Happy Birthday Linda Young!

My top 5 favourite roles from her are:

1.) Genkai (Yu Yu Hakusho)
2.) Porlyusica (Fairy Tail)
3.) Fortuneteller Baba (Dragon Ball Z)
4.) Piiza (Dragon Ball Z)
5.) Shan (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

I actually like the fact that even though she's no longer Freeza, Chris Sabat did at least keep her as Baba and Piiza, I definitely prefer her in both of those roles.

I do have to wonder if Chris Sabat will cast her or Brina Palencia as Arale for when her episodes in Super are dubbed. Come to think of it I have no idea how that sounds. I'm a bit curious how Linda portrays a little girl robot.

also it's interesting and amusing that she's John Burgmeier's mother. Genkai being Kurama's mother and son in real life.

I just found out she was just cast in the dub of Hyouka, and they announced it on her birthday.

Great Timing FUNimation!

@Autovolt propably not, otherwise sabat would not have replaced her in the games

Her performance as Frieza in DBZ back in 1999 is kinda outdated. She's improved tremendously since then if you look at the video games from 2009-2011. She 's actually quite comparable to Chris Ayers.

Happy Birthday Linda Young!

While I've never been that big of a fan of her Frieza. I do however think she was just perfect as Genkai in Yu Yu Hakusho, she had a lot of spunk to the role of the wise old mentor.

She was also pretty good as Porlyusica in Fairy Tail also.

It'd be nice to see her get another major role again in the near future.

She was a great Frieza and spot on as Genkai. A lot of people like Chris Ayers better, but I'm half and half. I think she gave Frieza a more creepy feel, where as, Ayers made Frieza more articulate.

The original Frieza.

@Joel the Pokekid Ryusei Nakao, Pauline Newstone and Kevin Seymour would disagree.

Dude, come on. You know he means the original (Funimation) Frieza.

@InvertiHerikawa Then he should have specified that. Even then, he would still be wrong. The dub which first featured Pauline Newstone and all of those other Canadian actors was still produced and owned by Funimation.

Not quite - I'll expand what Joel wanted to say fully: The original (in house Funimation) Frieza.

You're honestly just nitpicking at this point.

@InvertiHerikawa I'm glad you can see into the mind of a random person on the Intermet to add a qualifier to his factually incorrect statement. I might as well nitpick it. This is too silly for me to take seriously. Why do you care anyway?

You're being unnecessarily brutal and mean, and your replies wreak of your aggression. Pardon me, but I don't turn a blind eye to people like you.

And for the record, this discussion is over. We know the facts regarding Frieza's voices (I mean, the info is listed right here on this website), so there's honestly no reason to let you continue making attempts to bite my head off.

This and your other comments started setting off big time "gee, this seems oddly familiar" alarm bells. Looked up your info. Oh look, you're Sk8erPrince and you haven't changed or matured at all in the past 6 months. Making an alt account is an offence in itself, especially if you're completely unwilling or incapable to change anything about why you were banned first time around. Learn to stop picking fights and being confrontational because of their anime dub preferences.

@NCZ Oh, wonderful. Why does that not surprise me? Man, I didn't even remember the original comment. It's such a weird thing to drudge up.

@Nightmare Crusher

I dunno you vaguely brought the sanctity of dubs into question once over a year and a half ago and that is a crime unforgivable by galactic law.

@NCZ I initially had suspicions that he was someone familiar that was troublesome in the past. The one thing that kinda gave it away was the comment that he posted on the Escaflowne page that was promptly deleted. Can't remember what the exact comment was but it did sound kinda condescending. What I want to know is why he decided to come back if he's going to start trouble again?

shame she doesnt play more old ladies in the anime culture.
her, Barbara Goodson and juli erickson are one of the voices that come to mind when I think of it.
for me, the voice of Genkai really worked.

It appears that Linda's made a sort of comeback in voice acting for anime. She's had roles in several shows recently. Granted, not big roles, but she does have a knack for playing older women (it would've been interesting if she had played the grandmother in Summer Wars). It would be interesting if she was cast as some younger women. Her voice does have an interesting tone to it, and it would work well for younger women in certain cases, such as Fasha in DBZ (granted that casting was likely a result of FUNi having a very small talent pool at the time, but still, I enjoyed that voice).

Um, crediting her as Frieza for DBZ Kai is kind of misleading since she only voiced his laughs in the first episode's opening. Chris Ayres voiced him afterwards.

@Galactic_Cyrus We know that, but regardless of how little material she got, she still voiced him.

@NCZ IIRC wasn't it reused from the Bardock special anyway?
