1.) Johan Liebert (Monster)
2.) Char Aznable/Full Frontal (Gundam)
3.) Hisoka (Hunter X Hunter)
4.) Professor Tomoe (Sailor Moon)
5.) Vector the Crocodile (Sonic the Hedgehog)
6.) Torbjorn (Overwatch)
7.) Hawkmoth (Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir)
8.) Tom Tanaka (Durarara!!)
9.) Robert E.O. Speedwagon (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
10.) Deep Sea King (One Punch Man)
He's definitely cemented himself as one of the best dub VA's for villains.
Keith is a true talent with a cool voice great as Hisoka, Coyote Stark, Kimimaro, Johan Liebert,Full Frontal,Speedwagon, Hawkmoth, Char Aznable, and Mikoto suoh
Easily by far one of the most versatile voice actors in anime who can go to so many different vocal ranges in anime, but also in video games and original animation.
My favorite role from him this year was Hisoka in "Hunter x Hunter", as he perfectly captures both the flamboyant and creepy personality of his seiyuu. I considered it to be one of the standout performances in the dub, and can't wait for his performances in the last episodes of the Heaven's Arena arc, along with the Yorknew and Greed Island arcs. Speaking of which, I don't doubt he might also get to voice either Ging Freecss or Kite, given he has shared a couple of roles from their respective seiyuus (Rikiya Koyama and Shuichi Ikeda respectively).
I also enjoyed his performances as Coyote Starrk, Kimimaro, Tom Tanaka, Johan Liebert, Deep Sea King, Hawkmoth, AZ, Kenji Tsukino, Professor Tomoe, Cain Morris, Mikoto Suoh, and Hydra Heads.
So Happy Birthday and Merry Christmas Keith Silverstein.
Happy Birthday, Keith Silverstein! Three words: can't. be. pigeonholed. I really appreciate how casting directors allow him to stretch his range; to say he isn't a one-trick pony would be an understatement. With that said, my favorite Silverstein roles consist of Hisoka, Zasalamel, AZ, Simon Belmont, Mondo Ohwada, Torbjorn, Gouken, Vector the Crocodile, Johnny Boya, Zen, Nurarihyon (Young), Dom Pyro, Coyote Starrk, Hydra Heads, Zack, Deep Sea King, Hawkmoth, Red Rider, Blast Off, and Gagin.
Happy Birthday Keith! You're an awesome actor and thank you for all the characters you've brought to life. Your weirdly seductive Hisoka voice is probably my favorite part of Hunter x Hunter.
Keith is one of those anime VA's that gets plenty of opportunity to stretch his range as a VA. To the point where I consider him the anime equivalent of Robin Atkin Downes. It's also hard to pin point his voice in alot of stuff. He's like a chameleon.
Guys his Hisoka is amazingly good. I had my doubts. But those can be put to rest. I can say that my favorite parts of the Hunter X Hunter 2011 dub is his performance and Kurapika.
I have to say, it's something I've only noticed recently, but it goes back for quite a while now that I look at all his roles to refresh me memory. I love how casting directors really seem to take advantage of Keith's range. He doesn't really seem to be typecast or pigeonholed into one type of role in particular. He's probably one of the more versatile actors in the California dubbing sphere.
@NCZ You are absolutely right. He's like the anime equivalent to Robin Atkin Downes, because of how versatile he is & the fact that not a whole lot of his roles sound similar to each other.
My Top 10 Favorite Voices of Keith Silverstein!
1. Vector The Crocodile (Sonic)
2. Mikoto Suoh (K)
3. Shen (League of Legends)
4. Pang De (Dynasty Warriors)
5. HUNK (Resident Evil)
6. Blast Off (Transformers)
7. Tom Tanaka (Durarara!!)
8. Zen (Persona)
9. Mondo Ohwada (Dangan Ronpa)
10. Arsene Lupin III (Lupin the 3rd) ^__^
One of the coolest and smoothest sounding voices I have ever heard dubbing anime.
I find it amusing that my top favourite roles of his are both evil blonde hair bishonens...Johan Liebert and Char Aznable/Full Frontal. Johan is considered one of the greatest anime villains of all time and wow he had such a chilling presence and a creepy aura, Keith also used a lighter pitch than he usually does so it stands out from a lot of his other roles. As for Char, I haven't heard but based on his Full Frontal, he might just be the best English Char yet, surpassing Michael Kopsa and matches Char's great seiyuu Shuichi Ikeda.
I also loved his performances as Vector the Crocodile, Tom Tanaka, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Kenji Tsukino, Yusuke Amade, Zen, Nurarihyon (Young), Cain Morris, Hydra Heads, Masrur, Goltas, Villagiulio, Seiji Haitani, Johnny Boya, Red Rider, Blast Off, Rumble and Frenzy.
I'm looking forward to see how he pulls off Professor Tomoe in Viz's dub of Sailor Moon S, Tomoe is a fun villain and he'll have to be very over the top to match both Akira Kamiya and Jeff Lumby. However I'm sure Keith will nail him.
I truly believe Keith Silverstein was this years MVP when it came to dubbing. This might have easily been his best year in his entire career having the opportunity to have so many major roles in numerous projects.
First of all to book the coveted role of the sinister, flamboyant and creepy Hisoka in Hunter X Hunter, this was a perfect casting choice. While I'll miss Brendan Hunter's rendition, Silverstein is so effectively creepy in this part, so creepy that even some of his own dub co-stars get creeped out when hearing his recordings as the character.
Another highlight of Keith's range the past year was his many performances in Smile Precure or "Glitter Force" as Ulric/Wolfrun, Brute/Akaoni and Rascal/Joker. It's pretty crazy that he voiced 3 of the main villains in the series and managed to make all of them sound distinctive from one another. Say what you want about the localization of the dub but the casting of Keith alone was great.
I also loved his performances as Deep Sea King, Hawkmoth, Professor Tomoe, Torbjorn, Jasper Sitwell, Moon Knight, Gouken, Charon and just yesterday the final episode of Pokemon Generations came out and he voiced AZ.
It's a shame Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers dub still has not been given a proper release in the west, I would very much like to hear more of Keith in the role of War Machine, the idea alone is a great idea.
Keith has been on fire all this year and I hope he can continue this momentum he's been very fortunate to have this year.
He's my top choice for this years BTVA anime awards for best male VA.
Happy 45th Birthday Keith Silverstein, surprisingly on Christmas Eve. You did well with Vector the Crocodile these past 5 years, as usual, keep up the Good Work.
The fact that both he and Beau Billingslea are the only African-Americans that managed to get their chance on anime voice-over can be pretty competitive, especially considering that many anime characters are depicted as white, regardless of nationality. But they're veterans, so they have more chances. I can only hope that any other african-american interested in anime voice-over can get that chance.
@AntiSabat666 possibly, given that he was born in proximity to New York City (where there is a significant Jewish-American (to be more precise Ashkenazi Jewish) population). This would make him Afro-Jewish-American.
@NCZ Interesting, I figured Vic Mingogna would be a good Kakyoin but moreso the perfect Yoshikage Kira. Just a side note: I prefer Kakyoin's voice from ASB, his anime voice is a little too deep.
