All members of BTVA are welcome to submit a performance for voice acting practice or just for fun! See below for details.

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Up to this point in the contest you have been asked to provide lines for a single character. However, in real life auditions, voice actors are often asked to read for several different characters. For this reason, in Round 3 you will be providing lines for TWO different characters. Although the characters may have similar traits it will be your job to make each performance unique.
For this round's theme, we have gone to one of the top sources of real, engaging and emotional characters ... Disney! Many of the characters from Disney's animated movies each go through their own journey of self discovery and personal growth. So you'll need to look deep inside yourself and put a lot of heart into your performance.

Remember to read the character descriptions as well as look over the visual part of the character in order to find the voice that best 'fits' each individual character. At this stage of the competition we advise that you don't try to imitate any of the voice actors and try to come up with your own voice for the characters.

The lines once again will be slightly longer in length and provide even more opportunities to display emotions and your acting ability. Good luck, you're one step away from the Final Four!!

1 Finalist from the remaining group will be selected by the Judges' to move on.

Aladdin

Show Lines | Show Character Description

Monologue 1: (Choice)
(After being told that a Genie is restricted to only granting three wishes, Aladdin devises a plan to trick the Genie into granting him a free wish.)
"Ah, Provisos? You mean limitations? On wishes? (Looks at his monkey Abu) Huh. Some all-powerful Genie. Can't even bring people back from the dead. I don't know, Abu. He probably can't even get us out of this cave. Looks like we're gonna have to find a way outta here."

Monologue 2: (Choice)
(Having used one of his wishes to become a fake prince, Aladdin apologizes to the Genie that he can't use his final wish to set the Genie free, and instead will have to use the wish to get himself out of this big mess of a lie)
"I'm serious. Look, I'm sorry, I really am. But they wanna make me Sultan. No, they want to make Prince Ali Sultan. Without you, I'm just Aladdin. ... The only reason anyone thinks I'm worth anything is because of you. What if they find out I'm not really a prince? (Quietly) What if Jasmine finds out? I'll lose her. Genie, I can't keep this up on my own. I-I can't wish you free."

A young adult who is usually depicted between the ages of 17-21, Aladdin's life has been anything but easy. Almost adopting a 'Robin-Hood' esque, thief persona, he is often looked at by the locals and especially the nobility, as a 'street rat'. He is altogether clever, brave, and kind hearted but also not afraid to lie or bend the rules in order to survive. Like most Disney heroes, he is also a hopeless romantic!

Simba

Show Lines | Show Character Description

Monologue 1: (Choice)
(Believing he is responsible for his father's death and not telling anyone, Simba has run away from home and now lives far away. After reuniting with his childhood friend Nala, they argue about why Simba refuses to return home to take his place as king)
"You know, you're starting to sound like my father. (Nala's response angers Simba) Listen, you think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through! (Nala asks what it is but Simba's refuses to share his guilty secret) Forget it! (Simba walks off and paces back and forth) She's wrong. I can't go back. What would it prove, anyway? It won't change anything. You can't change the past. (He looks up at the stars, where he was once told the kings of the past reside) You said you'd always be there for me! But you're not. And it's because of me. It's my fault. It's my fault. (He bows his head, choking back tears)"

Monologue 2: (Choice)
(Simba has finally returned home to take his place as king, only to find his home is now a wasteland, thanks to his uncle Scar's terrible ruling. Simba has also just witnessed Scar striking his mother to the ground)
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't rip you apart. (Simba calms himself) The choice is yours, Scar. Either step down or fight. (Scar reminds Simba that he's 'responsible' for his father's death) That's not gonna work, Scar. I've put it behind me. (Scar has made Simba confess his secret) No ... No. I'm not a murderer. (Scar gradually backs Simba up Pride Rock where Simba eventually slips over the edge and is clinging for his life. In a moment of arrogance, Scar confesses that HE is the one who killed Simba's father) NoooooOOOO! Murderer! (Quietly, severely) Tell them the truth. (Simba starts to choke Scar.) So they can hear you. (Scar runs off but Simba corners him) Murderer ... You don't deserve to live. (Scar blames the death of his father on the hyenas) Why should I believe you? Everything you ever told me was a lie. (Scar asks Simba if he'd really kill his own family) No, Scar. I'm not like you ... (Scar asks Simba what he wants him to do) Run. Run away, Scar. And never return."

