Anybody else think last year was kinda quiet for Nolan?
said at 10:07 AM on Mon Jun 5 2017
In terms of roles. I'm guessing Uncharted took up a ton of his time.

said at 10:49 AM on Mon Jun 5 2017

Uncharted 4 was in development for a long time. They had to scrap a ton of the motion capture and VO work because the original writers/directors left partway through and they had to come up with a new direction. Overall I don't think it's any exaggeration to say it's one of the biggest games in Nolan's entire career.

@GreenGoblin75 I think Troy's year was much quieter in comparison. Buy you aren't wrong in this case.

@GreenGoblin75 Besides I've noticed his roles in animation are racking up more than his video game roles. Sure most of them were shows that started 3-4 years prior but it's something worth noting.

@NCZ Alan Tudyk was also one of the actors that were confirmed to have been in Uncharted 4, the first draft of it anyway before they scrapped it & had to start from scratch.

Yep, I've said it before but I have a strong feeling he was playing Rafe. Warren Kole really seemed to be channelling him with his performance. Plus I can't think of who else he would've been since we already know Todd Stashwick was Sam. Of course there's a chance he was an entirely different character that got cut but I can just see him as Rafe way too well.

Now that we know that Nolan used a pseudonym when he was in the Highlander movie, I wonder if he used that name for the anime game dubs that we think he might have done voice work for? Provided that they have credits. It's worth looking into.

Loved meeting Nolan North at Melbourne Supanova last weekend! He signed my copies of Halo Wars & Halo 3: ODST. He recorded a nice little passage as August (Tales from the Borderlands) & I even got his take on the rather infamous 'wizard from the moon' line as Ghost in Destiny.

I find it extremely impressive how he started doing cartoons in the mid-2000's & is already among the greatest VAs of our time. I like how he did a few game dubs (& Highlander!), but I really wish he'd passed through anime for awhile. Would've been cool although we did have him "guest" as a major Naruto character, which was awesome.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 7:48 PM on Mon Apr 17 2017

Anime series are a larger commitment than games and pay a lot less. He was also cast in Uncharted and Assassin's Creed relatively early on (c. 2005) which also meant that there probably wasn't really much need for him to do so at the time.

@NCZ I was just about to comment something similar to this. But you already beat me to the punch. That being said though, have you discovered any new anime games that Nolan North did voice work for?
NCZ (Admin)
said at 9:45 PM on Mon Apr 17 2017
@Shaun Ince

He might've been in Ar tonelico II but that's all I know of at the moment. Just a small handful of PCB dubs.
said at 9:22 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@NCZ That's definitely true, I suppose. I just figured seeing as he worked very regularly with Jamie Simone & Studiopolis, he might've popped in on occasion on Naruto (the actual show) or something like that. Scott Menville was around for far longer (as an adult even), & he did small bits on anime. Tom Kenny was in Rave Master. Susan Silo & Kat Cressida who was similar to Nolan then, were in it. Really I was only thinking 2000-2005 when he'd a few voice-over roles but hadnt become a big deal. Anyway, I'm not upset or anything, just a tad wistful at "Oh, what could've been", y'know? Sorry if I came off antagonistic or polarizing in any way.
Shaun Ince
said at 9:57 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@NCZ I've noticed from the few anime game dubs he has done or may have done, are usually voice directed by Keith Arem who is the head of PCB Productions. He also voice directed most of the games published by Activision, notably Call of Duty. So already, there is some history there.
said at 12:50 PM on Sun Apr 23 2017
@Shaun Ince I think, in general, a lot of VAs use PCB & their dubs in a similar way to Studiopolis (who do both dubs & original works), as a stepping stone towards bigger & better-paid projects. A lot of actors, Laura, Travis, RCS, Troy, Liam, Yuri, & other such folk, did/do this, & I suppose it makes sense.

I think a lot of new talent hope to climb the ranks through PCB & their small dub projects (& they have classes too) & while I would hope they stick around for dubs, I do wish them all the best regardless.

