Christine Cavanaugh

Christine Cavanaugh

Date Of Birth: Aug 16, 1963
Birth Place: Utah, United States
Date Of Death: Dec 22, 2014
Voice Over Language: English

Popularity: 162nd All Time, 400th This Week. *

Trivia & Fun Facts:

Retired from voice acting in 2001 in order to focus on her family.

Sometimes Credited As: Christina Cavanaugh

Credits her friendship with an animator with leading her into voice over work.

Was originally denied the opportunity to audition as "Babe" when the producers wanted to cast a real child actor. Cavanaugh auditioned anyway, but did not give her age or gender, and won the part.

Was quietly replaced in "Babe 2: Pig in the City" when she held out for a higher salary. Cavanaugh was, however, still supportive of Elizabeth Daily in the role.

"I like animation art - the drawings. And there are a lot of people inside of me. With voice-overs, I get to be different people."

(On voicing Chucky) "He's easy to do, because he's like me. Chuckie and I worry about things, and there's a lot to be worried about." "He's a nerdy sidekick. Yeah, he's Tommy's best friend. You know, everybody feels for the kid who's scared or the kid who's kind of the put-down kid. Everybody relates to that. We've all experienced it. And it always gives him someplace to go, because you know he's going to overcome it in some way. You're rooting for him." "He usually bucks up because Tommy needs it or one of the other characters needs it. He doesn't do it intentionally on his own for his own sake."

Other Professions:

- On-camera actress (notably appeared on an episode of X-Files)

Happy Birthday and RIP Christine Cavanaugh!

She DOMINATED the 90's with so many great characters and voices including Dexter, Chuckie Finster, Gosalyn Mallard and Babe. Its a shame she never came back to voice acting after her retirement and before her death. She is without a doubt missed by many.

Christine was a legend in the voiceover industry. She had one of the most unique voices of all time, and she had an incredible range. Watch Dexter's Lab: Ego Trip for an excellent example of her versatility. She was a hell of an actress too. Her appearance on the X-Files was really intense and emotional. May she RIP.

I was completely devastated when I heard about the news of her passing. I absolutely adored her role as Chuckie Finster and Dexter. It is a real shame that a talented voice actor was taken from us at such a young age. Thank you, Christine Cavanaugh, for making my childhood so awesome. May she rest in peace...

It is like a part of me is missing, but it is best not to grieve the loss, but instead celebrate the cherished childhood memories miss Cavanaugh provided us, thank you for providing the voice of so many great characters we all know and love.

May the Angles Sing thee to thy rest.

I only just found out today. Needless to say I'm shocked at what I see. Thank goodness the year is nearly over because there's been too many celebrity deaths.

I was never a fan of Rugrats though I would watch it from time 2 time when nothing else was on and I saw the movie. But I used to watch Dexter's Laboratory and I loved the movie Babe.

Though I haven't seen them in a, I remember her voice from all 3 and she was really good.

RIP Christine, you will be missed.

@HienFan No offence or anything but I don't think this is the best place to post that. Mainly because Christine sadly passed away and bringing up more tragic events only makes things even more depressing.

While I do agree that there have been too many tragic deaths for normal people as well. I think it would have been better if you sent it to me in the forums. Just some advice for next time.

@OmeedMirVA Their deaths are both equally tragic. Some deaths might hit us harder on an emotional level, but a life lost is a life lost. The way you worded that was a bit insensitive, IMO.

Chuckie was always my favourite Rugrat, and finding out she was Bunnie and Dexter was a pleasant surprise too. Christine Cavanaugh was one of the first VAs I became aware of when I first started paying attention to voice actors. Her work in Rugrats in Paris is probably my favourite--she really helped to make that movie memorable and I'm glad she was able to get the spotlight in it before she retired a year later.

RIP. She left a pretty impressive mark on the industry when she was around. Much respect.

This is a very depressing blow to the industry, RIP Christine. She was a very underrated talent who played characters like Dexter, Oblina, Chuckie Finster and so many other characters with such life.

It's a shame she went quiet around the 2000's and only now news resurfaces only to find out she has past away.
said at 9:02 AM on Tue Dec 30 2014
@Skullgrin140 Indeed and unlike folks such as the late Buster Jones she wasn't even all that old as she died at the age of 51. Man 2014 has been a year of deaths huh?

Anyways R.I.P Christine, some of us hoped that you would get out of retirement but sadly that is no longer a possibility.
said at 9:37 AM on Tue Dec 30 2014
@Pokejedservo Christine should have deserved a comeback or something, her quality of voice acting is something you don't see that much these days. It's a shame though she is now taken from us.
said at 6:16 PM on Tue Dec 30 2014
@Pokejedservo Yeah, in that regard, 2014's basically been 2009 on steroids. I'm almost surprised there hasn't been a South Park episode called "Dead Celebrities 2".

Happy Birthday Christine! I have to agree with everyone else that it freaking sucks that she's not voice-acting nowadays. I've been watching Dexter's Lab on Netflix lately and she's brilliant and hilarious. She's also very creepy as Oblina.

The world of voice-acting would benefit greatly if she returned.

Had no idea she left VAing! I hope she comes back soon! If she left 11 years ago, I guess her child should be about 11 or 12 now if they were a baby when she left, isn't that enough time?
said at 7:30 PM on Thu Aug 16 2012
@JayGirl10 We really don't know the exact reason why she retired, other than for "personal reasons" (there are many rumors ranging from "motherly leave" to her falling ill. Some people think she just lost interest in show business), but there were probably many factors contributing to her abrupt retirement. However, I don't think we've seen/heard the last of her.