Simba is a cocky and adventurous character by nature but is forced to mature a great deal in a very short time span over the course of the Lion King. He has a lot of baggage from his past stemming from his father's death at an early age and the guilt that came along with the incident. After much prodding by various characters and situations though, he show a great deal or bravery and power as he takes his rightful king as leader and rights the wrongs that have been plaguing him most of his life.

Princess Ariel

Show Lines | Show Character Description

Monologue 1: (Choice)
(Ariel is about to explore an underwater shipwreck with her friend Flounder. She then see's a ship sailing on the water surface and investigates.)
"You're not getting cold fins now, are you Flounder? All right. I'm going inside. You can just stay here and - watch for sharks. (Implying that her friend is a coward) Flounder, don't be such a Guppy! (After some exploring, Ariel sees a sailing ship) Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Have you ever seen anything so wonderful in your entire life? (She then see's a handsome man on the ship) I've never seen a human this close before. Oh... he's very handsome, isn't he? (Her friend thinks she's talking about a dog) No, not that one. The one playing the snarfblatt. (Soon, a storm hits the ship and the man washed into the sea. Ariel saves him and takes him to the the shoreline) Is he dead? ... No look, he's breathing. He's so beautiful."

Monologue 2: (Choice)
(Ariel spent so much time above the surface of the water, a place that her father (the king) forbids her to go, she has forgotten about an important royal concert)
"Daddy, I'm sorry, I just forgot, I (Ariel is cut off from her father who finds out she has just come from the surface) Nothing - happened ... (Her father states that humans could've see her) Daddy, they're not barbarians! I'm sixteen years old. I'm not a child anymore. (Her father cuts her off again) But if you would just listen (again, cut off. Ariel leaves, crying. She goes back to her cave of items from the surface she has collected over time) If only I could make him understand. I just don't see things the way he does. I just don't see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad."

Ariel is a mermaid and lives in an underworld city called Atlantica, which is ruled by her father King Triton. She has a big fascination with the world above the water, where the humans live and often explores to find human artifacts that she keeps in a secret cave. Ariel can be quite rebellious, and her curiosity causes her to disobey her father's orders about staying away from the human world and being so preoccupied, she forgets her responsibilities of being in a royal family.

Megara

Show Lines | Show Character Description

Monologue 1: (Choice)
(Hercules fights off a centaur, who has been harassing Megara. For reference, Shorty is Hercules' mentor Phil, and failed womanizer)
"My friends call me Meg. At least they would if I had any friends. So did they give you a name along with all those rippling pectorals? (Hercules responds with his name) Herc ... Huh. I think I prefer Wonderboy. (Hercules asks who the centaur is) The pinhead with hooves? Well, you know how men are. They think that 'no' means 'yes' and 'get lost' means 'take me, I'm yours'. Don't worry, Shorty here can explain it to ya later. (Phil growls at her) Well, thanks for everything, Herc. It's been a real slice."

Monologue 2: (Choice)
(Feeling guilty after tricking Hercules into giving away his god-like strength, Megara searches for Hercules mentor Phil, who she hopes can help him. Megara enlists the help of Hercules' flying horse, Pegasus)
"Hercules is in trouble. We gotta find Phil, he's the only one who can talk some sense into him. (After searching, they track down Phil) Phil! Phil, Hercules needs your help! He won't listen to me. (Phil tells her straight to her face it's because she betrayed him) Look, I know what I did was wrong, but this isn't about me, it's about him. If you don't help him now, Phil, he'll die."

Megara is an independant woman with a quick wit and isn't afraid to stand up for herself, especially in front of men. In fact, her opinion of men in general is very low, mainly due to her bad experiences with them in the past. This is also a reason for her cynicism and she uses her sexuality to persuade men to do her bidding. A lot of this comes as a result of Megara selling her soul to Hades, lord of the dead, to try and save her boyfriend's life, who later dumps her for another woman. But then she meets Hercules, who she at first dismisses as a "typical" guy, but after spending a substantial amount of time with him and learning he genuinely cares for her, Megara lets down her walls and learns to love again.