I'm liking the feature of additional voices to the actors page. Even if they aren't playing a main character, you'll most likely here them as that one NPC that you hear in every game. There was one time in Mafia 2 where I heard Nolan North talk to himself and it was pretty funny.

If his growth continues at this pace he's going to pass Corey Burton & Chris Sabat in the number of credited roles. Maybe he'll get cast I'm a few more cartoons where he voices a huge bulk of the characters. We've seen it lately with Sanjay & Craig, It could happen again in another cartoon.

Nolan North, the leading man of many video games. Also one of my favorite voice actors. He is downright hilarious. I think the roles I like hearing him the most is when he's playing a hammy OTT character. Nothing displays that better with the likes of Deadpool, Edward Richtofen, N Gin & Merasmus. All his other roles in many other video games are great also but those 4 stand out the most to me.

He's the one VA that I want to hear in an anime, but the chances of that happening are slim at best. That being said, seeing him in more animation is not a bad idea in the slightest.

Side note: He's the one VA that made me sorta geek out when I found out that he followed me on Twitter. It was just so unexpected and very surreal.

I guess Nolan North pulled a Mel Blanc when he decided to voice all those characters in Sanjay & Craig. I mean, when you look at Mel's page and you find all the Looney Tunes characters he voiced in all those shorts, it works out to being pretty similar. Though in Mel's case there were loads of shorts dedicated to certain characters & Mel voiced hundreds of people in those shorts.

I wonder what will happen next. Will Nolan end up getting 100 credits in another cartoon? Only time will tell. I will say this, it was pretty nice to see him pass the 400 credit mark.

Happy Birthday Nolan North!

Nolan's gotta be one of the funniest leading man voice actors ever, in both video games and cartoons.

My favourite role of his is without a doubt the Merc with the Mouth himself Deadpool. He truly captures everything about Wade Wilson being a perfect blend of hilarity and psychotic. I'm glad that he's been able to voice him in nearly everything the character's been in since '09.

My 2nd favourite role of his would be Smokescreen in Transformers: Prime, I just loved the energy and passion he brought to the role, his delivery of "He's Optimus Prime" just feels so genuine and very endearing, the character was such a breath of fresh air in the very controversial 2nd season and felt like not only did he belong to the show but also should have been around since the beginning. I'm really hoping Smokescreen returns in RID because of Nolan's great voice work.

I also loved his performances as Nathan Drake, Desmond Miles, The Kraang, Raphael, Penguin, Superboy, Superman, Bizzaro, Zatara, The Brain, Green Lantern, Power Ring, General Zod, Cyclops, Balder, Scientist Supreme, Magneto, Maximus, Gorgon, War Machine, Werewolf by Night, Nightcrawler, Hank Pym, Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, Alistair Smythe, Sky Lynx, Cliffjumper, Brawl, Bruticus, Space Core, Engineer, Merasmus, Bombinomicon, Redmond Mann, Blutarch Mann and Zepheniah Nieodemus Mann.
said at 5:23 AM on Mon Oct 31 2016
I also really liked his performances in Voltron: Legendary Defender as Samuel Holt and Iverson.

It was also interesting to hear him really get to use his range in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan voicing not just Leonardo but also Shredder and Splinter. Wow. I was rather impressed with his work here, then again what can't Nolan really do as a VA?

I'm really hoping he gets to return as Smokescreen in Transformers: Robots in Disguise in the next season. I loved the character and his performance in Prime and I'm interested to see what became of the character since then. I could also see him taking on some new Transformers roles too.

Happy Birthday Nolan North!

