Much like Phil Hartman, I also miss this guy a lot.

The world is a sad place without him. He was great in comedic roles, but he could also deliver in more dramatic roles.

Happy Birthday and, most importantly, R.I.P. to one of the most naturally funny people. Robin Williams was excellent as Ms. Doubtfire and did very well as Teddy Roosevelt in the Night of the Museum movies, and of course his role as Genie was simply timeless. Always remembered, never forgotten.

Happy Birthday and RIP Robin Williams.

I enjoyed his incredible roles as Teddy Roosevelt (Night of the Museum), Fender (Robots), Ramone and Lovelace (Happy Feet), among many others throughout his career will never be forgotten. But his most iconic role I will greatly cherish and remember was his role as the wise-cracking Genie in Dinsey's Aladdin.

Past, Present and Future generations who grow up with his amazing roles for 30+ years will look up to him and continue to laugh, cry, and remember his Miraculous achievements that will continue for many years to come.

So RIP Mr. Williams. :'(

Happy Birthday and RIP Robin Williams!

I still can't believe it will have been almost over a year since your tragic passing.

I've always thought he had an amazing versatility as an actor and comedian. Yes he had played in his fair share of stinkers but the shows or movies he was great in...were really great.

The Genie from Aladdin is easily the most iconic voice role of his and for good reason. Of course he was also great as Ms. Doubtfire and his Teddy Roosevelt in The Night at the Museum series was by far the best aspect of the movies. It's a shame he never played Teddy in an actual bio-pic. I feel that was the biggest missed potential ever.

RIP Robin Williams, you are very much missed by us all. Your great legacy will never be forgotten.

It's been four months since his death. While I was on summer vacation and learned of the news for the first time, with my father telling me about it and showing me an article of The Philadelphia Inquirer, I couldn't believe it actually happened. This did not seem real at all. I was "beyond devastated" by the loss of my favorite comedian of all time. Now he's in the heavens above with Brittany Murphy, Jonathan Winters, John Belushi, Johnny Carson, Joan Rivers, Christopher Reeve, among others. RIP Robin Williams. We will never have another amigo like you.

If anyone is interested here's a little documentary like thing that came out in 2005 about Robin Williams during his Mork and Mindy days. It also takes the time to talk about Robin's first film role as Popeye, Him getting married to his first wife, His friendship between SNL and Blues Brothers cast member John Belushi, and Robin's initial reaction to finding out that John Belushi died. I'm not sure how historically accurate it is because it's actors doing the part.

And here's the cast for those who are interested.
Chris Diamantopoulos - Robin Williams
Erinn Hayes - Pam Dawber
Michelle Harrison - Valerie Velardi
Tyler Labine - John Belushi
David Lewis - Ira Denmark
David Richmond - Peck-Harvey Severson
Meredith McGeachie - Lila Milford
Richard Kahan - Alan Davis
Daniel Roebuck - Garry Marshall

And here's a link to the program itself.

I...consider myself to have a pretty decent memory. I can name many of my grade school friends and teachers, but before all that it gets really sketchy. But one memory I hold very dear is that of the first movie I ever saw in theaters.

The first movie I ever saw was when I was three or four years old. I went to the movie theater with my mom, my dad, and my brother (my youngest hadn't been born yet) to see the latest Disney Animated Film: "Aladdin". Just from the commercials, I felt I was going to love it. I loved the magic, I loved the action, I loved the story even though I had no freaking clue how story worked back then. But the thing I loved most about the movie, like everyone else who has seen "Aladdin"...was the one, the only, the ever-impressive, the long-contained, the often-imitated but never duplicated Genie of the Lamp.

As I got older and started recognizing actors in other movies, I really grew to like Robin Williams. He had an energy with his comedy, an improvisational talent that none could match, and just that right voice for the sentimental moments that hammered the point in just as he did in "Good Will Hunting". He was not just an inspiration to me as a funnyman and actor, but also as a good person with a heart of gold and a love of many things I loved, showing that you can never outgrow nerdiness sometimes.

I know it's been almost two months since it happened. I remember I was out with a friend and he got the news when he was checking his messages. When he told me about his tragic death, I couldn't believe what I had heard and thought it was some cruel prank, having seen a similar thing done with Morgan Freeman. Yet as time continued and the message kept showing up everywhere, it slowly started to sink in. Even now, I half-expect some facebook update to pop up and say it was all an elaborate prank set up by Williams to get away from it all for a moment...but another part of me says that it's just not him to do something like that.

What made his death so shocking is that it bears a stunning resemblance to the death of Justin "JewWario" Carmichal, which happened earlier in the year and also happened because of suicide. It seemed so unlike them and to hear that they took their own lives just kills a part of you. Another thing that hit us all hard is that, at times, those battling depression are usually the last people we expect to have it and that was the case with Robin and Justin.

It truly was a tragic event and we lost a comic legend that can never be truly replaced on that day. My heart goes out to Robin's friends and his family and I pray that they find the strength to move on without him, and I pray that, wherever he is, he's in a better place. Last but not least, I give my prayers to anyone who loved Williams' works, grew up with him, or admired him as a person just as much as he was an actor.

I'm Sarge Ray, and I vow to always remember the late Robin Williams. We truly have never had a friend like you, and odds are that we never will.

