Final - Theme: Star Wars
All members of BTVA are welcome to submit a performance for voice acting practice or just for fun! See below for details.

Congratulations to
Pgirts and
Stingervoice on making it to the first ever
Act Your Voice Out finale!! Thanks so much to everyone who has participated in the contest so far whether it be as one of our amazing finalists, a voter, a commenter or simply a follower. We are now down to the final two in an all-out vocal brawl to the finish. However, before a winner can be crowned you both still have not one, but
THREE CHALLENGES in front of you. We present to you Round 5, aka The Final Round... which takes place in a galaxy far far away!!
CHALLENGE #1Up to this point you have delivered both lines and monologues for the various characters we have presented you with. In Challenge #1 you will once again tackle a monologue... HOWEVER, this time it will not be for a character, but for a NARRATOR! A narrator in a short period of time must capture the listener's attention, engage them and hook them into the content matter. Most importantly a narrator truly must act with his voice alone!
"A galaxy divided. Striking swiftly after the battle of Geonosis, Count Dooku's droid army has seized control of the major Hyperspace lanes. Separating the Republic from the majority of it's Clone army. With few clones available, the Jedi generals cannot gain a foothold in the Outer Rim, as more and more planets choose to join Dooku's Separatists. While the Jedi are occupied fighting a war, no one is left to keep the peace. Chaos and crime spread and the innocent become victims in a lawless galaxy. Crime lord Jabba the Hutt's son has been kidnapped by a rival band of pirates. Desperate to save his son, Jabba puts out a call for help. A call the Jedi are cautious to answer..."
CHALLENGE #2
So, far in this contest we have yet to involve you in actual conversation pieces. That ends now! In Challenge #2 you will be asked to do something many voice actors do in their careers... to have a CONVERSATION WITH YOURSELF! You've already voiced two characters in Round 3, but now, it is even more important to provide us with two completely distinct voices not only in sound but in speech patterns and inflections as well. You have to make us believe that two different people are conversing with each other.
Show Lines
(The dark lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious, hires a bounty hunter to steal a Jedi Holocron, a device that stores mass amounts of secret and historical data of the Jedi)
Darth Sidious: "Excuse the interuption. As I was saying, Bounty Hunter, I have need of your services."
Cad Bane: "I'm listening."
Darth Sidious: "I need a Jedi... Holocron."
Cad Bane: "To get a holocron, I'd have to break into the Jedi Temple. It's impossible. Not to mention... deadly."
Darth Sidious: "Perhaps your reputation has been exaggerated."
Cad Bane: "I want a Rogue-class starfighter with elite weapons, cloaking device, the works. Oh, and... triple my usual rate."
Darth Sidious: "Your price is of no concern. I will also provide you with the means to get inside the Temple."
Cad Bane: "You've got a deal."
Darth Sidious
Darth Sidious was perhaps one of the most powerful, ruthless and successful Sith Lords the Jedi ever came across. Gaining his foothold in the Political arena by posing as both a Senator and later both as a Chancellor and an Emperor, Sidious, also known as Palpatine, was responsible for not only turning Anakin Skywalker to the dark side but also for nearly wiping out the entire Jedi population. His force powers and mind control were virtually unrivaled.
Cad Bane
One of the most successful and deadly bounty hunters during the Clone Wars era, Cad Bane became the leading mercenary in the galaxy after the death of Jango Fett. Bane's loyalty was to money, (or credits) alone. Having very few redeeming qualities and being driven by greed alone, Bane worked not only for the Sith but also at times for the Hutts.
CHALLENGE #3
For the last challenge, you will do one of the most common things voice actors do during a gig. In Challenge #3 you will voice ONE SIDE OF A CONVERSATION without being able to hear the other voice actor's side of the conversation. Due to scheduling conflicts and time restraints, voice actors are often in the recording booth on their own, having no idea what the other characters in the scene sound like. We have chosen one of the most powerful scenes in Star Wars history... the final battle between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
You will record each line as a separate clip and submit all of them together. We will merge clips from both finalists to form the full conversation. In the interest of fairness, you will be asked to record both characters, ie. both sides of the conversation.
Show Lines
(Anakin, who has now turned to the dark side of the Force is blindly convinced that the ways of the Sith is how the galaxy should be governed. His wife Padme tries to convince him to change back to the person he used to be. However, Anakin becomes angered when he believes that she has brought his Jedi mentor Obi-Wan to bring him into custody for his criminal acts. Obi-Wan does his best to persuade his former student, his friend, that his new path is wrong. Words then lead to an epic lightsaber battle.)