Happy Birthday and Halloween Nolan North!!! One of my favorite voice actors!! My first time hearing him was back in 2007 when I saw TMNT in theatres, and he was definitely one of the standouts to me as Raphael (along with James Arnold Taylor's Leonardo, Mako's Splinter, and Chris Evan's Casey Jones). Soon enough, I started hearing his name pop up in several video games and TV shows. To think he'd become one of the most versatile and sought after voice over artists in the industry, and now he's got a certain Troy Baker giving him a run for his money (not that I'm complaining)!!! I also enjoyed his as Deadpool, Nathan Drake, Smokescreen, Penguin, Desmond Miles, David, Dr. N. Gin, Yokozuna, Francis, Kraang, Balder, Green Lantern, Hawkeye, Green Goblin, and Magneto among MANY others!!! Also from what I heard so far, his Atomic Joker is really good!!!

@TheVengeanceKnight Doctor N. Gin was the first voice role of his I ever heard (granted it was pretty early on in his voice-acting career), and because it entertained me so well, that'll be the role I always readily associate with him.

As a matter of fact, every time I read his name I subconsciously hear it the way N. Gin says it in the CTTR credits, plus the tangent he goes on afterward: "Nolan North as N. Gin. Wait... that's me. And him is me and me is him. I'M SO CONFUSED!! HE'S AN IDIOT!! Wait, that means I'm an idiot... Cut!"

If I had to pick a runner-up, the defective cores and turrets from Portal 2 were pretty memorable :)

#4 Vashyron (Resonance of Fate)
#5 Romeo (Halo 3: ODST)

Does anyone know why Nolan North didn't reprise his role as Tobi in the Naruto Shippuden anime?
said at 10:17 PM on Sat Oct 13 2012
@Evil Cheese Wedge Anime-dubbing is the only major field of acting he doesn't do any work in. It requires a different kind of voice-over experience, which he doesn't have, and more importantly, he's most likely WAY out-of-budget. Given how prominent he is in acting (both voice-over and live-action), as well as how conservative and small-paying anime-dubbing is, it'd have been too much time, money, and effort to bring him back.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 11:17 PM on Sat Oct 13 2012
@Evil Cheese Wedge It's possible that he wasn't always meant to be the voice and he was just a temporary stand-in for the game. There are some other examples of that happening in Naruto (like the Akatsuki cameos towards the end of Part 1).
said at 9:50 AM on Tue Mar 10 2015
@Evil Cheese Wedge He really should play some character on the show. After all if they can get Fred Tatasciore and Jennifer Hale, why not Nolan North Too?
said at 9:44 AM on Tue Apr 18 2017
@Troodon2 & Wil smoking Wheaton. & Andrew Kishino & Matthew Yang King. There's plenty of names totally uncommon in anime that Naruto got. It's a really underrated dub. Bleach is like that too except it's non-union & a bit lower budget.

@pokemastanumba1 I can't recall if he was a police officer or not. There was a crime at a swimming pool/swimming competition or something. I'll try to find the link.

@pokemastanumba1 Yeah, that's it. I found it like, five minutes after I posted my last comment, but I flat out forgot to post it, ha ha.

@TylerMirage That's cool. Ever since Port Charles got the boot, he hasn't done much on-camera work, but I do see him on the big screen now and then.

Way to go Nolan for live-action roles!

@pokemastanumba1 Yeah, it's always cool to see VAs like Nolan, Garry Chalk, KMR, Richard Epcar, Mark Hamill - and even Tim Curry, Diedrich Bader and Brad Garrett - who are not only prolific VAs, but also have some great on-screen work as well. Show's all of their true talent.

@TylerMirage The latter three you mentioned are actually much more prominent in live-action than voice-over (Brad even starred in his own series "I Kid with Brad Garrett" after nine seasons of playing one of the leads in "Everybody Loves Raymond" ! ).

Though I would like to see Nolan do a bit more on camera. Honestly, I can't understand why Hollywood would choose anyone OTHER than him to play the live-action Drake in the Uncharted movie!!!

@pokemastanumba1 Yeah, I know they're more prominent in live-action, but when you factor in the basic 50/50 split of prolific live-action AND voice-acting, it's quite the combo. The other VAs I mentioned have a bit more uneven (not in a bad way) split of live-action to voice-acting. Say, 25/75 or 10/90 kind of numbers. :)

North as a live-action Drake? That'd be awesome. Though knowing Hollywood, they'd more than likely go for a more "household name" actor who can bring in the bucks with their name. :( You know, Tom Cruise, Chris Evans and whatnot.

