Happy birthday to Laura Bailey, who in my opinion is the best female voice actress ever. She is such a talented actress who can all ways put a smile on my face, from her laugh to her smile, even from her being funny like in the latest power puff girl episode she guess star in, she always makes me happy even a lot of her characters are some of my personal fav too. So what I want to say it thank you for making me happy, & I hope she enjoys her birthday.

It's worth noting that both her & Travis Willingham seem to be cast less in anime & are being cast in more video games these days. I get the feeling that even they will go the way of Troy Baker soon where they won't dub anime anymore. It's happening gradually but it does explain why she wouldn't have been able to reprise her Rise from Persona for one game. That being said, she has come a long way from her early days at Funimation.

Credit where it's due, many VAs have an excellent range and do an excellent job. But Laura is truly something else, always superb and brings a range of vocal talent that's simply next to impossible to beat. It's amazing her number of credits and characters that sound nothing like any other she's done.

Always on her A-game and never one to "phone it in" so to speak, it's easy for most anyone to see why her fan base is so broad and devoted. She's just amazing, all the time. And she lends her talent to areas of entertainment for us with such a broad stroke, you just never know when you might get to hear, or see, her next!

Would love to meet her one day - she's definitely in my top 5 VAs ever, hands down. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I'm very shocked that she was in Glitter Force. With all the stuff she's been working on ever since she left FUNimation(especially those M-rated games) it's just a big shock to me that she would return to anime in such a "girly" show like Glitter Force.

Same (well, minus the "girly" part), but I'll give them credit in that at least Saban still has an idea how to cast good voice actors in their dubs, despite them being stuck in the 90s with dubbing style (same goes for others, though, to this day, not specific to them at all).

@NCZ Technically, yes. However, RWBY is heavily inspired by anime. Plus, it's recorded in Austin, which is a free-working state, meaning that all VO projects down there are non-union. Either way, I'm always happy to hear her voice.

@BioZero216 "all VO projects down there are non-union".

IIRC, right-to-work states simply allow non-union workers in union productions.

This basically exempts people from having to be union members, thus allowing producers to use sweatshop talent for their major projects.

It does NOT mean that Tom Kane, Dameon Clarke, or Crispin Freeman can visit Texas & do anime...lol

@Autovolt While the whole speculation on who is a union VA is shaky at best(not only that but a lack of info) the one way you can usually tell when an anime uses unionized VA's is seeing whether or not Steve Blum, Crispin Freeman or Kari Wahlgren are in the dubs themselves.

I certainly agree. It's lame she hasn't be reprising many of her roles, but once you start landing those big AAA games and pre-lay, you have to weight the options you have. Anime pay is still to this game insultingly low and it get's under my skin just how low it is.
Unknownsage13
said at 10:30 PM on Fri Sep 4 2015
@Gaddes Also it's the scheduling for anime. I remember when Troy Baker was interviewed on why Kanji was recast with Matthew Mercer midway through the Persona 4 anime. Troy basically said the anime schedule is super strict and that he had to leave for a week for his honeymoon.
Chances are Laura is just sick of the schedule. And would rather have the more lenient videogame hours.
huzaifa_ahmed
said at 12:22 PM on Mon Dec 28 2015
@Unknownsage13

"Bad" scheduling tends to be due to "strategic" budgeting. You schedule the studio (Studiopolis, BZ, etc.) for a certain amount of hours, & haul in as many folks as you can cram in that day. Re-scheduling is not a luxury they can afford.

Both this issue and the volunteer-esque pay for dubbing voice-over, is based in the offensively low dubbing budgets overall.

I believe the companies don't take it seriously, due to being post-production, as opposed to an actual part of the show.

After all, even Disney's Doraemon only ever got previously involved actors, Stitch not getting the cast back from L&S. Europe-dubs also only have Bryce, Strassman, Thornton, etc.

So, it's not really about limited appeal, niche audience, etc.

The only time we get massive-budget (non-celebrity) productions are for American-funded stuff, like IGPX/Afro Samurai.

I'm not exactly sure how Japanese dubbing business practice works, with A-listers like Ono, Hayashibara, Wakamoto, commonly dubbing Tim Curry or Tara Strong. Not sure why this is...

@TheMorganBerry Maybe it's not hopeless. Maybe she's just taking a long break from anime. Lex Lang was gone from it for years, and he eventually came back, just recently. At least she reprised Maka in Soul Eater Not. Maybe it's a start.

