Happy Birthday and RIP John Stephenson!

He was one of Hanna-Barberas finest VAs they had in their talent pool. Mr. Slate was perhaps his most iconic role he ever voiced and one I often think of when the name John Stephenson is brought up. His work on Transformers was also great. Alpha Trion was personally my favourite performance of the Transformers he voiced.

Hard to believe hes been gone only just a few short months now, but I am sure he is resting in peace now.

He left his prints all around the ever-looping backgrounds of the Scoobyverse, from creepers to sheriffs; cracking thunder like no other machine could or has since; even presenting us with the most ridiculous introduction to a comic book super baddie this side of a wooden gun; all the while never failing to leave us a slate full of memories.

RIP John

RIP, John Stephenson. Man, he was in a lot of things over the years. I always liked his voice for Thundercracker on Transformers and his Kup was really good too. His Thundercracker and Benton Quest sounded so different.

Another legend sleeps, and one that has managed to leave a long impression on our lives. I think it's going to be difficult to imagine how much our lives as well as Animation will be without people like John Stephenson to bring something unique to them.

Such a shame that he died for real this time. Though I wish it was another sick, cruel joke rather than actual reality.

He gave us such memorable characters, mainly from Hanna-Barbera cartoons which included Mr. Slate, Fancy Fancy, Doggy Daddy, a bunch of amazing Scooby Doo villains and much much more.

Even some of the Transformers. Nice.

RIP John Stephenson, you're a voice acting Legend that played a big part in many childhoods throughout different generations of people.

We'll still hear you and we won't forget you.

Aw man!!! the only character i know of his work is John Arable from the original Charlotte's Web. I really like that character but i do see Mr. Slate now. It sucks to see the news of someone who passed on. It's quite a big downer.

John was that actor that was always there for kids growing up through the years, as he had appeared in so many hanna barbera cartoons and kept in appearing in TV up until 2010. John had a fantastic vocal range and could be either very funny or very serious when he needed to be, and up until his retirement, you could tell he was having so much fun every time he voiced a character. He will be incredibly missed but his legacy will live on in all of the fantastic shows and characters that he voiced for. RIP

According to SSDI records, he passed away on December 29, 2012. They guess in Las Vegas. He was such a reclusive person.
said at 10:40 AM on Mon Dec 2 2013
@RYBAI I don't know if that's true or not. There's a lot of sources that say he's still alive but there is also those few that say he's dead. It's very hard to tell as he rarely made public appearances. But that's not to say he's dead or that he's alive. Just go with what you think, its makes things easier.
said at 7:04 PM on Sat Dec 7 2013
@Ross123 I really don't know. He is a recluse. His last public appearance was 12 years ago at BotCon 2001. I honestly don't think he's dead.
said at 8:23 AM on Sun Dec 8 2013
@RYBAI Not long after I made my post, I made a page on the topic in the forums. You should check it out when you get the chance. Well you don't have to check it out if you don't want to, it's just a suggestion. Anyway, we have evidence that he is alive on there.
