Jan Rabson is a good voice actor no doubt, but his turn as Tetsuo was terrible. Totally lacking in nuance and all around laughable. Simply put, he utterly crucified what was supposed to be a complex, complicated character. In all fairness, though, it's not his fault; he was simply put in a terrible production that didn't really care about the nuances of the film. Joshua Seth did a far better job in my opinion.

I will say that he did pretty good as Auric Goldfinger from the clip I heard, but that's because he's more suited to playing that role.

@JTurner Ever hear the expression if you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all? What do you accomplish by bashing the performance of an actor on his own page? Even when you claim "it's not his fault" and he's still "a good voice actor", you're still heavily criticizing one of his performances, asserting that another actor did better than him, and making unsourced claims about the production he was involved in.

I didn't like Joshua Seth as Tetsuo and I thought Jan Rabson did a far better job, but I'm not going to go to Seth's page and leave a comment criticizing his performance. It's uncalled for, I gain nothing from it, and I run the risk of upsetting the people who did like his performance, which will lead to pointless and drawn-out arguments that boil down to a simple difference of opinion.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I don't see the point of leaving negative comments about certain voice actors on a website that's meant to be celebrating and respecting them. You can show your support for the voice actors you're a fan of without going after the ones who have performances you don't like.

@gsbr Yeah, between this and Carl Macek's page, he seems to have that habit of going out of his way to post his distaste for their work. Not sure if he means to, but it often feels like he's trying to pass his opinion off as fact, which makes him come across as pretty hypocritical when he's complaining about dub haters, yet ranting about how awful he finds the old dubs of various anime.

That, and him constantly repeating his opinion on various voice compares, responding to everyone who slightly disagrees with him and in some cases making new posts reasserting his opinion as if to drown them out really makes it seem like he's trying to shove his opinions down other people's throats. I thought PsychicVoiceSpy's comments towards him in Sheeta's comparison back in 2013 might have knocked some sense into him, but if you look at the Nadia compare for example, he's still doing it to this day. I get being passionate about a dub, really, I do, but parroting your opinion like that constantly gets annoying fast and really makes him come across like he's not even bothering to listen to what other people have to say. It's really close minded.

But you know, thanks to him constantly repeating the same opinions for years both on and off this site, I've pretty much long since learned to tune him out and stop caring since at the end of the day his opinion doesn't really affect mine. I'll still love both dubs of Akira, I'm still interested to hear the Streamline dub of Nadia in full, and I'll always love Jeff Winkless' performances no matter what anyone says.

Although speaking of which, what's also annoying is that I can't even look for VHS's of Streamline's Nadia dub online without running into his reviews, where he surprise surprise, parrots every opinion he's said and responded to others with on these comparisons.

Sorry for the rant, this has just been on my mind for a long time and it's always bugged me, felt like something had to be said.

@Metabad Hey, no problem. I understand where you're coming from. People who have already stated their opinion don't need to reiterate it because they've already established where they're coming from. And while there can be value in debate, there's not a lot to be gained from starting disagreements in the voice comparison pages because people's choices come down to personal opinion. Nobody is going to change their mind about the voice they prefer just because someone tells them that they disagree.

Leaving critical comments on voice compares is one thing because that's about an actor's performance, but being negative on an actor's page is what I really take issue with. Like I said, this website is meant to celebrate and respect actors who don't get enough credit because they don't appear on camera. This is supposed to be a place for positivity and support of your favorite actors. There is no value in criticizing an actor on his own page, especially when there are plenty of actors who could be receiving praise they don't always get.

Happy Birthday Jan Rabson!

It's pretty cool that he's been able to work between LA and Vancouver a lot over the years, he's shown some pretty good range on MLP FiM as Mulia Mild and Wind Rider.