@Jared Delgado It kinda just makes me envision several of my favorite voice actresses and what they would sound like if they were hired on to do mainstream American games. Like would Kari Wahlgren only ever use her Celty voice? Luci Christian just her Medusa voice? Stephanie Sheh just her Tharja!? The horror!!!!
DisneyAnimefan1995
said at 9:48 PM on Fri Sep 11 2015
@Unknownsage13 I'm with you on what you said, It's been a while since Laura Bailey has appeared in a new anime title (aside from her reprisal as Maka in Soul Eater Not! and continuing her anime roles in Digimon Fusion and Naruto Shippuden) and would love to hear her voice again.

Unfortunately, due to the lucrative high demand video games have to offer including those of the AAA genre, along with the fact that the pay scale is a lot higher than anime, this makes things more difficult for her due to schedule conflicts and having to turn down new anime roles, especially if it's a character she voiced before.

I understand that she is moving on to Large Grandeur projects that will satisfy her wages, and I respect her wishes as a voice actress, I just hope she isn't moving on from anime voice acting for good, and maybe it's what BioZero said she could be taking a "hiatus" from anime voice acting.

Happy Birthday Laura Bailey!

She is incredible and it's really not hard to see why she's one of the more popular VA's here and in general. She's got an amazing vocal range that can be cute or sexy, looks gorgeous and is really sweet too.

My top two favourite roles of hers couldn't be any further apart from each other. Maka Albarn, a cute kind yet badass bookworm heroine who carries a scythe and then there's Lust, a evil though somewhat sympathetic and tragic homunculus that is as deadly as she is gorgeous.

I also loved her as Lucina, Pao-Lin Huang/Dragon Kid, Trunks, Dieter, Leite Jokin, Rakshata Chawla, Kanako Kasugazaki, Black Widow, Firestar, Abigal Brand, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Chun-Li, Platinum the Trinity and The Boss.

There are still a lot of roles of hers I have yet to see and I plan on checking them out in the near future.

also Travis Willingham is one of the luckiest guys alive being married to a woman like Laura.

Laura Bailey is one of the best, talented & Beautiful Actresses I have ever meant/Heard/Seen. She is my Celebrity Crush. But of course she is a great talented voice actress from her cartoon, movies, and video games, even commercials now, but of fantastic in anime. Even when she is in some thing not good (Cg Swan princess, Final Fantasy XIII, Digimon fusion, Lego Super hero projects, Super hero Squad Etc.) She still brings a fun performance & that's what I love about her. She also plays some of my favorites characters in various series. From: Lucina, Tohru Honda Maka, Lust, Black widow (yes from that weak excuse of a avengers show), Kushina, Cheria, Keiko, Rise Etc. Bottom line she is a fantastic person & a fantastic talented. While I just started listening to her anime work, she is one of my all time favorites in the business (beaten only by her father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate). She also did this interview last year which put voice acting in a different perspective for me, because I've been a little peeved recently about the increase in celebrity voice actors. It was a nice read and made me appreciate her a lot more not only as an actress, but as a person.

Laura Bailey is awesome!!! she is easily my favorite in the girl list. I'm glad I know who does Trunks and Shin now. after all this time, I feel I don't know kinda stupid.

One of the most prominent female leads in the industry, my personal favorite roles of hers would have to be Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket), Trunks (DB franchise), Serah Farron (Final Fantasy), Chun-Li (SFIV onwards), and Henrietta (Gunslinger Girl).

Happy Birthday Laura! :D

Enjoyed your voice work on Star Wars Tor as Kira Carsen, I have not played through the whole storyline yet, but I have enjoyed what i have so far.

Hoping to get some of your Anime work soon to hear your voice acting. Would enjoy hearing about how you enjoy the voice work and what you have planned next.

Does anyone know if she voiced the main character Kei Tsuchiya (Rina Takeda) of the japanese movie High Kick Girl (Hai kikku gรขru!) in 2009? It does sound like Laura, but i can't find any information about it.

She has so many roles, and so many different voices. Honestly I have to say I was quite surprised when I looked on here and saw all her different roles. Shes a big inspiration for me. And since I'd like to be VA sometime, I don't know how to kick off a career.

Laura Bailey is arguably one of the best female voice actors around! I love just about every role she's had. Her voice is very comforting for the ears and very sexy I might add. She's also very lovely looking herself.
