little young sounding, but as with the last challenge, his delivery was still pretty good. As for Anakin Skywalker, neither was perfect. I felt StingerVoice was better at Anakin than he was for Obi-Wan since his voice and delivery were both decent, but not perfect. Pgirts did overact on his Anakin likes IMO, and his voice sometimes sounded a tad too mature, and it was hard for me to believe that that was coming out of a rebelling teenager's mouth (I'm assuming he's a teenager, but even so, young adult can apply here too). Both VAs did a good job on the "I hate you" line which I felt was very important. I don't think Anakin really hated him, but that he was simply very confused at everything going on around him. He didn't know what side to take, who to trust, and was extremely angry, and blurted the line out. I liked that both of you captured that feeling. It could've been better, but I was impressed at what both of you brought to the table.

Great job you guys! I thought you both did a respectable job on all three of these challenges, but I'm giving Pgirts the edge, but both of you have the potential be be very great. Neither are perfect, but if you were, what more would there be to work on? That's what makes any kind of art or talent more exiting.

This decision this time was very easy .PGirts brought out all the characters ,i know my Star Wars .But to all the voices ,from the beginning to the final ,all of you have talent ,and i have enjoyed voting .

Pgirts has my vote, he is the master at this!

Here are my critiques.

Challenge 1: This challenge is won by Stingervoice. I thought Pgirts sounded too much like a cartoon TV reporter (kind of like Tom Tucker from Family Guy, but not exactly) to be taken seriously as a narrator. While I wished there was a little more emotion to Stingervoice's narration, it wasn't at all boring to listen to and it helped draw me into the story.

Challenge 2: This challenge has Pgirts as the champion. I truly got the impression of two separate people talking to each other through Pgirts's performance. The Steven Blum-like voice for Cad Bane was a little surprising at first, but it helped keep the voice different from Darth Sidious's voice, so I can't really complain. Stingervoice, I commend you for making Darth Sidious sound a little different from Cad Bane, but there was still plenty of the same voice in both characters. Maybe if Sidious's voice was deeper, it would've been better.

Challenge 3: This is the toughest one yet, since both did an amazing job with the lines here. Both did a decent enough impression of Obi-Wan to keep with continuity, and still make the voice their own. As for Anakin, both had their own takes on the character descending into madness, and both pulled it off well.

This competition has been really fun to follow and progressively harder to make decisions for. Both of the finalists did a spectacular job, but in my opinion, the first Act Your Voice Out champion should be Pgirts.

PGirts sounds boss. My vote for him!

I will do an objective breakdown.

#1
Pgirts-Sounded like a narrator. However, it seemed forced a little bit on the side of being too animated.
StingerVoice-Reminded me a voice actor doing a briefing scenario for a video game, straightforward and bland. It was not forceful like in the actual movie.
#1Edge- StingerVoice. Both contestants failed to hit the same feeling and force given by the actual Narrator from the series. So, I have to go with who gave a better performance. StingerVoice.

Edge#2-Pgirts. Let's just get this one other with. Pgirts hit the voice and character of both Sidious and Bane extremely well. StingerVoice's Sidious sounded in his 30's while Bane sounded not like a confident, experienced bounty hunter, but an over-confident d-bag.

Edge#3-Both had good quality takes for both characters. However, StingerVoice's quality was that of a good VA for a poorly dub anime and Pgirts' actually was very. close to both characters.

Winner-PGIRTS

Here's my honest critique:

I think both put forth a very measurable amount of energy here to the point that I'd believe it if I heard it in a cartoon show, Anime, etc. You both got that down pretty damn well.

But here's the thing, I voted for Pgirts because the range is a lot more prevalent. Now I don't want to say that RANGE is the only thing that matters when it comes to acting, because it damn well isn't. But when you are having a conversation with another character that you just-so-happen to be voicing as well, you want to differentiate the two so the audience can't really tell that they are the same actor.

Stinger, when I listened to Cad Bane and Palpatine, I heard your voice as both characters, there was a little inflection you added onto Palpatine’s voice but overall it sounded too young and way too similar to Cad Bane. This by no means is me telling you I think you did a bad job with the material, you acted very well, but when you have two characters that you need to supply your voice for, you need to make them sound as distinct as humanly possible. Why do you think Seth Macfarlane, Dan Castellaneta and Frank Welker are cast in so many dual roles, because each voice sounds completely diverse from the other for the most part.

The part I felt you did a fairly good job at was the narration, but alas that had it’s semblance of discontinuity as well. There felt like way too many awkward pauses and motions, as the narrator you need to keep reading your material consistently with the proper inflection, which you had, and without a moments stuttering.

I felt that you did a pretty damn good job with Obi Wan though, I really do. It felt as though placement of the lines were too far apart though, but I don’t think that was your fault. You also did a pretty good job with Anakin that much cannot be denied, but alas in terms of delivery, pacing, and overall naturalistic flair I’d have to go with Pgirts.

I feel as though too many voice actors rely ONLY on their voice to carry on a performance but that should never be the case. Acting comes first and foremost and it needs to be believable, just as if you were watching films like the Bourne series. It feels natural as if a conversation is actually genuinely happening. But that’s not your fault Stinger, that, to me, is the fault of the medium.

I hope you’ll take my critique into consideration for all future inquiries. And please do not take offense, I only wanted to be honest as a critique should always be.

I place my vote for you Pgirts, unto your path to victory.

Stingervoice got my vote! Mind-blowing as ever! Your Obi-Wan was especially amazing, you nailed the emotion -betrayal, pain, sadness- perfectly.

Narrator I have to give to Stinger - just a nice natural 'announcer' voice there.

Darth Sidious & Cad Bane I have to give to Pgirts - He just made the two voices more distinct and his Sidious was more believable.

Anakin I have to give to Pgirts just barely although I thought Stinger had the better last line and scream afterwards

Obi-Wan I have to give to Pgirts you had that voice nailed man!

Oh gosh.. that conversation at the end nearly made me burst into tears you two!! And I'm more of a Trekkie! LOL But goodness, wow, that was incredible. I've been voting each round but haven't really said much, so now I'm going to give my final thoughts, both positive and negative. If it offends anyone I apologize, but this is how I see (hear) it. ^^"

Personally my vote went to Pgirts once again. Mr. Pgirts your voice is so genunine! There's something about the quality and emotion in your voice that makes your acting REAL. As if you really are the character, and that really is important when it comes to voice acting. You're spot on with giving these well known characters a new twist while still keeping the strength of the scene. Your range is fantastic, and there's many genres of shows I could certainly hear you in.
But the only character who really needed some tweaking (IMO) was the narrator. He sounded a bit too CAPS LOCK, as in, he was shouting to me the info. It got my attention, but I certainly didn't want to hear him twice. xp

Stingervoice, with your voice, its unique for sure and you can also cover many genres, but it seems like you lost your cool in this round because of how you delivered your lines. Your narrator sounded very unsure to me, there was alot of awkward pauses, and your second set of characters sounded VERY similar so I colud barely tell them apart. But your Anakin? Superb. honestly, I love it alot, he was your best here, and that scream at the end was TOO GOOD. hahah

All in all, we have two very talented men here, personally I've been voting for Pgirts since round 2, and he has kept my vote until the end. But either of you could win, it jsut depends on the rest of us. ^^

Obi Wan is a Sith!! Want proof?? He basically says so right here: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." That right there is an absolute! So wth Ben Kenobi?? Never liked the SW Prequels... messed up Star Wars and never made sense.

I noticed the scene from ROTS included some lines that weren't in the movie. It should be interesting to see how they're interpreted. =)