Stingervoice View Bio Stingervoice Playing: Aladdin & Simba Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Emotion poured beautifully into both characters. Pacing and word emphasis was very original (I've watched both movies many times). Only nitpick was while Simba's voice was indeed a little deeper, overall I felt the two voices could've been more distinct. Agrees (6) Disagrees (3) OptimusSolo Top Simba voice for me. First, loved the way you delivered �You can�t change the past� especially the inflection used on the word �past�. Second the emotion & level of angst you delivered with �You said you�d always be there for me.� Awesome job man! Agrees (9) Disagrees (5) SCP21 I like the emotions used here. Great diversity in the character tones and inflections. Agrees (8) Disagrees (3)	Rev897 View Bio Rev897 Playing: Aladdin & Simba Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Great emotive acting, especially the anger in Simba. You created two very distinct characters with your voices. However, it sounded like you were very close to the microphone and both monologues relayed a handful of vocal breaths/puffs. Agrees (5) Disagrees (0) OptimusSolo What I liked most about your performance was the contrast you gave us between the two characters. Loved the deep tone you gave to Simba. Overall the Simba lines were real solid. Aladdin was good but didn�t quite fit as well as others versions. Agrees (8) Disagrees (0) SCP21 Some of the Aladdin lines were a little too fast. I got the emotion and inflections in them. I loved Simba the best here. Great feeling! Agrees (7) Disagrees (0)
Pgirts View Bio Pgirts Playing: Aladdin & Simba Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Your Aladdin was perfect. Sounded lighthearted and had no problem tricking the Genie. Good depth in Simba's voice and the performance really grabbed me except the "You said you'd always be there for me" part which sadly I found poorly acted. Agrees (10) Disagrees (3) OptimusSolo Loved the cockiness you put into your Aladdin voice, really fit the character. I had you as the top voice for Aladdin. Delivered real well with Simba but I feel Stinger edged you just a tad with him on the emotional end. Once again real solid man! Agrees (10) Disagrees (3) SCP21 I really felt the takes on the characters. Great inflections and emotion displayed here. I wouldn't change a thing. Agrees (13) Disagrees (4)	shleepers View Bio shleepers Playing: Princess Ariel & Megara Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Flawless natural acting as always. Both characters and voices were so different and came alive. You captured Ariel's fun and youthful nature as well as her reluctant curiosity about the human world. Meg's attitude and lack of respect for men was perfect. Agrees (8) Disagrees (5) OptimusSolo Have had you as one of my top two female contestants every round so far but there were moments this round in which the lines just didn�t quite connect for me. The first part of your Ariel voice being one where it almost sounded like you were reading. Agrees (7) Disagrees (5) SCP21 I like the young and innocence in Ariel. Meg was had nice takes in there too. I liked the delivery. Agrees (9) Disagrees (3)
Jilly Bean View Bio Jilly Bean Playing: Princess Ariel & Megara Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Ariel's teen angst with her father was delivered beautifully and the voice was a great fit. The acting for Meg was solid but lacked some oomph and attitude (which you had a lot of with Videl in the last round) and her voice could've sounded older. Agrees (5) Disagrees (1) OptimusSolo Excellent job with Meg, you really nailed that character with the exact right amount of attitude and confidence. Also like the contrast between your Meg & Ariel voices. If it hadn�t been for Wolfwings I would have put you as the best for Ariel too! Agrees (9) Disagrees (3) SCP21 Wasn't a fan of the take on Meg. Something there wasn't fitting although the voice was closer. Ariel I liked much better. It seemed to be the right amount of character here. Agrees (6) Disagrees (2)	Lapianoman View Bio Lapianoman Playing: Aladdin & Simba Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Good solid acting but I felt it was flat in a number of places and needed deeper emotion. I can't put my finger on it but to me, the voice for Aladdin just didn't fit the character. Also, there could've more distinction between the two voices. Agrees (8) Disagrees (0) OptimusSolo Appreciate the effort you put into this round but feel the emotion and believability was just missing in this round. You were so solid last round so maybe it elevated my expectations too much but this felt a bit more like reading this round unfortunately. Agrees (6) Disagrees (1) SCP21 I felt some good feeling in Aladdin but some of the emotion was lacking. Simba was much better here. I could see this being in a film. Agrees (5) Disagrees (1)
MewVenus View Bio MewVenus Playing: Princess Ariel & Megara Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf Perfect. No other way to describe it. You poured life into two very distinct characters. The deep emotionally driven acting in Ariel was incredibly powerful. You captured all of Meg's characteristics effortlessly and love I your take on "real slice". Agrees (4) Disagrees (1) OptimusSolo Man the competition is tough this round! You ladies were all so close to each other in many ways. Just like Jilly, I think you really nailed the attitude with Meg perfectly. Your Ariel was not bad but I liked a couple of the others slightly more with her. Agrees (5) Disagrees (1) SCP21 I got the snooty take on Meg here. Made me think of the film. I got some nice emotional takes here. I could hear some good acting. Agrees (3) Disagrees (2)	Wolfwings View Bio Wolfwings Playing: Princess Ariel & Megara Monologue 1 Monologue 2 Foxwolf First, this is your best acting out of all rounds. Your Ariel was near perfect, capturing all her traits with such innocence. The deeper voice for Meg really helped distinguish her, and you delivered her guilt and love for Hercules really well. Agrees (7) Disagrees (1) OptimusSolo Wow, for a second I thought you somehow cheated & used Ariel�s actual voice somehow, spot on there, definitely the top Ariel voice this round. There really was nothing wrong with your Meg performance it just didn�t wow me like some of the others Megs. Agrees (7) Disagrees (2) SCP21 I think this Ariel is the closest and most spot on in my mind. I loved all the takes here. Meg was great as well. Agrees (7) Disagrees (1)

