If I had to pick a replacement for the late Ernest Borgnine as Mermaid Man, it would be him.

I really liked his VERY understated performance in 'Freakazoid', and also I liked his Kringle in 'Regular Show' and as J. Jonah Jameson in the 90s 'Spider Man' cartoon.

Happy Birthday Ed Asner!!

I enjoyed his incredible voice performance as Carl Fredricksen in Disney/Pixar's Up, as he put in a lot of heartfelt emotion in the film that made me like him and the movie as a whole.

In addition I also enjoyed his performance as Santa Claus from the movie Elf.

So Happy Birthday Mr. Asner. :)

Happy Birthday Ed Asner!

One of my all-time favourite actors who has dabbled in both voice acting and in live-action. He is absolutely perfect as the grumpy old man with a heart of gold.

My favourite role of his has to be Carl Fredricksen in Up, playing a more solemn widow just trying to make one of his dreams come true before his time is up. I truly can't think of an another VA who could have pulled off Carl the way Ed did, I thought he was perfect, it's one of the many reasons I consider Up to be in my top five favourite Pixar films.

A close runner up for second place would be when he plays Santa Claus specifically in Elf. It's one of his more jollier and friendlier roles of his, which makes sense since he's Santa Claus. It was an excellent change of pace for him and I really liked that he was the only actor from the movie to reprise his role in the Buddy's Musical Christmas special. It's also not hard to see why they seem to cast him as Santa in so many other Christmas specials because he's fantastic in the role.

My mom was a huge fan of The Mary Tyler Moore Show so I gotta give a shout out to when he played Lou Grant.

I also loved his performances as Hudson, Sergeant Cosgrove, J. Jonah Jameson, Uncle Ben, Granny Goodness, Perry White, Roland Daggett, Hephaestus, Kent Nelson, Thadeus T. Third V and his guest appearance on Criminal Minds last season where he played Hotchner's father in law who is suffering from Alzheimer's, at the end of the episode he gives a really fantastic performance that really stood out to me.

When I was editing his Granny Goodness clip from "Superman/Batman: Apocalypse", all I could think was IF THERE'S EVER A TIME WHEN THEY NEED A JOKER THAT'S 75+ YEARS OLD, THEY BETTER CAST ED ASNER.

His voice had a surprising range for an 81 year old. The laugh was great and his voice could hit the lows and highs.

He's the only man I know of who's started in one of the best and one of the worst, animated movies of all time.

He's been four different Santas. Three in animation and 1 in live action (Elf).

@Dogman15 I see 5 different Santas though one is because he reprised the role in the animated musical of Elf, released last year. Another may have been added since then too. Keep in mind one is named St. Nick instead of Santa.
