I'm glad he's doing well enough to come back to voice acting.

Still it's a shame he missed out on reprising some of his then ongoing roles the past year but it couldn't be helped.

It's a shame he's still on medical leave, I was hoping he'd return as Father Fujimoto in Blue Exorcist's 2nd season.

I mean Hiroaki Hirata is doing a good enough job filling in, I didn't notice the change at first but still it's not the same.

@TempestBlade Did something happen to him?

@Metabad

Due to an undisclosed illness he took a medical leave from his VA career in August. It was supposed to be temporary and as far as I can tell he's still on break. Hope all the best for him.

@NCZ "Unspecified leave & unexpected leave for treatment, almost always means cancer." Rob Paulsen had this as well. Although I agree of course. Hoping it works out for the guy. He always brings a cool, rough energy to his work, I'd hate to see him go.

@huzaifa_ahmed

But it's not confirmed is the point. In absence of official word anything else is speculation.

Happy Birthday, Keiji Fujiwara! He's a great seiyuu generally speaking and one that people ought to take note of if they want to introduce themselves to anything subbed. My favorite Fujiwara performances at the moment include Gate, Esidisi, Axel, Deldro Brody, Yo Shikada, Leorio Paladiknight, Mewtwo, Tetsu "Papa" Asahina, and Silver Karasu/Kagi Tanaka.

Happy Birthday Keiji Fujiwara!

He was one of the first major seiyuu's I started to take notice of when I started getting into watching subs and appreciating the Japanese side of voice acting.

My favourite role of his is a tie between Father Shiro Fujimoto in Blue Exorcist and Leorio Paladiknight in Hunter X Hunter. I seem to notice that he's often cast as gruff yet wacky guys with glasses, since Maes Hughes also fits into this category too. His character in World Trigger also looks very similar as well.

I also loved his performances as Ali Al-Saachez/Gary Biaggi, Holland Novak, Esidisi, Kinnosuke Kuzuhara, Ryuzen Goto, Aldebaran, Deldro Brody and Mewtwo.

and much like other great seiyuu's like Koichi Yamadera and Toshiyuki Morikawa, Fujiwara is one of the many greats dubbing western shows too.

I really love Fujiwara's works in the Transformers franchise. He does a surprisingly great job as Megatron in Prime and in the Q Transformers series. His Grimlock in Animated is also rather fitting, and he was a good choice to play Dinobot in Beast Wars despite how bad that dub is.

I also really love his take on Iron Man and The Joker. His Joker especially is definitely one of the best live-action dubbed performances I've heard to date.

@Autovolt " I seem to notice that he's often cast as gruff yet wacky guys"

Would you maybe compare him to John DiMaggio in that regard? Especially when you consider that both have voiced the Joker?

My favorite Japanese voice actor. Surprised he's not in the top 10 most viewed Japanese VAs seeing how prolific and talented he is!

@FUNiman Upon seeing the show Rainbow, Ryuuji is now my favorite role of his. He put everything he had into every syllable and had me all misty-eyed...