R.I.P. Robin Williams

@Joop It's bleak, but the fact is that's how he died. The goal of the site is to be factual, so we aren't going to leave out important information like that even if it is upsetting.
said at 6:42 AM on Sun Aug 17 2014
@NCZ I'm actually happy you have put down the cause of his death. Its important for people to know these things in my opinion, to realise that someone like Robin Williams that looked so happy, and seemed to have everything, in fact wasn't so happy. Hopefully it will wake a few of us up, to start looking outside of ourselves a bit more, start looking at the people around us, and reaching out to people more. I think if more of that was going on a lot of people's depression wouldn't reach such a desperate peak. Sorry to get so heavy, that's just what I really feel....I know it sounds somewhat cheesy, but we really live in such a emotionally closed off world so much of the time, myself included, and I think we need to wake up from it.

@RedGirl For sure! Your words absolutely hit the nail on the head. I honestly feel it would have been more unacceptable and careless if we danced around the issue, not just because it's counterproductive to leave out crucial information solely because it might offend someone somewhere, but also because it brings attention to a very serious issue that too often goes ignored in society.
said at 6:56 AM on Sun Aug 17 2014
@NCZ Exactly!!! Thankyou for feeling that way. Honestly, I thought I was coming on a little strong and thought about reeling back on what I said, or even not posting my comment at all, but then I thought "To heck with that! This is something that needs to be said!" Thankyou again, both for being so receptive to my post, but stating the facts the way they are, giving people the chance to think and get a little more real about life and the people in it!
said at 7:00 PM on Sun Aug 17 2014
@RedGirl What's more important is the joy he brought when he lived than the sadness that came with his passing.
said at 1:08 PM on Fri Aug 22 2014
@loredragonmaster I totally agree with that. But what I think it is important that when someone we love so much turns around and does something so tragic, that we need to know about it, be aware of it, and not shove it under the carpet, because such things, when ignored, have a horrible way of repeating themselves.
said at 1:59 PM on Sun Aug 24 2014
@RedGirl You're quite correct about that.
It's a shame though, that the death of ONE comedian is "necessary" for people to talk about depression and other psychological disorders, while there are thousands of "less important" (non-celebs) who suffer from the same ordeal every day.

And as a sidenote, I grew up watching his movies (comedies) and will always have fond memories of "him".

I've recently heard that his widow admitted that not too long before this happened Robin had early stages of Parkinson's Disease. When I first heard about then things about this situation felt a little bit clearer. The fact that Robin Williams had Parkinson's Disease was probably the real reason why he committed suicide he probably felt that he wasn't long for this world anyway sad to say.

@Pokejedservo This might be hearsay, but I've also heard it said that he hadn't been the same since his mentor-friend Jonathan Winters, more or less Robin's Robin, passed the year before. Regardless, I'm certain there were plenty of factors in play that we'll never fully comprehend.

I feel like every year we lose a piece of Kingdom Hearts: Wayne Allwine, Eddie Carroll, Kenneth Mars, Glenn Shadix and now Robin Williams. I know that Robin wasn't in any of the KH series but I felt that sense he made up with Disney that there was a chance he would reprise his role. When my mom told me he died, I was absolutely crushed seeing as I loved Robin's work. I had no idea that he was close friends with the late Christopher Reeves nor about him helping Reeves and his family after his accident which left him paralyze. I believe what a friend said that Robin was probably hurting because his mentor and friend Jonathan Winters had passed. Some say that he hadn't been the same. What's really sad is that his last tweet was him wishing his daughter a happy birthday and linking a pic to his instagram of he and Zelda when she was a toddler.

...Robin Williams...

...In my (almost) seventeen years of life, very few comedians ever entertained me in the same way that Robin Williams could... In fact, none of them could... He was truly one of a kind. As a comedian, as an actor, as a person. He had such extraordinary talent and charisma, he seemed like such a jovial individual; to hear that he died in the way that he apparently did... I... I just can't believe it...

Rest in peace, Robin McLaurin Williams. You were truly one of us; from your passionate performances, to your amazing comedy, to even the little things... your love for Pokemon, Neon Genesis Evangelion and The Legend of Zelda... Very sad, shocking news. I've been a fan of Robin and his work for most of my life, and this is one of those celeb tragedies that really did hit pretty hard for me. RIP Robin =(

I was sad when Shirley Temple passed... But Robin? ROBIN? I can't even handle myself right now. This guy was probably the most entertaining guy in the business when I was a kid. Can't believe he's gone. RIP Mr. Williams. May your legacy live on.

Not only was this the closest I've come to crying from a death this year, but I think this is the biggest loss we've had as of right now. Robin was not only one of the funniest comedians I've ever seen, but he knew whenever he was in a film, how to entertain and how to be just as appealing to children as he could be adults. Robin is one of those few entertainers that could bridge the gap for both ages and he will be forever missed. RIP Robin

There was a special news report over this. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this. I always loved.him as the Genie, as well as his roles in Good Will Hunting, Hook, Insomnia, and Dead Poets Society among others. R.I.P Robin Williams, you will missed.

There have been a lot of sad celebrity deaths going on recently... but this time, I'm so upset that I'm actually angry. I'm angry that this wonderful person is gone. ... I liked him in every single thing I saw him in. Even if the movie was stupid, or his character was poorly written he was always a pleasure to watch and gave me so much happiness growing up. Especially in stuff like Good Will Hunting and Aladdin.

I got so angry when I first heard about it a little bit ago that I just wanted to curse and shout in frustration. This is horrible, awful news.

Goodbye, Robin. Rest In Peace.

...It's going to be awful the next time I watch one of his movies. It's just going to remind me how much of an amazing performer and man he was and I'm just going to get sad, but at the same time I really, really want to watch one right now.
