His voice reminds me more of Johnny Yong Bosch more than Brad Swaile's does. Both have light, pleasant heroic, sounds, though I think Johnny sounds a little rougher.

I hear he's been doing more on-camera work as of late, which is probably why we haven't heard him in a lot of recent cartoons. That, and his his voice is recognisable enough that people can't cast him into a dozen roles in a single show like they do with Brian Drummond and Tabitha St Germain. I still miss hearing Kirby in shows though; he's tied with Sam Vincent as one of my favourite male Canadian VAs.

@mweloo Dangit, hit the "post" button too soon. My favourite role from him will always be Van- stubborn, passionate (to the point of being impulsive), and kind by turns, and Kirby pulled it off brilliantly- I daresay he was born to play noble characters. His Mikami and Miroku were highlights too- it was wonderful hearing him really grow into Miroku's character, especially when I thought he sounded a bit flat in the beginning. Halfway into the original series, I thought he'd mastered the art of sounding stoic/deadpan without sounding flat. His Mikami was a highlight too, sounded both calculatingly cold and fervently mad at the same time. You could feel the thirst/desperation in his voice; the desire to pursue his warped ideals.

Oh, and Hasegawa sounds flat-out demented. I like how he adopts a slightly stilted speech pattern in the clip.

@mweloo While we're talking about Inuyasha, I feel that I didn't give like I didn't give his performance during Miroku's more serious moment enough credit in my earlier posts. It's during those moments that Kirby uses the natural warmth in his voice to the fullest, and I think it lends a quiet dignity in line with Miroku's demeanour when he's not womanising.

I'd finished watching The Final Arc's episode 12 earlier, and it just struck me that I hadn't mentioned that. (Fittingly, that episode was titled, "Sango's feelings, Miroku's Resolve".)

I think that's enough gushing for the night. I'm just feeling super-nostalgic right now. :D

I never really got into Death Note or Inuyasha, so to me, he'll always be Van Fanel.

Did watch Kurozuka, though. I had no idea he was behind Hasegawa's voice. It's not a show I'd recommend, but his performance was one of the highlights.

Happy Birthday Kirby Morrow!

He is definitely one of the my favourite underrated VA's. He has a very cool and smooth voice that breathes charisma into so many of his roles. I've got three favourite performances of his. The first is Miroku from InuYasha, probably the funniest character he's voiced. He nails the smooth talking wannabe Casanova lecherous con artist monk he is. The second is Hot Shot on Transformers: Cybertron, Hot Shot has always been a favourite character of mine, I feel Kirby brought a greater deal of charisma to the role surpassing Brent Miller who voiced him in the previous series and third and finally there is Teru Mikami on Death Note, his massive playing against type role. One of the few major villains he's voiced in his career and He IS GLORIOUS! I love how he chewed the scenery doing Mikami's infamous DELETE scenes. He was fantastic in the last episode when he had his major breakdown. I wish Kirby would voice more villains, he rocks at them.

I also love his other roles including Cyclops, Van Fanel, Ryo Takatsuki, ElecMan.EXE, Billy Katagiri, Trowa Barton, Gyunei Guss, Jay, Josh Kirkpatrick, Tommy, General Grievous, Anakin Skywalker and he's probably my favourite of the Ocean Goku's.

I personally thought he had a good voice for Goku but honestly I think he would be far more suited to voice Future Trunks instead, maybe and hopefully in Ocean's dub of DBZ Kai it could happen.

I think one of the best performances in Kirby Morrow's voice acting career has to be Hasegawa in the rather obscure anime Kurozuka. I mean he's no stranger to voicing villains, having voiced a few of them thus far in his career but this time as the main big bad of the Red Imperial Army. Hasegawa is a shrewd mad scientist and his voice is pitched a bit up higher and has a great evil sneer in his voice, he also hammed it up especially when Hasegawa turned into a monstrous beast sounding very gruff and bestial, man this entire character and performance, I felt really showed off the acting and vocal range he's really capable of. I'd honestly say this was the stand out performance in the entire Kurozuka dub, not to say everyone else wasn't great or at their A-Game but this was one of the more unique voice acting performances I have heard in some time.

I also really loved his performance as Rey Za Burrel in Gundam Seed Destiny, again not the best anime ever but for the most part I'd honestly argue he voiced the role FAR better than Toshihiko Seki who was while not bad was kind of missing a certain pop to his performance that Kirby was able to bring. I thought he nailed the character breakdown at the end far better than his Japanese counterpart IMO.

He was very enjoyable in the Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales series, while I've mentioned before that I really liked his takes on Anakin Skywalker and General Grievous, I think in Droid Tales he was really hilarious, especially with how they wrote Anakin in that, I couldn't stop laughing.

I also dig his performance as Xenetes in Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll.

I really wish we'd see more of Kirby in more voice acting roles, I know he's a lot more busy these days with doing live-action work though whenever I get to hear him in something new, that's exciting to me. Hopefully he has a role in either or both of the upcoming World Trigger and/or Gintama dubs.

Happy Birthday Kirby Morrow!

I saw Kirby recently in a TV Movie called Murder, She Baked: A Plum Pudding Mystery where he plays a con artist named Larry Jaeger who becomes the murder victim in the story.

I thought he was easily the most entertaining part of the movie, he was a slick fast talking kind of con man, it sort of reminded me a bit of his performance as Miroku from InuYasha at times.

The movie itself is nothing too special, it's a typical murder mystery TV movie but it was cool getting to see him in live-action, it's also worth noting that other fellow Vancouver VA's Garry Chalk and Kazumi Evans also appear in this.

If you're in the mood for it, check it out.

@Metabad It's from his character in Death Note, Mikami. He appears in the second half of the series, but the moment I'm referring to would be a big time spoiler. Still, it's so unbelievably over-the-top that your brain would explode from the awesome.