Nuuuuuuu! Not Jilly Bean! ;_; She was my favorite ever since I listened to her audition... So bummed not to get to hear her take on things anymore...I mean, even when the voice feels kinda off like with Daphne in the first round the acting part is always good...CURSE YOU VOTERS, CURSE YOU. *shakes fist at computer screen*

Anyway...personal biases aside, everyone did an amazing job this round, and you all should be proud. I really hope we'll see more of everyone in future contests, it'd be a right waste of talent not to...that goes for those eliminated earlier, too...even for some others who didn't become finalists but whose auditions I loved...

@Jilly Bean Honestly, I think you fell victim to the fact that too many people were familiar with the movie version of Meg. Myself, who had never seen the movie and had no preconceived notion on what Meg should sound like and was just going off the description and personality traits had you as the Top Female performance this round. Definitely sad to see you and shleepers eliminated :(

So sad to see Rev897, Shleepers, Jilly Bean and Lapianoman go. You all did FANTASTIC. This was the toughest round yet. Keep at it even outside the competition. :)

The Final Four. Congrats to everyone! Honestly, I feel it is a damn shame that only half of the contestants get to continue to the next round; everyone who has made it to this point deserves a chance to continue on in my opinion. I am especially happy for Wolfwings, who I think knocked this round out of the park. I'm glad that a lot of voters apparently share that sentiment.

This was by far the most horrible round to be a Judge and pick the final Top 4 spot. To put things into perspective, shleepers, Jilly Bean and MewVenus all had the EXACT same number of votes. And they've been anywhere from solid to amazing all 3 rounds. So it was very sad and difficult to only be able to pick 1 of them to go through.
So congrats to the Top 4 and an honorable thank you to those "going home". It's been a joy and pleasure to listen to your awesome voice acting talents these past few weeks. We hope to still see you around BTVA on the current and upcoming voice acting features as well as future contests.

My vote defiantly went to Shleepers, she showed natural acting, and did it wonderfully, Meg was good, she sounded like I would imagine her, and Ariel was just perfect, some lines lacked emotion, but other then that, she was one of the best~

I have to say, I voted for Jilly. There was just something about the way she distinguished the two characters that did it for me, it's kinda hard to explain.

Everyone did well but Mewvenus stood out the most. Don't get me wrong I like everyone's performance but she just stepped it up a notch. I felt more feeling in her performace than any other and they were very nice to hear.

