Well I found out the reason that he never got recast as Eggman. Turns out he auditioned for the part again, and they rebooked him!

You know what they say: THE MORE THE MERRIER. TIME FOR A CHANGE OF PACE. Happy Birthday, Mike Pollock! My favorite roles from him consist of Meat, Adon, Dr. Eggman, Fastidious Beaver, Mayor Fink, Raoul Contesta, Arthur Hawkins, and Beast/Hank McCoy.

Since Mike Pollock frequents here, I was hoping he could answer some questions I've had on the chance he sees this comment:

1. Arthur Hawkins first appears near the end of Season 1 for Yu-Gi-Oh!, and does not make another appearance until season 4. Was it difficult to get back into the swing of things to get his voice back, or any other character where it's been years since you last did the role?

2. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of Sherlock Holmes, had written many other books, and was irritated that nobody mentioned his other books. Do you suffer from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Syndrome in regards to a certain mustached evil super-genius?

3. I heard an Auquafina commercial on the radio, and was able to recognize the speaker as you instantly. Is this recognition something voice actors strive for, especially with how VAs are not as easily identifiable on the train as a normal actor?

4. Do you stay in touch with any of the previous Sonic voice actors from 4Kids (Jason Griffith, Dan Green, Lisa Ortiz, etc.)?

5. What is your favorite voice role you have done that has not been credited on BTVA?

Thanks in advance.

@NoOriginalUsername

Hi. Sorry for the delay.

1. All I needed was a vocal reference. The rest fell into place naturally.

2. People only know what they know, and just like at rock concerts, people want to hear the hits. I work on dozens of projects a year that most people will never see or hear. As long as I pay attention to everything I do, especially when I'm doing it, that's really all that matters.

3. It's always nice to be recognized, but commercials are about the product, not about the voice talent.

4. Not intentionally, but I run into them around town as we all careen from gig to gig, and that's always fun. They're all on social media, so we keep in touch that way.

5. My first stand-alone voice over gig: the voice of the Gordon the Gorilla's animatronic head on Syracuse, New York's Zoo Bus back in about 1990. Sadly all remnants of it have been lost to history. Other than that, my commercial work doesn't get tracked at BTVA, but I collect it in a YouTube playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFD306F09DB3837E7

Thanks!

I'm so glad Sega didn't let him go when they replaced the entire voice cast in 2010. I still can't even picture of what he would sound like today without Pollock. He wouldn't sound the same, I give a whole lot of credit to Sega for not replacing him and letting him go. They made the right choice for keeping him to this day. He's the best Eggman!

@Anthonyiscool64 The best part is that he now has the opportunity to work with work with more LA-based voice actors--like Vic Mignogna, Kate Higgins, Steven Blum, Crispin Freeman, and even Troy Baker (although I'm still hoping that he'll get to work with Johnny Yong Bosch someday and/or re-locate to LA in the near future).

Hey Bonaparte,

Ran a quick fact check. That arc's cast credits initially reused those of the previous arc (the end of your major period as Arthur Hawkins), and towards the end you're still on, as if the creditmakers just didn't bother (because neither Arthur or Gurimo were in it).

Saw a few names added (Mathew Nichols, Cameron Thomas, Tom Wayland). One of them could be the effect-heavy Zorc, but you know how much the people love ya. :)

Just thought I'd put your mind at ease.

Mike Pollock should totally get a voice role in one of the DLCs that are coming out for Fallout 4.

What? Sean Schemmel was in the main game, and he does voice-work in both Texas AND New York.

@Bauglir100 The difference is that Sean Schemmel actually lives in California (is signed to an agency and everything). Mike Pollock lives in New York.

No, I kind of do too now: Parsons used to be great, but since the Unova League, he's been blatantly phoning it in to me.

@Dr.Who Parsons had great narrations in Battle Frontier and Sinnoh but by XY Cathcart just decided to give him corny lines. Plus he fell out of my favorite voices after I heard his rendition of Flint.

I agree, though it was around the League in BW Parsons began phoning it in as narrator, but you're right in XY his lines are corny and IMO he sounds lifeless compared to how energetic he used to be from OS-DP.

Happy Birthday Mike Pollock.

Dr. Eggman is easily the highlight of his career, no matter how bad the Sonic franchise sinks into Mike is the best part of it.

He was also hilarious in Berserk, Viva Pinata and had a lot good roles in Pokemon....yes even in the TCPI dub.

He's by far one of the best in New York and he's one of the friendliest too, not too long ago he replied to a Youtube comment I made on a RebelTaxi video which was simply "Oh Hi Mike Pollock". Simply put he's awesome.

Mike Pollock is an EXCELLENT second choice for Eggman that Sega picked. of course Deem Bristow will always be in my heart and I'll always have memories of his voice. but Mike has also created memories for me as well. even though I got the Sonic Riders games for the PS2 late. maybe two or three years ago if memory serves me correct. and I'm extremely thankful that they found another person that is also awesome as Eggman.

Having played SONIC COLORS in its entirety I can agree wholeheartedly about Pollock's performance as Eggman (as well as everyone else in that dub, too). But my favorite role from him is as another doctor of a different nature: Dr. Moustache from the seldom seen Jungle Emperor Leo movie. He sounded very warm and kindly, and did an excellent job of breaking down at the end of the film (you'd have to see it to know where I'm coming from).
