He's an overrated voice director IMO. He's good, but he's not great.
Seems he likes to reuse a lot of the same VAs in all dubs he directs = manufactured dub, sometimes stales
Lately I don't even care about dub casts for stuff he directs because I can already predict most of who the VAs will be...
On the other hand dub directed by someone like Christopher Bevins always sounds fresh, casts new VAs and actually challenges some of the veterans/more experienced VAs instead of just typecasting them.
Getting off topic... this is supposed to be about voice acting itself.
Characters voiced by Mike McFarland I like:
*Master Roshi (Dragon Ball Universe)
*Buggy (One Piece)
*Sky Master (Heaven's Lost Property)
*Kozo Ukita (Kenichi)
*Jiro Yoshidayama (School Rumble)
Also a pretty good George (Case Closed) but I do prefer Dameon Clarke's voice.

Also pretty interesting that he's worked on a few Houston and L.A. dubs a few years ago. I guess this was before he became a permanent fixture for Funimation. :)
My favorite dubs he's directed are One Piece and Shiki.
I originally assumed Shiki would be yet another overrated title that I would rate average/nothing special (e.g. Evangelion movies, Eden of the East and Trinity Blood) but I'm actually really enjoying it so far!
@freezeframe100
He does seem to direct a lot of the more "bigger" titles for Funimation, but since I don't really care for most of them I can't really complain if he does sort of use the same core group of VAs for lead roles.
For me there are very few FUNi dubs for certain anime titles I actually get excited about...
But if I were a fan of those titles I guess I can somewhat understand your frustration.
I noticed he has yet to cast these FUNi VAs in lead roles for titles he directs:
*Jamie Marchi
*Duncan Brannan
*Andrew Love
In McFarland's defense though I have noticed he at least does a better job integrating Houston talent (ADV Films/Sentai Filmworks VAs) than most of the other ADR Directors at Funimation. That should count for something. :)
e.g. David Wald and Shelley Calene-Black are both favorites of mine.
There are quite a few other Houston VAs I'd like to hear in some FUNi dubs; maybe he'll be the director to give them their chance.