Again this one was a really hard choice for me .I wish i could vote twice .The ones i liked would nail one character but not the other ,so i was really crossed between two .All of all did a great job and it was a pleasure to listen to all .:)

Man, we have some excellent talent this round. All of you guys did great work in your own ways. Some of you were admittedly weaker for certain characters, but the other one would be a huge improvement. Nobody here was anywhere below good. These next rounds are going to get tougher and tougher.

Here are my favourites and thoughts:
Stingervoice (You rocked this one. Loved your young-sounding voices and the emotion you provided. The voices could be a bit more mistake, but that was outstanding!)

Shleepers (I thought you were the best Ariel. Stellar job at capturing a young and pure voice. Reminded me of Stephanie Sheh or Hynden Walch. I expected Meg to be lower, but not a bad job.)

MewVenus (I've never seen the movie [don't shoot me] so I don't know exactly what Megara was all about, but from the description I felt you hit her qualities on the head.)

All right, final decision: MewVenus. It was an EXTREMELY tough call, but I think she did the best with coming up with original, likable voices for the characters.

That's not to say that only she did a good job. Everyone did GREAT this round. It'll be tough to see half of you go. Know that you all did an AMAZING job!

Wowww amazing round! I love Disney and a lot of these voices were spot on! For the Aladdin/Simba it's definitely Stingervoice, and the Ariel/Meg I really liked Wolfwings, but everyone did great!

I had a thought that I wanted to point out to the judges: In every round the contestants have had to voice characters that a lot of people are familiar with, but you have been very careful to point out that it's not a competition to sound like the original voice, but to make it their own. Yet I have noticed (less in this round than the others) that the contestants who tend to mimic the original voice get praised for it in the judges feedback instead of encouraged to branch out on their own. Like I said I think everyone is doing a phenomenal job in this whole competition but I hope to see more and more originality (and praise for it) in the coming rounds!

One last thing: I am really hoping there will be a round (if not this time then in future contests) of reading a book! Audio book voice-overs are a huge business and I think it would be a fantastic challenge!

@Ducky I thought that there were some people who sounded similar to the original voices, yes, but they were able to put their own twist to the voice that set them apart from the originals, in my humblest opinion.

Also, I think the reason why similar-sounding performances get greater praise is because people have heard the original voices for so long that it's hard to picture any other voice. It's just a matter of being able to set aside bias and judge the contestants fairly based on how well they can act as that certain character(s), which I'm sure the judges have been doing this whole time.

@VocalChameleon I think you have misinterpreted my feedback then Ducky. When I say someone nailed it or was spot on etc I am talking about their ability to come up with a voice that in my mind nails the characteristics of the character.

This round for example, I couldn't even tell you which movie this Meg character comes from as I never watched any Disney movies that came out after Lion King. So i have no reference to what she is 'supposed' to sound like

Also, last round I couldn't tell you how any of them sounded in the cartoons/anime as I have never seen a single Dragon Ball show or movie.

Just thought I would point that out ;)

Thanks for the feedback though! Narration, story reading, video game dubbing, and all other forms of voice acting will definitely come up in later contests!

@OptimusSolo Oh no I didn't mean to imply that every time you praise a performance it's because they sounded like the original actor. There have just been a couple of times where one of the judges said something like "Wow, you sounded exactly like [Insert original actor's name]! Good job!" And not that that's wrong, I think it's natural for all of us to imagine how we know the character sounds and to gravitate toward the voice that sounds the most like it. I'm not trying to imply that you guys are doing a bad job, I really have loved reading your feedback! I'm just excited to see these contestants breathe new life into old characters!

P.S. Seriously you guys (judges and contestants alike) are all awesome!

well i voted for Pgirts i think he did the best overall on both characters and was near perfection. my second choice would be wolfwings her ariel was phenomenal and her meg was very well done also i thought (although after hearing her ariel it is tough to compare the 2) third choice would be stingervoice he did a great job on simba probably the best (slightly better than Pgirts). aladdin was not quite as good as the simba but was still very well done. and my final pick would be Rev897 but everyone did a great job and wish you all the best in the future :)

Stingervoice - Your acting was superb. Your Simba was better than your Aladdin, I thought. Aladdin should've been a bit more boyish. I wish you would've used more contrasting voices for the characters--they both sounded too alike to me.