Anakin: "You're with him. You've betrayed me! You brought him here to kill me!"
(Anakin reaches out, and Padme grabs her throat as she starts to choke.)
Obi-Wan: "Let her go, Anakin."
Anakin: "What have you and she been up to?"
Obi-Wan: "Let her go!"
(Anakin releases his grip on the unconscious Padme and she crumples to the ground.)
Anakin: "You turned her against me."
Obi-Wan: "You have done that yourself."
Anakin: "You will not take her from me."
(Anakin throws off his cloak.)
Obi-Wan: "Your anger and your lust for power have already done that."
(Obi-Wan flings off his cloak.)
Obi-Wan: "(continuing) You have allowed this Dark Lord to twist your mind until now . . . until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy."
(They circle each other until Obi-Wan is near Padme. He places his hand on her.)
Anakin: "Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, justice, freedom, and security to my new Empire."
Obi-Wan: "Your new Empire?"
Anakin: "Don't make me kill you."
Obi-Wan: "Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic ... to democracy."
Anakin: "If you're not with me, you're my enemy."
Obi-Wan: "Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes. I will do what I must."
(ignites his lightsaber)
Anakin: "You will try."
(Anakin ignites his lightsaber. Anakin lashes out at Obi-Wan, and they begin a ferocious sword fight. The fighting is long and intense, but Obi-Wan is forced to be on the defensive.)
Anakin: "Don't make me destroy you, Master. You're no match for the dark side."
Obi-Wan: "I've heard that before, Anakin... but I never thought I'd hear it from you."
(The battle intensifies.)
Obi-Wan: "The flaw of power is arrogance."
(Obi-Wan stands looking at his former apprentice for a moment.)
Anakin: "You hesitate... the flaw of compassion."
(Obi-Wan and Anakin continue the swordfight. They battle away over a river of lava, balancing on a tiny platform and a puzzled droid. Anakin, standing on the Droid, approaches Obi-Wan on the work platform.)
Obi-Wan: "I have failed you, Anakin. I was never able to teach you to think."
(Anakin and Obi-Wan confront each other on the lava river.)
Anakin: "I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over..."
Obi-Wan: "From the Sith!!! Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil."
Anakin: "From the Jedi point of view! From my point of view, the Jedi are evil."
Obi-Wan: "Well, then you are lost!
Anakin: "This is the end for you, My Master. I wish it were otherwise."
(Anakin jumps and flips onto Obi-Wan's platform. The fighting continues again until Obi-Wan jumps toward the safety of the black sandy edge of the lava river. He yells at Anakin.)
Obi-Wan: "It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground."
Anakin: "You underestimate my power!"
Obi-Wan: "Don't try it."
(Anakin follows, and Obi-Wan cuts his young apprentice at the knees, then cuts off his left arm in the blink of an eye. Anakin tumbles down the embankment and rolls to a stop near the edge of the lava. Anakin struggles to pull himself up the embankment with his mechanical hand. His thin leather glove has been burned off. He keeps sliding down in the black sand.)
Obi-Wan: "You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would, destroy the Sith, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to the Force, not leave it in Darkness."
(Obi-Wan picks up Anakin's light saber and begins to walk away. He stops and looks back.)
Anakin: "I hate you!"
Obi-Wan: "You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you."
(Anakin's clothing blows into the lava river and ignites. Suddenly Anakin bursts into flames and starts screaming.)
Anakin: *Screaming in agony*
Anakin Skywalker
Coming from a humble beginning as a slave on Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker would eventually become one of the most significant member of the Star Wars franchise. After being discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin was thrust into the world of the Jedi and the Sith. During his training he not only fell in love, something forbidden for Jedi but he was also manipulated and brain washed by the ruthless Sith Lord, Darth Sidious. His youth and immaturity proved to be as dangerous as the other Jedi had feared. His lust for power eventually caused him to betray the Jedi and become a Sith Lord himself. It was at this point that Anakin Skywalker ceased to exist and Darth Vader was born.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
A legendary Jedi Master, Obi Wan, or Ben as he would be called in later days played a significant role in the fate of the galaxy during the final days of the Galactic Republic. Once an apprentice of the great Qui-Gon Jinn as well as the Master Jedi Yoda, Kenobi had to mature quickly after he witnessed the death of his master at the hands of Darth Maul. Not only did Kenobi avenge his master's death by slaying Darth Maul but he would later also be the Jedi who killed General Grievous. Kenobi was more than just a skilled warrior though he was also a calm and reserved member of the Jedi order and gained a reputation for his negotiating and diplomatic skills.
