What Do I Need To Audition?

A Microphone ... Recording Software and ... Your Voice!!

How Do The Auditions Work?

1. Record a few lines of dialogue that showcase your best voice acting ability. *
(a demonstration or selection of the voices, emotions, or characters you are capable of)

2. Submit your audition using the form below. **
3. After the Auditions have closed, the Judges will review all submissions.
4. Standout auditions will move automatically into the Top 16 Finalist spots.

5. Remaining spots will be determined after the Callbacks.
(auditions of members who score high enough will advance to the Callbacks)

* Your audition must adhere to the Official Rules.
Recommended recording software: Audacity or Adobe Soundbooth
** Auditions will be screened and must be approved to be eligible for Finalist contention.

What Should I Include In My Audition?

Think of your audition as a "demo reel". Show off your ability not only to do multiple characters and voices but also show us multiple emotions as well. Although imitating voices can be a valuable asset, it is more important for you to remember the ACTING part of Voice Acting! Whether you use 4 or 10 voices, we are looking for those that are most believable and natural in their presentation.

lol, now that I hear everyone else auditions, I am not surprised I didn't get in. I sent mine in the the description still said only "3 lines". I'm not complaining though, I love listening to all these cool VAs

@akuunkyande yeah, sorry about that. we did change that after the first couple of days after people were asking questions about the number of lines. you would've been able to resubmit like another member did.

I am not surprised I did not get picked I record mine as an improvised dialog so it makes sense that others who took much more than the thirty minutes that I did than on it. I had a lot of voice overs to record this week so I was a bit too swamped to work on it much and I will be too busy to compete with all of my heart in it. I have had pretty good success so far, so I hope the others have a shot at what I have been having. Dropping my demo off at an agency tomorrow who is taken interest in me, so wish me luck! Oh and the best of luck to everyone else!

@ScottSmithVoiceover Some of the voices sounded a little too similar was I think what it was. But the acting and emotion was good. Some nice variations in there as well.

Good luck with the demo and the agency. I only wish I was that far in my VO career. I have mostly been doing fan works, and some other major projects.

@SCP21 Yeah I figured as much, I usually voice more than one character in each production I have been in but that takes time to make distinct voices so thirty minutes was a bit too short. Oh and thanks for the feedback and encouragement, it means a lot to me!

Just to let everyone know - choosing our finalists for this contest was way more difficult than I ever expected it to be and there were so many good auditions that just missed the cut. Don't let it discourage you if you didn't make it as a finalist because we will definitely be doing more of these in the future!!

This stinks! I was never given a chance to enter at all last night! This was rigged. I'm never coming back to this site again. I spent so long working on my recording. I did at least six voices for my scene...

@JoeKM I'm sorry, JoeKM, but the auditions have been open for 2 weeks. To call this rigged is hardly accurate. Look at all the people who DID submit their auditions in time.
And if you were having problems, you never contacted any of the Admins about your concerns like many other members did.

@Stonestreamdubs this first contest is kind of an experiment. we wanted it to be simple to start with. after each stage of the contest is over, we'll ask for everyone's feedback on how to improve future contests.

as for your audition, it was actually missing the required intro that everyone has submitted theirs with. I've reset it so that you can resubmit, so if you can update your audition, that would be great.

We don't allow cussing/vulgarity or offensive clips to be approved for the site - Sorry if you feel like your hard work was wasted but at the end of the day this is a family friendly website and we can't allow that type of content :(

So this is no guarantee, but our hope for future contests is to have a Professional Voice Actor be one of the judges.
But this first contest has to be successful for us to be able to approach a Pro VA and invite them.
You guys are doing fantastic with all the auditions, but we'll also need all our fans to follow the contest right through to the Final and vote for their favorites. The more popular we can make this contest, the more likely a Pro VA will help out and judge.

Hello all and sorry for not posting sooner. Been at work. So far I have to say I was blown away by not only the amount of auditions but the quality of many. I too understand the headache of a staticy mic. I suffered that until this year. I now have a $100 one which I needed for voice projects and podcasts. However that will not detract from the auditions. I have done castings for several projects at this point and can decipher if I hear potential or a plain read. Plus I have made the same mistakes. So keep believing in yourselves and best of luck. And for the those that do not get chosen don't feel bad. I got turned down in a lot of productions before getting a lot of them. It takes a ton of practice and perseverance. So again fantastic work everyone and can't wait to see the finalists!

@akuunkyande we can provide feedback for anyone who would like it. We haven't announced it, but the Judges will be OptimusSolo, SCP21 (a frequent member) and myself. We aren't professionals but we believe and hope that we can judge fairly based on what we believe is good voice acting. SCP21 has the most experience as he auditions and participates in many fan projects. I myself have taken a professional workshop in Los Angeles but that's it. Optimus will share what he brings to the table.

We've loved listening to everyone's auditions and are honored to have such enthusiastic participation in what we hope will become a regular and stand-out contest to help aspiring voice actors grow, and hey, it's just fun! :D

@Asia (Stix1800) as long as it showcases a variety of your acting, go for it. just make sure to record an intro for the audition and keep it under a minute.

@RedWishingStar no, it won't. we know many people are new to voice acting and staticy/lower quality recordings won't affect our judging. Finalists will be given tips on how to improve recording quality. Because in the finals when the community votes, low quality will likely deter voters.

I had to reduce the bitrate of my submission to 128kps in order to get the file size down, and now it sounds really terrible. My neurosis is overwhelming.

Hey Foxwolf, when I posted my audition clip for the contest the first rule clearly stated that I should use my own voice not the part that says "that showcase your best voice acting ability" that has been added later.

@I_am_onlive that is not a problem at all. you should be able to submit another audition now. we DID change the wording early on but found it a little tricky to describe that the audition should be recorded with your voice (not implying that it be your natural voice, but voices coming out of you) and not taken from other people. Sorry for the confusion. Look forward to hearing your new audition.

@I_am_onlive unforunately no. we're just a fan site and this contest is for aspiring voice actors like yourself. we wanted to create a community project where people could help each other improve their voice acting and meet others who just starting out.

we have no affiliation with any voice recording companies or studios. if this contest gets really popular, then maybe we'll be lucky one day to work with one for a voice acting job as the prize.

@Panda Pod it's up to you really. if you can display some fantastic voice acting in a monologue (with varied emotions) then go for that. if you can display a variety of acting with lines from different shows, then do that. we're first and foremost looking for the best acting. and yes, under a minute :)