@pokemastanumba1 Because Hollywood is being run by dumbasses? lol :-P

@TylerMirage & TheVengeanceKnight I just don't understand why Hollywood insists on casting celebrities who have little to no experience in voice acting for lead roles. It's really sickening, not to mention disheartening. I mean, there have been many successful theatre productions that didn't use a single celebrity!

I really can't see anyone else as Drake. I mean, Nolan obviously has the voice, on-camera experience (such as on the aforementioned CSI episode) and background knowledge of the Uncharted franchise. Heck, Nolan even LOOKS like Drake! If Hollywood doesn't cast him, then they clearly wouldn't know what they're doing.

Apparently he might be working on Transformers: Prime. Or at least, that's what was hinted at. I really want to know who he'd play! :D

@TylerMirage Prime is supposed to be in the same universe as WFC, so I think it'd be cool if he got to reprise Brawl or Bruticus.

@NCZ Yeah... I don't really put much faith in what Hasbro claims to be in-universe or canon with each other, ha ha. ;) Don't get me wrong, him voicing Brawl or Bruticus would be sweet. Personally, I'd like to hear his take on Shockwave.

@TylerMirage I actually love that the new games, the novels and Prime are all in the same universe - think it works out really well. What are your issues with it out of curiosity?

@OptimusSolo Pretty much any legitimate problem raised in this thread.

Some things match, some things don't. Even the fandom is divided as to whether or not they are/should be connected. They're not really "issues" as in "I'm super angry and completely apposed to the idea", they're moreso "issues" as in "there's little things that don't really add up".

People sometimes use the "they have same VAs so they're in the same universe"-argument. But then I point out Megatron, Arcee, Starscream, Cliffjumper. But the voices aren't that big of a deal, I admit that. Virtually no bearing on whether or not something is in continuity with another. Sometimes characters are completely different or serve different roles/functions; Arcee, Soundwave, Breakdown. Or for the example of TFP and RB: Optimus will apparently completely change his design in order to travel to the Rescue Bots gang. O.o (Yes, I realize that that has to do more with the overall aesthetic of the show, but still. If they want them to be in the same continuity, certain things *do* have to jive.)

So don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to the idea. I don't think there's anything *wrong* with it. If TFP directly mentions events in WFC/FOC, then that's fine. I'd LOVE to see a Rescue Bots/TFP crossover. But until I see TFP Ratchet snarking it up with RB Heatwave, or RB Optimus say to Chief Burns "I have a team of Autobots in Jasper Nevada", it's really no more than empty words about them being in the same universe.

@TylerMirage I don't necessarily agree or buy into the stretch of having Rescue Bots as part of it - but I haven't seen very many legit contradictions between TF Prime, the novels and the video games (the original things that were supposed to be of the same universe)

@OptimusSolo Yeah, as I said, I'm not against the idea. It's just one of those things where there definitely is evidence to support both cases. If you want them connected, then it will be. If you don't, then it won't. :)

Usually what gets me is the claims (not calling on you, NCZ) of things like "Troy Baker would probably voice Jazz in TFP because he voiced him in WFC/FOC", "Nolan North should voice Brawl in TFP because he voiced him in the game!" (using those as 'evidence' for linking them together) or "Sentinel Prime can't appear in TFP because Sentinel Prime died in WFC" or whatever. Being a VA for a character in one doesn't automatically mean they'd reprise the character in TFP. Or certain events/traits/situations in WFC/FOC don't automatically dictate what happens in TFP. I'm addressing crazy people on TFW2005 on that topic moreso than addressing VA fans or you guys. And that's basically where any potential animosity from me comes from, is people using crazy things to try and link them together.

As for RB, Bumblebee is set to appear in this coming episode, and he's apparently *supposed* to be the TFP version (or at least super dooper close to him). I'm curious to see how he turns out.
