Maybe I'll change my opinion about Maile just slightly. Sorta like this: there was a time I used to adore her performance as the titular character, because hey! I also used to watch Naruto a lot and enjoyed it for what it was. Both Maile and Junko do have some similarities (one being that they're both female voice actors and another being that they both play the character in a rather exaggerated and annoying way; that is quite fitting as well).
However as years have passed, I started to dislike her performance as Naruto. Why? Maybe because Flanagan's voice, along with the character, himself, started becoming stale around Shippuden; the time when I stopped caring about the series altogether.
I also had no real idea at the time that Maile has voiced other characters aside from Uzumaki Naruto. Perhaps I took too many arrows to the knee or my mindset was a little too biased and/or overly megalomaniacal.
Jackson_H pretty much said it better himself, folks.
But for whom I wanted to be casted as Naruto might've been either Barbara Goodson or Wendee Lee. If you think my suggestions were pathetic to say the least, then that's fine with me. Your preference ;)

I really like her voice for Naruto.
She gets way too much hate from some "fans".
I can understand that they've gotten accustomed to hearing the voice in Japanese (after all the show was available through fansubs for years before it was finally licensed and dubbed into English for North America) but their preference doesn't change the fact that her work is good.
She uses a believable voice and does the character justice IMO.
Some might say "it sounds annoying".
Hello? The character's personality is supposed to be annoying at times (in Japanese and any language).
That's why it's kind of a big deal when this knucklehead actually matures throughout the story.
She actually has voiced some other characters in different shows & movies, but we haven't gotten around to adding them yet. :)

@Jackson_H I feel sorry for her too. The "fans" clearly don't know that this lady has won an Emmy! IMO, if any actor has won an Emmy, it's safe to say that they're a good actor. No, she didn't win it for Naruto (she won it for Jakers), but it still counts!
The Japanese voice plays the character very similarly. Some people comment on Naruto being played by/sounding like a girl. Umm.... it's even more obvious in the Japanese version!
But I think most people like her performance, since her voice obviously didn't stop the show from getting huge ratings on Cartoon Network and YTV. I think it's just a division of the Naruto fan base online that gangs up on her. Maile should never even read the official Viz Naruto message board! For some reason, Johnny Yong Bosch is spared from the hate for his role in Bleach... It's kinda the same with the "Daizex" fans for Dragon Ball ganging up on Sean Schemmel, even though according to a poll on the Dragon Ball Wiki that garners thousands of votes, 80% of fans like the FUNi version the best!

My God. Most of Maile's voice roles are really nothing but Naruto, and who knows how much I started to intentionally dislike the series as a whole. Honestly, when I did like Naruto as a kid and I heard his voice in English, I literally thought that was actually a young boy. But years later, I did research and found that that Naruto was voiced by a woman in her 40s... Meh. This is starting to get pretty generic for me, as woman can do boy voices so much better than some ordinary little kid... For starters, look at Mona Marshall's take on Shu from Blue Dragon and then Yuri Lowenthal. Who takes the trophy? I'd say Mona, because Yuri just LOVES to overreact when he does a kid (with the only exception being Simon from Gurren Lagann, in my opinion... Because in the Japanese version, even in his younger age, Simon was voiced by a dude known as Tetsuya Kakihara) Overall, I never actually cared for the manga or anime adaptations, but I'll say just this: Naruto is one of the fewer anime I will prefer in its original language, and not because of how cool it sounds, NO. It is that I prefer it because Junko Takeuchi, the seiyuu for the main character, can put more emphasis on emotion and actually put Naruto in a believable area... Even if I hate the series for its genericness.