Rev897 - I love that you created a unique voice for each character. Aladdin should've been higher, but I understand that your voice is naturally very deep, so you were probably at a bit of a disadvantage here. Your Simba was fantastic. You conveyed his anger well.

Pgirts - You portrayed Aladdin's carefree attitude very well. Your voice was a great fit for him. The acting for Simba was phenomenal, and also you used a different voice for each character. There's not anything negative I can think of to say.

Shleepers - Your voice fit Ariel well, however I didn't feel as if there was enough emotion in the first and last line. The rest of Ariel's monologue sounded good. Meg's dialogue was delivered too fast. I like the way you delivered her last line, but I feel as if the rest of it didn't work as well as it should have. I like that you tried create a distinct voice for both characters.

Jilly Bean - I liked your "It's been a real slice" for Meg. You captured Meg's sassiness well. Though you have a high natural voice, you did a good job pulling off a sultry tone for Meg. Your Ariel was fantastic. Your voice had sweet, soft tones and you captured her naive nature well. Even when she was yelling, she still kept that softness to her voice. You also showed a LOT of contrast between both voices. Kudos for creating two unique voices that nailed the character of both Ariel and Meg.

Lapianoman - I felt that you were at a disadvantage this round since both Aladdin and Simba are very young and they both have more of a boyish sound to them. I was really impressed with how high you were able to go for both characters, but it sounded like you might have had trouble emoting, which is understandable when using a voice so different from your own. If they had included Mufasa instead of Simba, I'm sure you would've nailed it.

MewVenus - I felt like you were overacting for Ariel. I can't imagine her really yelling at her father--she's too sweet. That tone did not fit her character. Her voice also should've been softer, I think. You captured Meg's sarcastic personality and your acting was good, but parts of it sounded too snooty. Your delivery of "it"s been a real slice" was my favorite part. It sounded like you read both characters in your natural voice. I wish you would've given them each a distinct, unique voice.

Wolfwings - Your Ariel was great. You captured her personality well--she sounded both sweet and naive. The softness that I expected for Ariel's voice was also there. Meg's monologue was also good, although it didn't portray her personality well. I think you would've done better with her other monologue.

Overall, everyone did well. I can definitely see why everyone has made it this far. It's sad that half of you will have to go. I think you're all very talented.

Wow, now that I have listened to all the submissions you guys did us no favors in trying to 'judge' you!! So many good moments in the lines throughout. It is definitely going to be hard to only save one of you this round :(

Hey everybody! I just wanted to let some of you know (well, people who can sing and are picking Simba as one of your choices) that I have made a video of "We Are One" from the Lion King 2 and I made Simba's voice blank (off) for anyone who wanted to sing for him. I do the singing for Kiara. So maybe when you guys are done with this round and if you are interested, go to the forums and check "Fandubs and Projects" topic. The video link will be in there. @Foxwolf It'd probably be best for everyone competing to take Foxwolf's advice and pick one emotional monologue (to show off your dramatic acting skills ^^) and then a more light-hearted one. You guys did a great job picking monologues. I want to perform all of them... it's very difficult to choose!

Ah, tricky! Both of these characters are very similar; energetic, but soft-spoken in the tone of their voices. This will be a real challenge making them sound different from one another.

That said...BRING. IT. ON.

@Pgirts that's very true. they're not quite as distinct as Ariel and Meg. But we're hoping the differences in their motivation help you guys distinguish them by voice. Simba is feeding off of guilt, anger and redemption, whereas Aladdin's lines aren't as emotionally deep, but coming from street smarts and trickery (for the 1st monologue) and panic and fear (for the 2nd).

We apologize in advance that some of the monologues are rather disjointed. We filled them in with staging directions as best we could. My advice would be for any directions that indicate another character speaking to your character, that you give a decent length pause before continuing your performance. Just to avoid lines from sounding like they're connected when they shouldn't. Please don't hesitate to ask us any questions.
